It's more than just a review, it's more of a documentary. A 10 hour documentary.

Yeah, none of this fucking matters. I think that's what Nate is going for, not to stick meat in his mouth.
On that note, I've been watching Arrested Development. LOVE IT. BEST SHOW EVER. Season 3 isn't quite as great as Seasons 1 and 2 but it's such a snappy show I just want to unwatch it all and experience it for the first time. I've also been watching Archer. It's...okay. I'm not a fan of the limited animation style that it adopted from the creator's previous show, Frisky Dingo. They're both very funny but sometimes the omnipresent Sex and Alcohol jokes just don't do anything for me. |
Archer is just too much spies and alcohol for me to handle. Okay show, nothing special. I don't get it's so acclaimed. My friend makes me watch it every time we hang out and it's always either good or just average. But never great. Yet he thinks it's the best show ever.
|
It really has some great moments. The first few episodes I saw were good, but it hasn't quite captured that same feeling ever since. I don't know if I desensitized to the SPIES AND ALCOHOL or if those episodes were just funnier.
I think the first one I saw was part way through season 2, about catching some guy in a swamp. Someone who's seen more of the show than me can probably say if that's a good episode or not. |

Well, Sealab was made recycling actual bits of the original show. Sealab is fucking sublime though.
|
I've just seen Johnny Got His Gun (1971). It's the most depressing, hope-crushing and faith-breaking movie I've ever seen. I suggest watching it with a little to no knowledge of what it's about.
|
Too bad the vast majority of us have seen the One music video.
|
Damn you, Metallica! If it wasn't for you.... I'd probably have never heard about the movie. Nevermind, you're still cool.
|
I watched the video for One a few weeks ago, first time in a while. It hit me harder than I expected it to. Can't imagine how the movie would effect me. That subject matter just chills me to the bone.
|
This is an analysis by a film analyst/producer/director/writer. It's a very unbiased analysis, but I think it's on point. The real subject here is the movie, but the videogame discussion is the core point of the analysis. Really good.

I just watched Black Death. It was much better than I assumed but it was dark as fuck and left me feeling very cold. Everything about it was solid, a lot of surprisingly clever cinematography and great acting. I got into a weird fit of instantly regarding historical fiction films as crap after seeing Clash of the Titans, but this broke all those presumptions down. The woman who plays a spooky witch on Game of Thrones also appeared as such in this, seeing her playing off of Sean Beans resolute Christian soldier was actually very cool seeing as their characters never crossed paths in GoT.
Now I'm watching Centurion. Lots of hairless barbarians in the opening. I don't think hairless barbarians is historically accurate enough for me to sit through this entire movie. |
I saw Rob Zombie's new movie, The Lords of Salem. I'm not completely sure what I just watched but it had shit acting and faceless priests fondling their dicks. It was bad.
|
Rob Zombie makes very personal movies, so they're always hit and miss. What little I read about it sounded pretty convoluted, which is certainly unexpected considering his movies are usually brutishly simple.
|
I saw Oblivion. It was kinda poop.
|
The pigeons and I saw Iron Man 3. I enjoyed the Croydon joke. I gave it the Least Likely Geographical Reference in an Iron Man Film Award.
|
Was the movie good? I might be seeing it this weekend. I've heard mixed things.
|
He has an entertaining spat with an abandoned child, apart from that it was forgettable.
|
I liked it. It's loosely based on last decade's Extremis storyline, and it follows the last two films successful formula of not putting Stark in the suit(s) too much.
|
Well I'm a bit of a Marvel fanboy (loved the hell out of Avengers and thought Iron Man 1 and 2 were both pretty enjoyable; the former more than that latter) so I should enjoy it. I like what they're doing with the Marvel film universe.

Veep is getting so good. Everyone should watch it.

For some reason I decided to watch 'The Day after Tomorrow'. Needless to say, it was shite.

So, I saw the Evil Dead remake.
It had a lot of gore (and I mean a lot) and most of it was great fun too! It also had quite a lot of references to the original Evil Dead(s), but some of them felt kind of forced and didn't really fit the more serious tone of movie they were going with in this remake. The parts where the deadites spoke with the haunted voice were actually kind of funny and creepy at the same time, I liked that. Those are pretty much the only pros of the movie though, other than that, it sort of let me down... The actors weren't too bad, but the characters they played were boring and dumb to say the least, the story is altered quite a bit from the original (it is a remake after all), but definitely not for the better, there are literally fucking tons of jump-scares in the movie (they're all extremely predictable too), there are a few one-liners near the end of the movie that are so shit that I just felt angry after hearing them. It wasn't even because they were cliché, but it seemed more like that the writers thought they were so cliché that people would actually like them. Ugh, dead wrong, they were terrible and fucking annoying. I could keep on listing small or not-so small faults of the movie, but I think you get the point. Overall quite disappointing, but I hope I didn't describe it too negatively, it was pretty fun to watch with a few friends even though it had a lot of flaws and it's definitely gorier than your average modern horror movie, so if you're into shit like that, you might enjoy it a bit more. I'd probably give it a rating of 5/10. I can't say I'm too surprised though, I was very skeptical of it ever since the first trailer came out, but I wanted to see it anyways. |
The way you described it sounded like you haven't seen the original, but you also imply several times that you have.

Watched Gladiator last night.
It had some great action scenes and a lot of tension. The story was pretty good as well, really sad at times and it was one of those movies where you really want the protagonist to win (or in this case, take revenge). A few nitpicks are I thought it was a pretty slow with it's pacing. You didn't see Maximus become a gladiator until about an hour in and sometimes I didn't really understand what was happening. The one thing I really don't get is why did Maximus die at the end? He was clearly injured after getting stabbed but not enough to suddenly die? He was strong enough to fight and he was only stabbed in the back of the shoulder? What's funny is after watching and loving Spartatus, I found it weird not seeing over-the-top slow motion and gore in a Gladiatorial combat environment. (Yes I know Gladiator was released way before Spartacus or 300) |

Well, you started off by saying the remake wasn't as good as the original(s), which says to me you've seen the original and know how awesome it is. Then the list of things that you thought sucked about the remake are exactly the things that made the original so great; cheap scares, corny one-liners, etc.
I walked away with "It's just like the original. It sucked. Go see it". |

I thought The Evil Dead was pretty fun. Not as funny as I would have liked, but still pretty good.
|
I saw Ravenous last night. what a weird film.
when the credits were rolling, I felt disappointed and confused. but today I feel different about it. the film had some intense moments, many of them strange, but the key tone of the story was kinda absorbing. the image I have in my mind now, when thinking about the film, is Robert Carlyle's disturbed expression http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WkKZJVG5wT...enous-2-32.jpg and the soundtrack is simply amazing! (michael nyman & damon albarn) |
Jacob's Ladder. It's fucking awesome, and with a few scenes that obviously inspired Silent Hill.
Although, even though you pretty much get the story force-fed to you at the end, I still don't understand what the fuck all that trippy shit was about. Was it a side effect of the drug, or just his insanity? Maybe he died in the war and this all took place before it? Maybe he was dead? |
Free willy 2
Ive got to say hands down, best movie ever made. |
You're still here?

Unfortunately, lurking in the background.
