I read the manga and I really enjoyed it but goddamn is it obvious who the killer is. It makes sense still and I'd prefer that over having a silly twist, but man that teacher is suspicious the second he's introduced. Really good though. It has a really sad atmosphere.

Completely agree about the killer (it was more predictable than obvious, he was like the only suspicious guy in the entire series!) and the atmosphere. The story is quite addictive and I liked that. Probably the only anime, flanked by Evangelion, I really liked after long time. I should read the comic really soon.

Everyone needs to know I binge watched Trollhunters and it's always nice to see a pretty average "the chosen one" story executed in a way that keeps you interested the entire way through. I really enjoyed it. The cliffhanger when Jim walked into the dark world after activating the eclipse powers is going to haunt me because I Need To See What Happens Next. How are you going to introduce an upgrade like that and just end the season ;_;

Like yeah, it's pretty overall predictable. It's one of those things where you know the heroes are just gonna win because that's the type of story it is. I'm just really interested on seeing how they win, especially since main/recurring characters can and will die or get seriously injured

The way I've been describing it is it's like what Danny Phantom could have been had it been in better hands.

The new Beauty and the Beast movie is a good remake, very faithful to the original (more so than the Jungle Book remake was) and they nailed pretty much every song and major story beat. A couple of flat deliveries on some moments I like in the original movie, but other than that I very much enjoyed it.

Holy Sock 03-21-2017 08:34 AM

The new season of Samurai Jack is really good so far.

Manco 03-21-2017 10:52 AM

Wait, there’s a new season?

Phoetux 03-21-2017 11:12 AM

Yep, the ads about it were everywhere

Varrok 03-21-2017 11:16 AM

Yes. On Adult Swim.

oblivionkeeper23 03-23-2017 10:15 AM

I just saw the first episode of MP100. I love it so much.
Does anyone have any anime recs?

I've watched the anime Erased some weeks ago. It's short (13 episodes if I remember right) but its worth to watch.

I still need to read the manga yet. Just hoping to find it in my language.
Also me and a dear friend watched Your Name at the cinema when it was out here.
We were crying a "little" loud all the time, from the beginning to the end. When the movie finished, everyone in the hall were like us: crying desperately or firm and traumatized.
I wasn't actually crying because I can't somehow anymore (not joking, even when I feel to I cant do it), but if I could I would for sure. It was a great movie. Should buy the book soon.

Arrival.

The whole point of the film is a mystery so I won't spoil it. But frigging loved it. Absolutely stellar.

kapteeni13 03-24-2017 10:29 AM

Legion. Drugs, superpowers, mind jumping. What is the real 'real world' in that one. :monster:
Just waiting to see last cliffhanger episode of first season.

Other than that just had been watching TV shows like The Weakest Link, Who Wants To Be Millionaire...

Acclivius 03-24-2017 10:09 PM

I was just watching Power Rangers on Netflix. With the movie coming out, I was curious.

Crashpunk 04-02-2017 03:42 AM

So they released the Season 3 Premiere of Rick and Morty unannounced on April Fools Day. Crazy bastards.

It was incredible. Probably the best episode yet. The writing is beyond amazing at this point.

Phoetux 04-02-2017 11:06 AM

Welp, I gotta start that series as soon as possible

Gunnr 04-02-2017 11:55 AM

I watched Trolls last night. Everything looked like it was made from felt, plush, glitter n neon colors just thrown up all over. Which on one hand makes me think about how far dreamworks and pixar have come in making textures n stuff.

I also thought of how everyone used to collect those troll dolls when i was a kid, those were creepy. Everyone else in the room really enjoyed it. Then there was that Gorillaz song in the movie which was cool

STM 04-02-2017 01:22 PM

Dunno if anyone else is watching SS-GB, but if you get the chance, definitely watch it. It's a crime thriller in the vein of Fatherland and Dominion. Britain loses Battle of Britain, Nazis invade the south of England, executed Churchill, the British Empire capitulates. The themes of the story are quite poignant, and it's interesting note all the background fluff that's happening behind the story; a bureau of genetics is set up in Whitehall in the first episode, by the third the Jews are being forced to wear yellow stars, presumably in preparation for their deportation to Germany so as to be gasses. If you liked The Man in the High Castle, you'd probably enjoy this British twist.

