Family Guy is a poorly paced, reference addicted pile of dreck with no warmth or character development. While its good for a laugh or two it isn't nearly as good as The Simpsons was and still as. As far as I'm concerned Family Guy had about 2 years of quality to The Simpsons, what, a decade? It isn't even close to being the best joke driven sitcom on FOX, that would have to be Married...With Children. You think I'm on crack now but watch it and see. Friggin' slays. I can actually empathize with the characters in that show, unlike Family Guy. And that show doesn't insult my intelligence by thinking that flashbacks and shout outs to the "Where's the Beef" grandma are inherently funny.

Married With Children is one of my favorite shows, family guy won't last as long as the simpsons but thats okay I don't think a sitcom should continue after its humour has become stale I personally think thats what happened to the simpsons.

Well, The Simpsons is easily my favourite show. Easily.
I'm one of the biggest fans of this show in the world.

I own the first 8 season DVDs, 5 "classic" DVDs, and a Simpsons mobile phone.
And to top it off, I spend most of my free time on a Simpsons forum!

The first two seasons are excellent, but in a different way. They relied more on emotion, than humour. And that works for me.

Season 3-7 are easily the best seasons in the show's run. They are often called the "prime" or "classic" seasons. And they are, they are truly brilliant.

Seasons 8 to 10 are...mediocre at best. While I often get a kick out of at least 3 episodes from these seasons, they are just written and executed so poorly. Many people believe the show's decline was due to the Show-Runner, Mike Scully.

Season 11 & 12. If you ask any good Simpsons fan, "What is truly the worst season ever?", depending on how good a fan they are, they will most likely reply, "Season 11".

Season 11 is often considered the worst, due to it's near-unbelievable plots (The Simpsons learning country slang after running away from all their problems when they killed an "important" alligator, by running it over in a speed-boat), weak (dead) humour (watch any episode for proof), and complete disregard for the characters' characteristics (Marge getting mad and paranoid about a minor character's girlfriend "stealing" her family from her. The episode climaxes with Homer blowing a dart into Marge's neck).

Another example, The beloved character, and wife of Ned Flanders, Maude Flanders was killed by having "t-shirts" fired at her by cheerleaders out of shoulder cannons, resulting in her being knocked from the bleachers to the ground.

I don't know what's more sickening; the fact that they disposed of her character so poorly, or the fact that during her funeral, her coffin was covered in stickers and logos, and ended with the cheerleaders firing a "t-shirt salute". It was in that moment where I realised: My god; The Simpsons has died.

I like the simpsons, and the classics the best, but I am sick of the repeatedness, but you cannot realy blame them on that.
That, and living in australia without foxtell means I see the episodes faaar behind everyone else.

skillyaslig 10-03-2007 04:29 PM

I enjoy watching the simpsons, I'm not crazy about them or anything, but I'll watch them if theres nothin' else on.

mudling 10-03-2007 08:44 PM

Yeah me too, and most week nights at 6 it's an excuse to not do hw, or relax after training.
In the test I got marge then lisa, damn, must be doing it wrong.

Jordan 10-04-2007 01:11 AM

I used to watch it like mad. But since there isn't a Sky channel on Virgin TV (Duh.) I can't watch it as much.

Havoc 10-04-2007 02:59 AM

The Simpsons is getting old real fast. After 12 seasons you can't expect a show like that to be original anymore and they aren't.

Rupture Farms 10-04-2007 03:44 AM

Yeah. Many people (including me) blame the show's decline on Mike Scully, but after 11 seasons...it's inevitable; but still, Mike did play a huge part in ruining this show.

Oh yeah, and my favourite Simpsons episode is "Marge Be Not Proud". You know, the one where Bart shoplifts.. :D

AlienMagi 10-06-2007 02:12 PM

Very enjoyable show.My favourite show is 'Marge gamer'.

Rupture Farms 10-06-2007 10:03 PM

I just took the "Which Simpsons Character are you?" test.
First time through, I was Bart. Now, I'm Comic Book Guy! :fuzcool:

Wolfpac 10-06-2007 10:32 PM

While I agree that The Simpsons isn't as good as it once was, I still try to watch it every week. It is still an enjoyable show. And as long as I'm enjoying it, I will continue to watch it

Apparently I'm Dr. Hibbert.

Strike Witch 10-07-2007 03:06 PM

Nothing to laugh about there.

(I was going to emulate his laugh, but I just can't do it.)
