I'm playing Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling together. Judging by the rhetoric that the turbo fatbeards on youtube are spewing, it's the best SRPG ever. I got it with the Guidebook which is something I haven't done since I was 13, but this is one of those cases where the guide will just explain how to complete the game but not how to beat the game, that is, I still have to play pretty carefully. It looks amazing; the sprite art is superb and all the character portraits look detailed and tell you a lot about the characters. The writing is fantastic, especially given the genre and the music is so good I had my headphones in my PSP and ended up listening to a 13 minute or so orchestral piece that was the menu music, thinking it was something else. It's pretty much the only thing I got for my birthday that wasn't food so I'm excited. Unfortunately updating away from CFW on my PSP to play it killed about 70 hours of progress on some homebrew games but oh well number systems and fantasy battles ahoy.

I finally got round to buying and downloading Corpse Party for my PSP last night.

I love it.

I completely understand the whole 'play scary games at 3 AM in the dark with headphones' thing now because Corpse Party was pretty god damn creepy.

Rediscovered an old Morrowind save. Couldn't be arsed to get back into it, so I just went for a stroll.

So. Pretty. Especially modded.

So pretty you just had to mess with us by giving many very small pictures of it. Stop being me evil

i always get crazy urges to replay morrowind. it was always my least favourite elder scrolls (extremely unpopular opinion) but i remember getting the biggest sense of adventure from it, which i miss a lot.

I'd attach a .zip if I hadn't used up all my attachment bandwidth years ago.

I have been playing Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee on my Vita and I'm now at the stockyard return part. Very fun.

Has anyone had a chance to play Behemoth's new game, Battleblock Theater? There doesn't seem to be a demo for it which is kind of strange since there's always a free trial for arcade games on Xbox. I'll probably get it later.

Manco 04-04-2013 01:23 PM

I just finished Bioshock Infinite, and:

Ohhhhh man, the trailers for this game are funny enough for me to consider getting a 360 just to try it out. Hopefully they release it cross-platform later on like Castle Crashers. How much is it?

I'm tempted to make this my sig but I'd lose banner privileges again and once was enough.

I would like to reiterate that Tactics Ogre VII is fucking amazing and probably the most well constructed game I've ever played. I'd suggest everyone download or buy it but it's effing rare and it's virtually impossible to pirate. If you see it in a shop pick it up, it's pretty hard to find and you can probably resell it so some sperglord for all kinds of profit.

As a matter of fact, I'd go so far as to consider doing my first Let's Play with it if some people could teach me how to do that with PSP games.

Wings of Fire 04-04-2013 05:48 PM

Is that the same as Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together? Because that's available for £15 on the playstation online store thingy.

Mac Sirloin 04-04-2013 07:20 PM

Noooo my dreams

Anyway I guess I mean more the physical copy of the game is rare. I haven't checked PSN in awhile but I'm positive they didn't have it the last time I was on there. Anyway you should get it, now that I've shanghaied you into talking about it it's simply the only option.

How much is it?

It's 1200 MS points. The reviews for it seem to be mostly positive.

Strike Witch 04-05-2013 02:06 AM

I'm up to the third mansion in Luigi's Mansion 2.

First boss was a giant possessed spider, first midboss was three elegant ghost ladies, second boss was a haunted flight of stairs.

Luigi sure is getting shit done despite being so scared.

OANST 04-05-2013 07:15 AM

You're so much less interesting now, Strike Cunt. What happened?

You should post more grossly inappropriate gifts that your mother gave you.

Strike Witch 04-06-2013 12:04 AM

Look, if you want the sexbase buddha, I'm sure we could come to a price.

My brother used to have one of those, made out of jade.

Perhaps my brother is actually your mother?!

Woah!

OANST 04-06-2013 06:34 AM

Now that's interesting!

WolfensteinOdess 04-06-2013 07:12 AM

I'm playing Slender - The arrival

Phylum 04-07-2013 01:29 AM

Getting back into Quake Live again, again, again. I almost built up to 1200elo, but I then lost ~6 consecutive games. Also, I had my face punched in by one of Australia's highest elo players.