Phylum 04-03-2017 06:50 AM

I saw Power Rangers and thought it was almost not bad. I expected to hate all of the characters but I didn't. Given that the movie is 90% character driven that was important. There were almost no scenes of Power Rangers punching things. Other than the training montage there actually isn't any action until the end.

e: spoilers ahead

I actually thought the setup story about Zordon coming to Earth in the time of the dinosaurs and getting betrayed by one of the rangers on his team sounded like a much more interesting story than 5 teen outcasts learning to be friends.

There are a lot of weird things about the movie. They keep telling us that they can't morph without completely explaining why. I didn't feel satisfied when they finally did. Giving Zordon an ulterior motive to train them had a hamfisted conclusion, and the scene where Blue morphed to break up a fight was never explored or explained. You know what would have been a great way to show us that they couldn't work as a team? Have a fight scene where they lose. Then build up to a fight scene that they win. If you're writing a garbage movie with gratuitous Krispy Kreme product placements don't try to reinvent the wheel, just hit those solid ABCs.

When the fucking finally morph the first thing they do is fight underwater. Who decided that was a good idea? I was ready for some rangers to punch some fools but instead they do some synchronized swimming?

And I didn't rate the treatment of Goldar. I really like the original design of Goldar (or his Japanese equivalent). He has that monster face, big shoulders, the wings. He's bulky and imposing. In the new movie he's lanky as fuck and doesn't have a face. And then the megazord is also lanky as fuck. So the ultimate robot battle at the conclusion is 5 seconds of awkward lanky fuckery then they just stab him.

All I really wanted from this movie was a dude in a monster costume fighting a dude in a cardboard box robot suit in a miniature city. Thankfully the Power Rangers series still exists, and is still an awkward combination of dubbed Japanese footage and shitty English speaking actors with boxy robots and fun choreography.

I don't know what I think of this movie. I guess I just wanted them to go in a totally different direction. Right now this movie felt bland, despite doing the characters much better than I expected. I would have loved for them to take a risk and make the movie colourful and fun. I think people could really get behind a camp, slightly self-aware Power Rangers movie with a dude in a boxy robot suit and swoop sound effects when the rangers move their arms. They could have made a really fun movie but still targeted it at people like me who grew up watching the show.

Either way I did enjoy it, and of all the trashy reboots lately I think this movie will be remembered for being fun to make fun of, and for not feeling lazy like certain other films.

I don't know if books count, but I've been reading Warhammer's Realmgate Wars series and it's pretty good. It does get confusing in some areas, but other than that it reads well. I do wish they would make their books easier to understand for casual readers who know nothing of the lore yet though. I'm seasoned with Warhammer lore but others are not and the books often seem to believe that everyone who picks them up should know everything. I know it would take time to explain it ALL, but maybe just slow down and explain what's in the current book, just a little. Then it might be all that much easier for me to get friends into Warhammer with me.

Gunnr 05-13-2017 10:15 PM

Just binge watched the new season of Samurai Jack eps1-9 one late night on yt! It's been pretty awesome(basically had everything my 13 year old self would have wanted for it, for better or worse :p ). I did enjoy it and both look forward to and dread reaching the final ep.

Edit: Just saw the last episode. Long story short without spoilers, I liked it.....

Alf Shall Rise 07-24-2018 09:18 AM

Recently watched through the Hannibal tv series (recently as in, spanning from January this year to like, June) and I fuckin loved it. I didn't think I was gonna enjoy it as much as I did. The way it progresses from feeling like a typical crime drama with some odd aspects to what it eventually becomes (especially in season 3) was so neat to see unfold. There are some things about it I'm not too crazy about (some of the killers of the week, like the guy who did the mural of corpses, seemed a little out of place, plus having so many killers in general felt like it lessened the impact of characters like Dolarhyde. But, overall. Enjoyed it big time.

CravenKnight 07-24-2018 12:43 PM

i watched the first two series of Westworld. i thought it was fucking brilliant. there's some parts that are a bit cliche but it's got great characters and story. it's got anthony hopkins and ed harris in it. i always remember ed harris from that movie The Rock. tacky film but the rogue general guy he played in it was fucking cool. he plays a great character in this too.

now i've watched everything they've released i'm left wanting more, so i'll just have to wait until they make the third series which could be a year or more, there's no date. i'm impatient though, it's been a long time since i've felt like this about a TV show. i'm addicted to Westworld.

honestly, watch it. it's great. then talk to me about it because god damn i need someone to talk it over with.

