Stranger's Wrath.....Fear the wrath of Stranger!!!!lol I'm just kidding. Although I like the first title better, I still respect OI decision to change it. Besides, I'm sure there's a good reason behind it.

Alcar 11-16-2004 04:58 PM

Oh I still believe the previous title was better. But, it appears Oddworld Inhabitants and EA did have valid reasons.

Though some of you should really, really take a look at yourselves. You're becoming to Oddworld what a Fundamentalist is to religion. No one is infalible (except maybe the Pope :p). I'm not going to jump and and down with joy when I see something I don't agree with.

Again, I'll say that as a whole, I like Stranger['s Wrath].

oddguy 11-16-2004 06:58 PM

I see what you're saying, Alcar. At the same time though, people don't need to get so worked up over the title...to a game they haven't even played I might add. I mean, that petition thing was just silly.

-oddguy

*not accusing you of going insane over the title, Alcar. Just throwing my comment at the people who did. They know who they are. ;)

As a designer's stand point of view this whole new look to the Stranger's Wrath logo is actually appropriate. The Dragon design is cool but its not appropriate for a western style game. Infact the type styles in the name looks to me like a Victorian style type. Victorian style type used very bold, sarif, old western style designs in their text, which is a sarif font, which is great for creating those old western wanted posters.

All and all the design decision on the logo was a appropriate design choice to make. Besides its the designers who are making the big bucks not us. They are the professionals and they know whats right.

I've learned sometimes, a lot of times as a designer you can't stick with the original idea or design. There will always be a change wether you like it or not its perfectly normal. But as for the word Wrath, there can be better word choices out there. But they had their reasons and we need to respect that.

The Dragon design is cool but its not appropriate for a western style game.

But Stranger isn't exactly a Western-style game, it just uses that kind of theme during the opening few levels, and uses that setting to create familiar-sounding situations (e.g. the Clakkerz, the Industrialists and the Natives playing the parts of the New World townsfolk, outlaws and Native Americans). Beyond that there's a whole world of non-Western environments, themes, concepts and sub-texts.

Plus I'm still not sure I agree with “wrath“ describing Stranger. “Wrath“ implies being generally mindlessly vengeful and violent, and then where would be the character depth and personality we know Oddworld to have be? The only other two productions I know of that use the word are The Wrath of Khan and The Wrath of Cortex, and in both instances that's exactly what they're doing - being mind-blowingly vengeful and obsessed with destroying their enemy. I should hope Stranger himself has valid reasons for tackling the Industrialists which explore his persona and true nature. I trust OWI entirely to have created just such a character, which is why the name doesn't appeal to me.

The dragon was a reference to his boat. The bow looks like a dragon head. (if someone could post a picture of it, that would be good)

Software Bug 11-22-2004 07:49 AM

im making an 3d model of the spear like it is in the movie's...
we will see if it looks like a dragon:)

Oddish 11-22-2004 11:00 AM

I didn't double post? Aha it was the fusion of the Threads, so seemed that I double posted, but I didn't.

Why dose the boat have a Dragon head? I don't think oddwrold are bieng very original. It's like it came from the Vykkings.

Nate 11-22-2004 01:35 PM

Actually, I quite like the boat design.

Oh and GYHOOYA Oddish. Its virtually impossible to create something 'original' (as you put it). Also referencing a real-world style can add to the style and plot of a game. In any case, I didn't hear you complaining when Feeco was based on Victorian architecture.

Software Bug 11-22-2004 10:03 PM

does somebody know if there will be the option to choose movie's to play which you already had played in-game??
Like MO????

Alcar 11-23-2004 01:25 AM

I'm hoping it will be a cheat, like Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus. Although the freely available option to view movies in Munch's Oddysee wasn't that bad. I guess we'll have to wait and see, as no one (public) knows.

Xavier 11-23-2004 09:08 AM

hmm the "earn" videos was fine, but you couldn't see the ones you didn't earned (bad/good) as you could in the cheat...
so I hope there will be a cheat :p

I think the Feeco design was great, it wasn't very noticble to be earthly, well not for me. The boat look's kinda too obvouse to tell if it's a vykking boat. Oddworld always seemed to hide or cover it up whats from Earth, like the factories and the board room, and trains.

Xavier 11-23-2004 11:23 AM

FeeCo is tipically Art Nouveau... I'm not sure that style is well known in America

Oddworld = Odd World = Odd Earth
our Earth, just a bit odder...

Nate 11-23-2004 01:28 PM

I always thought Feeco was Victorian style but then I'm not an architecture student. I'll have to go check my Art of etc book

Basically what matters here is your own experience within planet earth. Feeco looked very familiar to me but not to you. I'm sure there is someone out there who has never heard of the vikings who thinks Stranger's boat is magnificent.

Esus 11-23-2004 01:50 PM

I love Feeco. Recognised it but loved it.

QCCQG 11-24-2004 05:07 AM

i'm sorry, but i don't understand very well the english. can you said me if stranger will be also for playstation2? thank you very mutch

Xavier 11-24-2004 05:26 AM

It wont come out on PS2
it's Xbox only

Volsung 11-24-2004 12:34 PM

Wrath doesn't seem like an entirely appropriate word, but if OI are the ones making the changes perhaps we don't know how feral Stranger really is. If they needed another phrase to make it seem like the first in the series perhaps they could've been a little more descriptive. Something like: Oddworld: Stranger's justifiable confusion and intense misplaced aggression in lieu of diplomatic solutions. But perhaps that's just TOO catchy.

I liked the original title better, but it did feel like something was missing. The question is--was that missing thing the wrath?

The fourth game, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath will be in stores on January 25, 2005 in the U.S. available for the Xbox. Europe and Australian lauch is in Feb. 2005.
For crying out loud, they could release it at the same time if they wanted to. I know they could.

That is utter crap! There is no Xbox release this time to hold them back with launching the PAL version. And EA have headquarters in Europe and Australia, so distribution isn't something holding them back. And it can't be a language problem, because all the languages have to be finalised for the NTSC version as well!

First the DVD, now an extended release date. What's the excuse now?

I just stumbled on an old video interview with Lorne and Sherry. They're talking about MO, but it sounds like this early idea of shooting they have evolved into Live Ammo. Really interesting.

Oh-yeah, that took 1 second to download.

That was interesting interview(like all OW interviews), OWI sure have great ideas with the ammo.

Odd job oddguy.

I completely agree. OWI also had some interesting ideas for ammo.

Wil 12-08-2004 01:42 PM

I don't remember ever seeing that video clip before, but I have most definitely read an extract from it, regarding the abatoir boss turning into a pig (“Why don't we go get ourselves a fine meal of pork and beans?”) and the vivisectionist becoming a rabbit. I've always considered Live Ammo to be the next weaponry theme after Product Delivery Firearms, though the spiritual weapons never struck me so much before, despite having heard of the Supernatural Spooce Cannon.

I also remember an article in which Lorne talks about the differences between the architecture of Glukkons, Mudokons and Vykkers that would feature in Munch's Oddysee. I've long wanted to rediscover that.