Not being premium and having to stick to one rotation of maps is bad. Not being able to vote maps on free servers any more is ridiculous. I might just dish out the $24 and get into a regular routine.

Dynamithix 04-07-2013 05:46 AM

I picked up Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for the Vita. I liked the demo a lot, but what really put me off once I started playing the full version was that I couldn't choose English as a language. I'm seriously stuck with the Nordic localization and apparently I can't play it in English unless I a) buy it from the PSN store or b) import it. *sigh* Anyways, the game is quite good so far, I just hate hearing the characters speak in Finnish.

Git'Im 04-07-2013 09:47 AM

Rayman 2 : The Great Escape

Fuck, this shit is still epic.

Mac Sirloin 04-08-2013 05:10 PM

I'm playing Dark Souls with Chris's help. It's a tough game but so far it doesn't feel unforgivably difficult, just rage inducingly hard. I'm still very early on though. Definitely worth buying if the level of depth in it is as much as people say.

FUCK skeletons though.

Strike Witch 04-09-2013 09:12 PM

I finished Luigi's Mansion 2.

Fun, enjoyable, challenging, bosses were a bit of a let-down.

Mr. Bungle 04-16-2013 11:17 PM

Batman: Arkham City

Oh man this game. Everything I ever wanted in a superhero game.

DarkHoodness 04-17-2013 04:29 AM

Dopefish lives!

Commander Keen was my Mario during my childhood, it was nice to go back and re-play it for the first time in a number of years.

Phylum 04-17-2013 05:04 AM

Monkey Island 2 for the first time.

I am not disappointed. It's every bit as perfect as it should be. I never want it to end, because I know that there will probably never be another Gilbert Monkey Island game for me to play.

I don't even know what makes it so addictive, but I just want to squeeze every line of dialogue and quirky puzzle out of this game.

The other reason why you never want it to end is because the ending is shit. That is not overstatement. I'm only saying it to warn you.

Awesome game otherwise, though.

Varrok 04-17-2013 06:17 AM

I wouldn't say it's shit. I would say you might not like it.

Also, Monkey Island 3 is awesome too. Make sure to check it out

Wings of Fire 04-17-2013 06:38 AM

I've heard about the ending from Nate and I thought it was awesome.

Nate 04-17-2013 03:35 PM

Monkey Island 4 is eh. Tales of Monkey Island has its ups and downs, but is on average quite good.

Would you have thought it was awesome if I hadn't lowered your expectations?

Phylum 04-17-2013 07:28 PM

I know what happens at the very end, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean. I don't think it's that bad, but I haven't seen it in context.

I love the music to death. If I ever make a retro adventure game I'm going to use MIDI music. I found some piano transcriptions of some of the tunes, which are conveniently basic enough for me to learn, but challenging enough to push my crappy keyboard skills up a notch.

Nate 04-17-2013 10:10 PM

You can download the soundtracks for all the (non-Special Edition) Monkey Island games and several of the other Lucasarts adventure games on this website.

I recommend The Dig and Grim Fandango.

Strike Witch 04-18-2013 05:25 AM

Playing Code Of Princess for 3DS. It's a JRPG mixed up with a streets of rage brawler. Fun timewaster.

Mac Sirloin 04-18-2013 07:13 AM

Dark Souls

Last night I finally upgraded Lanselot Sloan, neutral knight, who came from the swamp and stopped at the forest to defend it from invasion because he doesn't really care about starting a giant arson across Lordran or whatever, into something capable of wielding the Golem Axe. A big smelly willy of a weapon that fires airblasts and doesn't afraid of anything. Just like that, PvP became an issue of blowing people off of cliffs and chunking them to pieces with a big-ass axe. Now I need armour that will absorb a lot of hit without making me stagger.

