Alcar has already agreed to it. Bring it on!

Leto 07-03-2005 12:19 AM

Sweet. Now if Alcar would just come on...

We need some Alcar bait... Hobo?

Dino 07-03-2005 01:14 AM

I can see a ton of people on here with great potential to be moderators.

Who, exactly? I can only think of a couple people who I could bear to put up with as mod.

Huh? What? What did I agree to? I'm lost :'(

Mod elections, Alcar, try to think straight.

Oddish I don't really think that you're in any position to comment on anything relating to this guy. You're so damn naive it's a wonder that you ever notice anything at all, let alone the fact that you're playing right into this guy's hands.

I just... can't believe how everyone is missing the obvious. If this guy really is 9 years old, how do you think he manages to type better than stingbee? And how do you think he managed to find this thread in the FS&H forum, when he made a ton of posts in OT that should've been in FS&H? It's such an unlikely coincidence.

This guy is a troll who has deliberately falsified his birthdate to give himself a license to act like a moron and piss everyone off but not get banned for it. OWF is one big soft touch that trolls are just taking advantage of.

1) Stingbee's a retard.
2) Yeah, ban the infant. OWF is no place for babies.

Truthfully, neither of the pair know punctuation or spelling, and it pisses me off. I think both of them should be banned. And that little *unleashes inner bitch* shit Snoozer and his irritating posts on absolute crap.

Dino 07-03-2005 03:57 AM

:/

Soulstice that was a little harsh... correction, very harsh. These kids are annoying, yes, and I know I've had a right old go at them in the past, but look at it this way; if you were on oddworld forums when you were 9 or 10 years old, you'd probably have been equally annoying, if not then more so.

Agh, I really think me going out on a crusade against these people with this thread was a bad idea. Just dealing with it in the usual way, like closing their silly threads, encouraging them to read the rules, and doing so calmly, has a much more desireable long term effect - I could be accused of being equally as annoying as some of these newbies at certain points in my membership here, but if it wasn't for the tolerance and patience of these people here, then I would've been banned. What's not to say that these people won't grow up to be decent, respectable, well spelled members of our forum here? It's happened to me before when I ran a forum, and it's probably happened here too.

I agree that we shouldn't hesitate to ban if the user earns it - we shouldn't be more lenient just because they're young. They're never going to learn to behave if they get leniency. But that doesn't mean that my earlier posts are justified, or that we should all have an uprising. They're annoying, stupid, closely resemble retards, but just remember that's how you were once, so have a chuckle, humour them a bit, remind them of the rules and just keep it fair and above the belt. K?

Rich 07-03-2005 04:03 AM

My God! This coming from Dino, the king of dumbass beating?

You really have changed your ways, I can see you becoming more liked around here. Even though I've always thought you were cool.

I still think we should thrash people, but in the style of Dippstikk and Super Munch.

Fuzzle Guy 07-03-2005 06:23 AM

I haven't been on the forums lately (Busy with latest film) and I was wondering, is this guy anpther Sting Bee, or worse?

:

1) Stingbee's a retard.

Actually Soulstice, he is older thatn me, I don't annoy everyone on the forums, so in reply to Dino's post, that counts for everyone exept for StingBee.

What does age have to do with it?

Anyway, I'd be a mod, but I don't think I quite have the reputation. Meh. Maybe in a few months. YayZ! :D

Fuzzle Guy 07-03-2005 07:35 AM

They were saying around the age of 9-10, yet Sting Bee was 13 as year odler than me

I see what you mean, but multiple warnings from a lot of members hasn't rubbed off or changed anything. I know you see that too.

About the harsh thing, I'm a harsh person. Also, I could use correct punctuation and spelling when I was 6, possible even younger. To me, there's no excuse for the stupidity that these young members display. They should also know that the topics they're interested in don't necessarily interest the older members, and so therefore shouldn't post these annoying posts one after the other. Especially after they've seen their threads being closed and after receiving numerous warnings.

P.S. Being harsh is probably the only way to sort these young posters out. 'Above the belt' discipline hasn't had any effect, as we've all seen... They're a source of perpetual aggravation and cause more annoyance than anything else. At the end of the day, they're irritating. I'm not going to bottle my mouth to keep some infants happy, it's not the way I do things.

As harsh as that earlier statement might have been, I do see where you're coming from. It really is frustrating when you tell someone to NOT do something over and over again. :/ He/she should get it the first time, really. :/

Heh, these moments of passion and niceness are on and off at the moment but they're setting in at least. :p

And basically yeah, like I said, humour them a little, have a bit of a laugh at their expense, make them realise that they're making a fool of themselves, there really is no greater motivator.

