What? I want to keep my post count. Why can we just monitor the new posts, like a boz that says, "shop posts," or something and then keep the post sopunt we have now too?

Al the Vykker 09-25-2005 03:57 PM

Couldnt we just hide the post count like we did a few years back, where it simply kept it for that person to know in their profile but not shown when they posted?

You'll keep your postcount dipshit, I mean you won't start out with any money, you'll have to earn it from the moment the shop hack is installed.

Postcount and moneycount are seperate. You don't "spend" your postcount on things.

I think the currency should be moolah, afterall, this is a forum dedicated to Oddworld. And perhaps make more Oddworld and shop related things for Oddworld fans to spend money on in General Discussion.

Salamander 09-25-2005 06:24 PM

man if we did start out with money we would have had, xaiver would be soooooooooo rich, he has 11,000 posts

Smell 09-26-2005 09:07 AM

Uh, I don't mean to be weird but what's all this "shop" thing that you guys are talking about?

Nate 09-26-2005 10:33 AM

Great idea! Moolah, yes, I like that. Hehe. :D

Munch's Master 09-26-2005 12:29 PM

So would we go to zero posts on the shop hack postcount or overall postcount? And if the latter, then what happens to our old posts, do they get deleted?

T-nex 09-26-2005 12:56 PM

When the shop hack gets installed, the post-counts wont get changed, but there'll be another static, showing how much money you have. You get money per post or per good rating i guess. Read the previous posts for mor info :P

AquaticAmbi 09-26-2005 02:07 PM

Okay, so how long is this poll/thread going to be open? There needs to be a set date for final votes, so we can get things moving.

And how many votes should a suggestion have to be implemented? I say we should do whatever the top 3 are or something.

SeaRex 09-26-2005 04:41 PM

Good point, Ambi. I'll close the poll on Friday.

I have a few concerns about the two selections that are in the lead, and I'll be sure to make these concerns public if the selections are still in the lead by Friday (which they probably will, meh).

Dino 09-26-2005 04:46 PM

You know guys, it would help if you like, VOTED for shop hack. You know, in that poll? The one up top? Yeah, that's the one.

Cause right now there's only 6 votes so at the moment it doesn't look like it's going to be implemented.

The name is probably confusing to a lot of members... heck, I didn't know what the Hell it was until I read the description in someone's post.

Dino 09-26-2005 04:53 PM

Hmm, yes, and I don't think everyone was aware that the poll was multiple choice either.

I think we might have to have a repoll, and this time make everything clear in the first post.

SeaRex 09-26-2005 05:07 PM

I wouldn't worry about a repoll. The way things are shaping up, Shop Hack and Front Page are looking like the most feasible options, to me at least. The poll isn't set in stone or anything; we're just getting a general idea of what people want.

Shrink 09-27-2005 08:21 AM

I only voted for one thing. I wasn't expected being able to choose mutiple options. This is most irregular.

SeaRex 09-27-2005 08:50 AM

I can always edit votes in as long as I don't have a bunch of people wanting to change their responses.

I'd much rather just edit in votes instead of doing a repoll.

Smell 09-27-2005 09:38 AM

Oh, I've read through and I think I get the idea of it now. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Joshy 09-29-2005 08:47 PM

Make an 18+ section.

It's called 'Employee Lounge'.

Nate 09-29-2005 09:56 PM

...Then why is Alcar let in and not me?:fuzwink:

P'raps this is a good idea. We should establish a place where only those who prove their worth can get in and all else will not even know of its existence. Or not.

SeaRex 09-30-2005 04:30 AM

The poll is now closed. I'll weigh in my opinions on the results later on.

You know, a long, long time ago, perhaps when the TGA crew was still here, the forum kicked around the idea of a place for "elite" members. Ultimately, the notion was dismissed for various reasons. For one, it would end up being more trouble than it's worth when the wheat is separated from the chaff, as different members had/have different opinions on who is worthy of such a forum. Another good argument against it is that an elitist forum just seems... snobby and mean. Other members would end up feeling left out; we would begin to lose forum participation, in all likelihood. Above all, exactly what "mature" conversations could we have in another forum that we couldn't have in OT? Most younger members shy away from the "hardercore" debates.

Besides, who wants to be serious all the time? I'm 18. One of the main reasons I still visit OWF is because I can be a completely immature and silly every now and then and make an ass out of myself in front of people from all over the world.

That's the beauty of forum-based discussion. :p

used:) 09-30-2005 01:18 PM

Well, about the hack, besides giving them Custom titles andstar changes, why don't give them stuff that would be kewl? Like privelges to the Mod Forum (considered they don't leak out info ;)).

Hobo 09-30-2005 01:26 PM

Not the mod forum. Maybe a 1337 forum for unoobs.

Shut up, that's why!

So with the results now in, after thinking of what to do, are actions going to be taken or are we just going to 'hearty chuckle' this thread away?

Dino 10-01-2005 10:13 AM

Super Munch, if I may say so, and much as I love you, you're being a bit of a twat. So stop it. Contribute something other than mere jokes please, it's getting a bit annoying.

Also, the employee lounge is for employees, not for people with massive IQs or "worthy" "elite" members. Nor will there ever be such a place. And I know Hobo will chip in with his "I > you" gimmick, but I emplore him not to, because I'm making a serious point here.

SeaRex is right, elitism does nothing but piss people off. I've been to forums where elitism has been taken to the extreme, and most of the people there have just LOST themselves in it. They have all these stupid arguments, "worthy" "respected" members ganging up like a pack of chavs and lynching people who dare to challenge their authoritaw.

HOWEVER - many of the forums that I have visited who've had a "serious discussion" area for heady debates about life, the universe, and everything, have done really well with it. And I think we could do with something like that. Mainly because all our serious discussions (or at least most of them) tend to go off topic quickly, because the whole thing isn't taken seriously enough. If we had a place where the rules were much stricter, we could hold serious and lengthy debates in an malicious-argument free way (outlaw flaming/character attacks) without risk of jokers taking it off topic and ruining things for everyone else.

Nate 10-01-2005 11:35 AM

Shut up, that's why!

Damnable. I always forget to put a smiley in to show I'm not being serious.

Fixed.

SeaRex 10-02-2005 06:17 PM

Ah, forgive the lateness of my reply. I was away from the computer for the weekend.

Now, as for the implementation of the "winners."

I have no opinion either way on "forum events and contests." These don't interest me at all. If someone out there has any bright ideas on events/contests, then by all means, step up to the plate and we'll talk. But as of right now, I really couldn't care less if we had more contests and such.

A fan game, on the other hand, is much more appealing to me. However, we would have to have an extremely dedicated and *gasp* skilled group of people for art and programing. No joke. However, if you are interested in spearheading, or just participating in, a project like a fan game (flash, full game build, anything), then just make your voice heard by posting in this thread. You have my full support.

I'll be honest. I'm not web-savvy. If someone wants to pursue the OWF Front Page or Shop Hack, then you would be better off collaborating with Alcar. Still, you may want to let everyone know about your interests in this thread.

This is your forum, folks. Make it rock some socks off.
