I thought Charlie Brooker was the guy who made Black mirror and Dead Set.

MeechMunchie 06-05-2012 04:48 AM

He is, but he goes back a looooong way. I remember when he still wrote Screen Burn.

@Manco, the main difference between Brooker and Croshaw is that Charlie Brooker has worked with or on TV for all of his career. He understands the medium and is therefore in a good position to give useful insight.

Croshaw, on the other hand, is just a guy on YouTube who got popular, has never worked at a game company, and has never made a game in his life beyond three or four short, average-quality, 2D adventure games.

Wings of Fire 06-05-2012 04:50 AM

And he wrote a very shitty book...

...According to OANST.

Well that’s kind of my point. Brooker knows what he’s talking about, and can this provide useful insight while also being funny.

Meanwhile, Yahtzee cannot provide this same insight and expertise, and so can only be funny.

So comparing the two as though they are similar:
:

Oh, don't get me ranting about Yahtzee again. He's like Charlie Brooker: He's a comedian, not a critic. Watch his videos, and enjoy them. Just don't take anything he says to heart.

is not justified.

MeechMunchie 06-05-2012 11:45 AM

I'd say that they both favour the comedy over the criticism is a legitimate similarity. Though it's easy to forget when you realise how smart he is, Charlie Brooker's comedy is still 60% manchildish gurning and bellowed expletivies.

Nepsotic 06-05-2012 11:50 AM

Where'd the rest of this thread go?

E: I see.

Dynamithix 06-06-2012 11:55 AM

I beat Syndicate today (the new one, not the old PC game). I thought it was alright. My main complaint is that it's so bright. I mean, really, really bright. At some parts you can't even see anything. I thought the boss fights were interesting even though the first one is pretty damn hard. I just felt like playing a generic FPS but I think it was a bit better than your usual FPS. I liked the soundtrack.

MeechMunchie 06-06-2012 12:11 PM

I played Ben There, Dan That!, an adventure game by two unemployed London games developers called Ben and Dan who make crude jokes. It's about two unemployed London games developers called Ben and Dan who make crude jokes while trapped in the multiverse.

jumper 06-06-2012 12:35 PM

I have that. Is it worth playing?

Mr. Bungle 06-06-2012 12:38 PM

Slowly plugging away through Diablo 3. I have a level 19 Demon Hunter and am nearly finished act 2. Game's still a lot of fun, but I can't wait to start playing with my friends at a higher level. Only complaint (other than the obvious issue: no offline mode) is that the story is very bland and uninspired. I mean, I'm going through the quests, and people are talking to me about whatever the hell's going on in this world, and I just can't be phased. At least Diablo II had something of an interesting story.

Ah well, gameplays fun, so what do I care.

If you already have it, it's always worth playing. Apart from ARES. Fuck that shit.

Have you tried a second character? The dialogue's the same.

Also playing Q.U.B.E. It's okay. Just an amateur Portal knockoff.

Mr. Bungle 06-06-2012 12:43 PM

I played a Wizard for like a couple minutes but other than that, no.

Yeah, I kinda wish Blizzard had put at least a little more effort into the story/narrative of this one. But at least we get nice, shiny pre-rendered cutscenes. Those are always fun.

MeechMunchie 06-06-2012 12:48 PM

Oh, I'm playing the demo so I'm getting my no-money's worth by getting all the classes to Level 10 before I buy the game.

In what way¿

MeechMunchie 06-06-2012 12:50 PM

In the "We don't need a narrative because we have shifting white panels" sort of way.

Nepsotic 06-06-2012 01:01 PM

I checked it out. Doesn't look great.

That's almost as retarded as that time MM said he was going to watch a Let's Play of a game he owns.

Nepsotic 06-06-2012 01:11 PM

I watch speedruns of Portal 2. Just because I like to watch it and then comment stuff like : 'When you were falling down the pit in chapter 6, I was watching the credits'.

I am still the fastest speedrunner of that game.

Mac Sirloin 06-06-2012 01:23 PM

Oooh, I very sincerely doubt that fact.

I'm playing Final Fantasy X, just trying it on an a VERY buggy emulator before I for a purchase. Terribly written but fun.

Nepsotic 06-06-2012 01:35 PM

You think you can beat me?
1 hr 50 mins.
Beat that shit.

Someone has.

Arcanum? I'm playing that right now, incidentally, and it's so fucking inpenetrable I feel like finding a video and skipping to the bit where someone tells me where the good bits are.

Pic or Videos or it didn't happen. Also I'm pretty sure Chubfish can give you a run for your money.

Alright, if you want to be petty about it, it was around1.53 minutes. I don't have any pics or vids but I'd be happy to try it again. I don't think the game has a timing mechanic though, and last time I timed it on my phone. I reckon with a lot of practice I could beat the game in under 1.50. The way I di it is, I play each chapter through as fast as I can about five times, and then combine my fastest times. I also think I can beat Wheatley in under 3 minutes, last time I was just over. Its tricky.

Mr. Bungle 06-06-2012 05:03 PM

I'm sure you're good at the game, but come on. I highly doubt you're the best. I mean, come on man. You're not even asian.

Nepsotic 06-06-2012 11:47 PM

I'm not the best, no. That goes to someone called hatuario akurami. Probably.

I am fast though!

Crashpunk 06-07-2012 03:32 AM

I want a video. Now.

Someone's making excuses.

Jessie, Enhance this post!

Jessie: Yes sir!

Using science, I can extrapolate upon your many, many posts.

Jessie, change the angle using remote triangulation.

Jessie: Someone's eworming my viruses but okey doke sir!

Yes, thank you Jessie. According to my SCIENCE FACTS BOOK here, there are 0 trustworthy sources for rapid times beating Portal 2 apart from Chubfish, The Great Spirit. Thanks for trying anyway. Science marches on.

My GUI interface in Visual Basic is telling me that you, Mac, need to take a chill pill.

Mac Sirloin 06-07-2012 05:55 AM

The flaming, bubbling mass of molten plastic and wires that used to be my hard drive apparently agrees. Point taken.

Nepsotic 06-07-2012 10:24 AM

I can't possibly show you a vid! I have it on xbox. Whats chubfish's time?
