The Wii may seem a bit out of context, but it certainly will be more innovative than the other two consoles. What's good with the Wii is we are finally seeing the classic series' like Mario and Zelda being taken to an extraordinary level. Sure the controller may be whack, but it's innovative.

The PS3 just basically seems like the PS2 only about 20% nicer.

Statikk HDM 09-02-2006 05:26 PM

Its just innovation for the sake of innovation, just like those proprietary discs they had. How did those go over again? Oh yeah, they were widely mocked and hated.
My thinking is if it ain't broke why fix it? The handheld controller has been used for nearly 2 decades with great success. I don't want to have to learn a whole new system to play it. And could the name be any more idiotic? It sounds like a friggin' sybian controller for crying out loud. Wee!
Way to damn yourself to irrelevancy when the PS3 launches with further goofy hardware, Nintendo. This will go over like a turd in a punchbowl in America.

Nate 09-02-2006 07:10 PM

People said exactly the same thing about the DS' touch screen. And what happened? There are now loads of kick-arse games that could not have been created for any other console. And developers are only just scratching the surface of the possibilities.

EDIT: Oh, and this.

It's not just innovation for the sake of innovation. It's noticing that the games industry is groaning under the weight of its own stagnation. Name five truly original games that have come out in the last year. I don't think you can. Now try this again in another year and I guarantee that at least four of the five will have been on the Wii.

Statikk HDM 09-02-2006 07:18 PM

The touch screen, in my experience and the experience of others, has been a nuisance and I'd wager that the touch and split screens have hurt as many games as they have helped.
What's Nintendo's flagship game going to be? Something totally original, right? Nope, its a game in the Rayman franchise, a platformer that came out over a decade ago. And some games with Nintendo stalwarts like Mario, Samus, Link, and D.K. and the gang. How the bloody hell is that original? Nintendo has been putting out retreads of games well over 10 years old ever since the N64.
Boring.

Luskan 09-05-2006 08:07 AM

red steel and many others are new. And to be fair i'd much rather play non original games on the new wii controler than on the same old ps3 controller with there non original games.

Bah. Today I read in the newspaper that Blu-ray is gonna be the standard in recording. So the PS3 has a stonger position now...

Not yet, not for a year maybe. there are problems with ps3 cells from what I hear. Chances are theyll be delaying shipments. I still dont see a point in blu ray, it gives you 50GB to use and games barely work on 2Gb ones. there isnt a console (ps3 included) on the planet that could run that surely?.

Abeguy 09-05-2006 02:22 PM

well, the DS did outsell the PSP, twice, in Japan. Both the DS and the DS lite outsold the PSP...and Nintendo has sold more DS' worldwide than the PSP.

Wii is gonna rock, it has the web browser, the free online gaming. oh, and if you guys didn't know, that weird thing on front, by the DVD slot, is where you put the SD card.

OANST 09-06-2006 09:57 AM

what's an sd card?

Mojo 09-06-2006 10:21 AM

SD cards are like little storage cards. Like a Flash USB stick. SD cards can be put in various apparatuses, like digital cameras, printers, and so on.

Anyways, Blu Ray is probably also gonna be used for Films, replacing the DVD. They can be filled with the film, along with commentaries, and different angles in a film.

Abeguy 09-07-2006 03:29 PM

ooh, and since there is a USB port, you can hook up external hardrives, and those get pretty big

Statikk HDM 09-08-2006 01:11 PM

Abeguy, the PSP has two million less sales than the DS(about 22 to 20 million), hardly crushing figures considering that it has a more international presence and it is preferred over the DS in America.
I want to talk consoles, not hand held gaming.
Lets look at some console war figures from a heavily footmarked and referenced Wikipedia article, shall we?
Playstation vs. Nintendo 64: 102 million vs 32 million shipped. The Nintendo 64 did not dominate, or even compete in the Japanese market, it got outsold by a ratio of nearly 5-1 by the Playstation, 2-1 in America, and nearly 7-1 in Europe and other areas.
The PS2 outsold the Gamecube by over 5-1 and the Gamecube only has 10 million sales more than the Dreamcast, a failed system that has not been produced for nearly 2 years.
I can't people have the balls to say that PS3 will bomb, after its been kicking Nintendo's ass at its own game for well over 10 years. I'd bet good money that the PS3 will outsell the Revolution by at least 2-1.

Abeguy 09-09-2006 07:22 AM

now now Statikk, it's called the wii, get used to it.
and as long as were talking Console stats, the GameCube is outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan.

The reason Sony has out done Nintendo all this time is because, out of similar gameplay (hold controller with 2 hands, press buttons) it had better ways to push those buttons.
Since the Wii has drastically different gameplay, it's kinda hard to compare the two. But over all, Game-play and price, I predict it'l be a good 5-6 years for Nintendo. With franchises like Splinter Cell, and everything else Ubisoft can dish out. And Nintendo originals like Brawl, Super Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Excite Truck, well, I'd like to see PS3 do the same with Jak and Rachet (Rachet has been confirmed). But to actually compare the two as which one is better, it's like trying to compare...water and oil. They don't mix well.
But in overall sales. With stuff like that, PS3 will be lucky if they ship out on the day they planned. It's already been delayed in Europe till March. and sony has revealed that the number of units hitting US and Japan at launch has been slashed by 75% from initial figures. which means that we can currently expect that around 400,000 PlayStation 3s will be available for the console's US launch on November 17 while approximately 100,000 units will ship on the Japanese launch day of November 11. *bomb falling noise, followed by boom*
So not only will you be the first in your town to own one, you'll be the only one too.

