Yes. I was referring to the statements by Lanning himself quoted on that forum posting I linked to.

Ahhhh! This is the thing I was most dreading... o__O
In the beginning I only bought an Xbox for MO, and now I hear Stranger is coming out on PS2 as well. I want a PS2 for Final Fantasy.... and I have to choose between the two consoles. My parents are idiots.... I can't have both, can I??!!!!!!!! *kicks Xbox* Anyway, I do like my Xbox.... it's just that I really want to play Final Fantasy. It really annoys me that Xbox ONLY has stupid killing games. There are like no RGPs on Xbox. Well enough of my ranting o__O ~Miss Odd P.S Check out Oddworld Online lol :P |

Problem with Xbox is hardly any of it's good/unique games are exclusive. You can get most of those games you listed for PC or some other system as well if you wanted to. Whereas most of the great PS2 and Gamecube games are 100% exclusive.
|
well it is microsoft after all, windows and such. more money for them releasing games for xbox and pc, but i know what u mean. it annoyed me when splinter cell came out for ps2 when it was supposed to be for xbox only
|
Yep. The way Xbox is running things, if you already own a PC, PS2 and/or Gamecube, there's no need to own an Xbox really, because you're pretty much guaranteed most of the big games will be released on another platform at one point or another. And since I already do own all three of those systems, I won't be getting an Xbox anytime soon.

Welll...I'm buying one of them for pretty much the express purpose of having the ability to play stranger. I've got a beefy PC and a gamecube and have been weighing the plusses and minuses of the PS2 and XBOX. The XBOX does seem to suffer from a lack of exclusives, of the main games I've wanted to play on it (Stranger, Advent Rising, Halo, Halo 2, and Knights of the Old Republic), only one is exclusive as I've already got Halo on my PC, but there's lots of games I'd like to play on the PS2. But being an animator myself, I like the pretty graphics...so....the jury is still out. Thankfully there's still enough time before stranger comes out for another price drop...(me hopes:))

Makes sense!! And then you can play Munch's Oddysee also!
Welcome to the forums btw! |
Although there are some RPGs on Xbox, I haven't really found one that is story driven like the FF games are. They seem more like the "hack and slash" kinds of RPGs. Altough I haven't played the Star Wars RPG, as I aren't really into Star Wars.
I prefer to buy games that I aren't sure of for the Xbox cause it's lots cheaper to buy a game from the US for me than to buy it on the PS2 in Australia. Like Fuzzles, I don't like PC games much either. Because you have to "install" them, and if you have a lot of games, you are going to use up your HD space very quickly [especially with me as I have an older computer and only 40 GB of combined HD space]. Like Diablo II is one of few PC games I have installed, and the full/multiplayer install takes up over 1 GB. A console is much easier, you just put the disc in and away you go. And with the Xbox's HD, it makes saving games a breeze. Abe Babe... |

XBOX. There is no denying that ports from the PS2 end up looking better than the original. Just 1 example: The GTA double pack games look hella better than the PS2 games. Plus the headest and Xbox live are bitching not to mention the built in hard drive. Plus, too many good games are coming out for it to not be an auto buy. For instance, the new Mechwarrior and Halo games, Fable, Jade Empire, KOTOR 2. It also has Full Spectrum Warrior which is as fun as any other military-based game I've ever played. Also, Metal Slug. I'm sorry, but I just effing LOVE that series.

Point is though, if you're like me and already own a PC, Gamecube and Playstation 2, what insentive does Microsoft give to buy an Xbox as well if I can get most games on it for a system I already own?

Yes. And look at what a big success Munch's Oddysee was on Xbox.
OWI can blame it on hype all they want. Fact is, the majority of Xbox gamers don't care about Oddworld. Almost all of my friends own Xbox's and I can't convince them for the life of me to give MO a try. Most of the Xbox owners that actually enjoyed MO were the ones that bought an Xbox specifically for it. |

And...OWI made a lot of moolah off MO, because it was a launch title and now it's a platinum hit for zee Xbox.
Face it...Xbox is cooler than PS2! Bwahahaha! IMO... -oddguy  |
Lanning has said himself that he attributes MO's poor sales to the amount of hype that was generated, and then the game's inability to live up to said hype.
However, go check out the poll at http://www.oddworld.au.com Munch Xbox Poll What do you think of Munch´s Oddysee on the Xbox? I love it! (317) 45.94% Don´t have an Xbox (243) 35.22% Good, but could be better (84) 12.17% Dissapointed (35) 5.07% OK (11) 1.59% Total of votes: 690 243 people out of the 690 who have voted don't even own an Xbox. That's 243 extra people who obviously enjoy the oddworld series, as they were visiting an Oddworld fansite, yet didn't play/purchase Munch's Oddysee because they didn't have an Xbox. How can you not believe that poor sales of MO could be attributed to the fact that it was an Xbox exclusive, when so many FANS of Oddworld weren't even able to play it because they don't own an Xbox? :
EDIT: :
PS2 has a headset as well, and a harddrive (even though it costs $100, but it comes with a free game. Even after buying the HDD though, the PS2 is still only a little more expensive than the Xbox). |

exactly......but when the xbox 2 comes out they should make more unique titles.......but i'm gonna buy it either way
|
Xbox 2 is likely going to bomb. They're releasing it next year, which is pissing a bunch of people off because they don't want to have to spend money on yet another console when the Xbox is still in its prime.
They're hoping to make the Xbox the next PS2, since Sony released it early and it completely dominated the market. However, what it's going to be is the next Dreamcast, since it was released TOO early and then all of the other developers released far better machines a few years later. |
Oooh, that poll is really old. I didn't think anyone looked at it anymore and was considering taking it down. Interesting statistics from it though.
I really haven't been able to compare my Xbox and PS2 games, for reasons I said earlier in this post ... which is I only own one title on the two consoles [Silent Hill 2] and that it's hard to compare cause some of the colors get messed when running NTSC consoles through a PAL TV. But Eriken just said that SH2 looks better on the PS2 anyways, so I wouldn't be comparing anything different. :

Yes, Metal Slug games were best as arcade games. I beat the PS version in under an hour because I never had to deposit more credits.

did you see HL2 and DOOM 3 at E3?