OddjobAbe 07-24-2018 01:50 PM

I need to watch Westworld, I've heard good things elsewhere too. I saw the original film, but I have a feeling that the series is only loosely related.

I watched the last couple of series of Trailer Park Boys (I'm a bit late). I need to see the rest, that was hilarious. I also decided to see what Bojack Horseman was all about. Ended up binging it and finishing it in probably less than 2 weeks... highly anticipate another series. I need my fix of grim comedy, and nothing's filling that hole currently.

yeah honestly, it's very very loosely based. i watched the original Westworld the other day actually, for comparison. i really liked the Gunslinger robot. i feel like that character was like the original Terminator.

the new Westworld is bigger and a little grim too. there are some corny parts and like i say some cliche shit but that's me trying to criticize it, it's mostly good stuff. some of the people there literally treat it like a computer game and go around killing everyone. you do it in games when you kill some guy just because they were annoying you or because they're no more use since you know it'll have no consequences, but in this place the bots look real so if someone does that it's like they've just killed a real person. it's just an interesting premise.

oh man TPB is gold. we need Mac to weigh in, he's the one that got me into them. i don't know if you've seen any episodes with Ray in but he fucking cracks me up.

i also wholly intend to watch the fuck out of Bojack i just haven't got around to it. people have praised it.

Yeah, he was terrifyingly relentless. I really liked that film, looking forwards to watching the series now. (completely unrelated, but I just remembered I need to finish Fargo too - loved the first series, only watched one episode of the 2nd)

I actually don't think I have, I need to watch it from the beginning. I think I did see a few episodes of the first series years ago, but I've forgot pretty much everything about them.

Do it, you'll probably enjoy it. I was sceptical when I read the synopsis, because I wondered how much I'd be able to relate to a millionaire lead, but I quickly realised the writers gave him everything he could want materially so they could really dig into the roots of his misery.

Also, consider watching Moral Orel. First series was a bit slow at points, but that just gets funnier and funnier as it becomes more and more grim.

CravenKnight 07-26-2018 12:33 AM

oh cool i'll add Moral Orel to my downloads watch list. that's another toon from Adult Swim i want to watch. there's a ton of all sorts of animation on there that i mean to see.

I've been going on about Westworld since I watched both seasons for the first time about a month ago.
Season 2 definitely had a different vibe to Season 1, but they were both fantastic and very very rewatchable. Based on the premise alone you can think of lots of ways the show could progress and half the fun is just trying to figure out what's going on.

I've calmed down now but for a while I couldn't stop raving about it.

Current weekly watch is Who Is America? which everyone must have heard about by now. Love seeing fresh oc Sacha.

yeah i actually intend to rewatch them again at some point in the near future because there's still a few things i don't quite get. season 2 was different from season 1 but i really enjoyed how it panned out. SPOILERS>>> i thought the evolution of the characters Dolores and Teddy was good. eventually Dolores fucked him up by directly altering him and sort of created a frankenstein's monster. James Delos and the Man in Black are fucking great to watch too. the second season is my favourite, mainly because the hosts can actually fight back by that point, but both are great.

hah, same here. i still can't wait for season 3 to come out.

Littleleeroy 08-12-2018 06:39 PM

I assume season 3 will be a while away, so I'll rewatch them just before it comes out. With Season 2 all the mindless violence got a bit tiring but as you say, it was great to see those progressions and Delos and Man in Black. I also loved seeing the real world and that they take the hosts out! Wasn't expecting that but it makes sense.

MA 08-13-2018 05:40 AM

yeah i was surprised they take the hosts out. i heard something at some point about them being fitted with an explosive in the base of the spine that goes off if they leave the park so i was confused, but maybe they can just deactivate it or something.

Littleleeroy 08-23-2018 03:50 AM

Well the majority of hosts weren't trying to leave the park, they were just acting as themselves with the added bonus of being able to really kill the guests. So QA were just trying to reclaim the park and capture/kill all the hosts so they can turn them back to normal.

Laser 08-23-2018 06:08 AM

I've been watching Spartacus on Netflix. Man, that show is utterly fantastic.

It is like Game of Thrones but with a hefty amount of cheese mixed in and with almost no pretence of trying to be arty. Its just Grade A schlock but in the most enjoyable way possible.