Luskan 09-09-2006 08:12 AM

also theres a lot of people out there who can't affort that bloody ps3. Plus how much the games will cost to. I allready know many poeple who are taking a liking to the wii.

Statikk HDM 09-09-2006 10:55 AM

Insanity:Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. See Nintendo.

Whatever. Nintendo fanboys are all the same. Even when you present facts to them saying that they've been dead last in console sales and console game sales for at least 10 years they've always got a reason why their shit won't stink again, why it'll be different this time. They were wrong then, and they're wrong now.
Not only will the PS3 outsell them, the 360 will outsell them by quite a large margin, too. When the Uprising/Porpoise spits in the face of convention 5 years from now the fanboys will rush to defend that fruity piece of shit, too.

Daxter King 09-09-2006 02:03 PM

Statikk, hate to break it to you, but sales aren't everything.Oh and saying the PS3 is is gonna outsell the Wii is pure and utter BullShit. Look at poles in Magazines and gamesites, most of the time the Wii has over 70% of the votes, with PS3 coming in dead last. The fact is I dont think Sony has enough fanboys with that much of an income to make the PS3 float.

metroixer 09-09-2006 02:19 PM

Stattik is trying to win a losing battle :p.

Honestly I Daxter is right. Sales mean nothing. I'm not saying it would be good for nintendo if they do horrible in selling. It's just every time I told people of the wii's power I always get the same remark: "Awesome" :p

Abeguy 09-09-2006 03:05 PM

500,000 PS3 units being shipped to US and Japan vs. Nintendo's 6,000,000 worldwide... It's kinda hard to outsell 6 mil with only 500 grand.

Daxter King 09-09-2006 05:03 PM

You no Daxter, I Daxter......

I got the same result, also Abe Guy, I though it was 400,000 hitting the US.

Abeguy 09-09-2006 09:33 PM

yeah, and 100,000 hitting Japan

400,000+100,000=500,000

Statikk HDM 09-09-2006 10:05 PM

More PS3s will ship and it will me more attractive as the price goes down and the library gets deeper. Put your pride on the line. This time, 2 years from now, if the PS3 has performed better than the Wii any naysayers have to put this in their sig line
"Statikk and Sony pwn me like cattle". I'll put the names of any takers in my sig line, like "Nintendo and persons X, Y, Z etc. pwn me like cattle." Any takers? Sales mean nothing? Sales mean EVERYTHING for a corporation trying to make money. Sales mean that the games can be continued to be made for the system. Sales lead to profits, which lead to reinvestment of the profits for new consoles.
One more thing: The 360 has already sold to consumers more units than the Revolution's shipping to the whole world by the end of the year. Damn, thats a numerical bitchslapping if there ever was one.
Addendum: I'm not a hater of Nintendo's games, I'm just a hater on their idiotic business practices, shitty controllers, and lack of 3rd party support.

Nate 09-10-2006 02:43 AM

Yes, Sales = everything. But Nintendo needs far less sales (of consoles and games) than Sony does, because they lose less per console. So some sales > other sales.

Abeguy 09-10-2006 07:40 AM

:

lack of 3rd party support.
...you...you...*Burst into laughter*
you gotta be kidding me. Have you even seen the third party support for the wii...

*ahem*

Ubisoft has 8 games in the Wii's launch line up, including Splinter Cell: DA
Activision has Call of Duty 3, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, And Tony Hawk
Square Enix has Dragon Quest Swords, and FF crystal Chronicles 2
THQ has Avatar, Spongebob, and Cars
Midway has Blitz: the League, The Ant Bully, and The Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy
EA has Godfather, Need for Speed, and Madden 07
Konami has Elebits, and possibilities of a Metal Gear on the wii
The list goes on...Third party developers have already said that they are fully intrested in the wii

5 similar games between the PS3 and Wii's launch line-up, but the Wii has more games...in the launch line-up

OANST 09-10-2006 02:13 PM

I think this argument is moot. Nintendo is going for a different audience than the ps3. Nintendo is going to be far more popular with the casual gamer while ps3 will do well with hardcore gamers. For myself, I have seen nothing about the ps3 that would make me want to buy it, while my palms keep sweating at the thought of playing the Wii. I'm not anybody's fanboy. The Wii just looks like it's providing a hell of a lot of fun.

Abeguy 09-10-2006 03:25 PM

for once, oanst, I agree with you

OANST 09-10-2006 05:14 PM

Whoops. I change my position. Fuck the Wii.

Abeguy 09-10-2006 07:07 PM

:p haha, yur fuhny.

Ah well, still can't wait for it to come out

Luskan 09-11-2006 12:27 PM

does anyone know how much the games will be for it?

Abeguy 09-11-2006 01:51 PM

not as much as the games for the PS3 and Xbox 360, that's for sure
since they don't cost as much to make

Bonedust 09-11-2006 02:07 PM

How much will the PS3's games cost
The Xbox360's cost $50-$60 dollars?
Im expecting the Wii to be about $40-$50.