And Soulstice, sometimes you just have to stick with it. He didn't change his ways straight away but he did eventually. It just requires driving the message home occasionally.

Cyber-Slig 07-03-2005 08:50 AM

Good to see that you're not really a bad guy Dino.

:

I don't annoy everyone on the forums

Funny words, you seemed to love to flame me for no reason, did you not?

AquaticAmbi 07-03-2005 09:28 AM

Well, CS, he did say "everyone" not "anyone"... It's not worth the arguing, anyway, so don't start anything.

I'm guessing no one remembered to nag at Alcar to get on the elections last Friday. Poo.

Yeah, but he has a cool name man, Leto!

Nah, Dino's always been cool... But I like your "tolorant" side :p

:

Also, I could use correct punctuation and spelling when I was 6, possible even younger.
Yup, they all say that, and i could walk on hands when i was three ;).

Anyways, i also think we should be patient about members. These "annoying newbies", could turn out to be very productive members, when they've first settled in with the rules and system...

Dino 07-04-2005 03:33 AM

My dark, evil, humorous side is always going to be in there somewhere though. So before you all get nauseated at the thought of me being "nice", swallow that vomit, cause I'm still me, not a lot has changed except for my occasional assholeishness, which was thrown out of the window for good several days ago.

Welllllllllll... After much discussion in Employee Lounge, there may not be any elections. Rather just a mass Moderator culling, one new Moderator, and a few Super Moderators.

But, I shall ring Abe Babe tonight if I do not overdose on sugar beforehand.

I was somewhat an annoying newbie, posting pointless and stupid threads, posts. I'm not that annoying now, is what i'm saying. Some of the newbies here probably like that, probably...

Rex Tirano 07-05-2005 10:16 AM

I know I was an annoying newbie, and so were many of the valued members. I think that with proper guidance newbies will become good members.

And a super moderator, eh Alcar? *winks* I'll make it worth your while.

*Nods* Although he doesn't seem to be breaking any rules lately that I know of.

Aww, everyone wants to be a mod. [Reverse psychology]Don't make me one![/Reverse psychology] :p

Dino 07-05-2005 03:25 PM

Conker_Rocket being an idiot is fine. He can be an idiot all he wants, just so long as he doesn't break the rules. If he starts winding people up though, I think we may need to just talk to him, remind him to keep it sensible. He IS quite young, very young in fact, so I think him just being a bit of an idiot from time to time is to be expected. If this kid is 9 then he's amazingly intelligent for his age, and he'll be quite an asset to the forums when he grows up. I know it's a bit of a 180 from banning him but hey, who cares, I'll go with whatever's better for OWF.

As for mod elections, I must say that I agree with Alcar. I was starting to get a bit worried that this would turn into a whole big deal of an event and everyone would get themselves all hyped up over it. It doesn't need to be like that, and shouldn't be like that - we simply need 1 new mod, and 1 or 2 new super mods. Also I agree with demodding a few of our current, "less active" moderators. Majic, Disgruntled Intern, Oddguy, etc. We can't have a forum with a bunch of moderators who aren't here for 362 days of the year, and do little to nothing even when they are here.

But, that being said, we still need some kind of process for chosing a new moderator, and since we're in a situation where we REALLY need one quite badly, I think we should perhaps open the ballpark to members who would not normally be considered for modship due to their joindate (IE peeps like Kimon, Ambi .etc). There are some good members here who would make excellent mods but would not normally be considered under the standard mod selection rules, so I think that's worth thinking about if nothing else.

Another thing I'd like to bring up is an idea I had for simplifying and speeding up the elections - a stickied page for all the people running in the mod elections to make themselves and their policies known. Just a short sentence giving the details, nothing lengthy. Might help the indecisive people make a better decision rather than just voting at random, and it would keep all the silly "vote for me" advertising off of the rest of the forums. (cause that always ends up happening)

Also, I'd like to ask how we're going to do the Admin/Super Mod election? Will you be choosing those Alcar or will there be votes for those guys too?

I totally agree. There a lot of younger (in terms of join date) members here who are totally competent and fun. A good example would have been Cort, if he didn't leave. He was a really cool kid for the month or so that he was here. I liked that guy.

This sounds like the revoloution of the OWF, ;)

Because we will not be holding elections for Moderators, the rules associated with the actual nominating do not come into play. We will choose who we think is best suited for the job.

The Super Moderator positions will be decided by Abe Babe and myself.