Dynamithix 04-18-2013 07:41 AM

Aww shit son, I've been playing Dark Souls too a lot and I mean a lot. Played for roughly 20 hours the last weekend and have been getting most of the weapon upgrade achievements, both on the PC version and the Xbox version. Also finally started the Artorias of the Abyss DLC and killed Sanctuary Guardian, was pretty easy. I made a sorcerer character on the Xbox version and started collecting all the miracles and sorceries since I'm missing that achievement and it's not too hard to get them all. I also played a lot of co-op with my friend, helped him out in the beginning and showed him a few good weapons, brethren before wenches motherfucker.

I also downloaded the Soul Sacrifice demo for the Vita. Weird game. I heard some say it was similar to Monster Hunter, but I don't think it is really. It's about killing disturbing looking huge monsters with all kinds of different magic abilities and special weapons and then either sacrificing or saving their true human forms. If you sacrifice them, you get a huge magic level boost and maybe some items (?), but if you save them, you get their human forms as your NPC partners and get a big life level boost. I like the character/enemy design, the art-style and the different styles of magic abilities but the game also feels very limited. It's not open world, the magic abilities won't last forever unless you constantly re-new them and there don't seem to be any different sorts of missions other than slaying bosses or optional monsterslaying missions. The story is told through a weird demonic journal who can speak. As I said, weird game.

Oh yeah and Mac, would you say Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is a good game to pick up on the PSN store? I was considering it, but I'm not sure if it's up my alley. I wouldn't have any other friends to play it with and I haven't played the other games in the series, how easy is it to get into? It looks good.

Mac Sirloin 04-18-2013 07:51 AM

The way things are looking, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite might be the last MH game on a Sony console. But it's still the best in MH game in the series, has literally 500 hours of raw content and I believe it has thumbstick camera support on PS3/Vita.

So yes, get it get it get it.

wait typing up a full thing on its playability and whatnot

Extremely easy to get into, with or without friends. But assuming we can get the PS3's cross platform party program to work I can probably help you out from the beginning. MH is purpose built for lots of multiplayer adventuring with a heavy dose of pre-hunt planning, but the single player missions are, well, single player for a reason. The learning curve isn't too steep for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd sets of missions, but after that it's fairly unforgiving and some of the monsters are pretty ludicrously powerful. There are a lot of great guides to the game online by people who worked much harder at it than I do, but there are some basic things you should now:
Get an electric and a poison weapon early on, preferably something like the sword and shield or dual swords because they hit very very fast and built up statuses like nobody's business. The Lance is never a bad choice because it offers the best defensive options but it plays a little differently to the other weps. Greatswords are overrated until you're about halfway through and can grind for the ones that do insane raw damage like 1200. Until you've mastered the art of rolling and have super amazing defense lobster armour, stick to a very defensive style of play. Always always always have paintballs before you start a mission. Monster Hunter is all about grinding, much the same way Dark Souls can be, but it's a bit more lenient about keeping you from losing all your progress if you die. Typically you have 3 attempts ina given mission, die once you get knocked out, die twice you get knocked out and the monster relocates, die thrice and you lose. Most missions start out with a set of healing items you don't have to purchase so you can save your money but it's handy to carry mega potions. Try to check the wiki before taking on a monster, learn its weaknesses, patterns and body language.
(inhale)
It's a really great game and totally sucks you in. As I understand it they used the MMoRPG model of KILL XENOBEAST 400 TIMES FOR GAUNTLETS OF BUTT and that becomes totally addicting. Just don't hack the game to give yourself every single item, that literally takes any iota of fun out of the experience. Worth the money. Buy it. Why aren't you buying it? Buy it!

Oh, and you'll want Hermitaur armour. As soon as you fight the red crab enemy, fight it again and again until you get his full armour set and you'll thank me. You don't have to thank me, but it'll be a handy equipment to have for the midgame.

Dynamithix 04-18-2013 08:09 AM

Shit, that sounds pretty awesome. I'll pick it up next week, gotta finish my Dark Souls playthrough and get to playing Vanquish soon.

Wings of Fire 04-19-2013 06:00 AM

I finally have Fire Emblem Awakening. I've only been waiting about five years for it.

Mac Sirloin 04-19-2013 09:49 AM

I've heard good things about that game. A friend of mine has been playing it nonstop on his 3DS for months.

not half as good as Tactics Ogre though
