Looks like that reptile needs a hand.

Can you think of any animal that is born with its horns?

It happens to deer a lot in stressful times, they simply just don't grow their antlers back. You could say that this is a big difference, but i think the same rules apply. Many animals also give birth to babies with birth defects under very stressful influences. That would mean that Stranger is really young, or else the steef mass extinction finished shortly after his birth...
I dunno. Personal preferences i suppose.

Nepsotic 07-07-2012 01:02 PM

He meant naturally born without them. Also doesn't stranger have edged stumps? That would suggest they'd been sawn off.

Leave the puns to those of us who can handle them.

Nepsotic 07-07-2012 03:10 PM

Fair enough. I'm not a big fan of puns anyway, that was supposed to be ironic. Oh well.

Thanks. Anyway, the point is it's not only a horned lizard, but a newly-hatched one.

that's true, you can see it on the back of the diagram, but maybe that's just raised pieces of skull like many mammals with horns have.

Nother question, why are many of the fauna or oddworld eyeless?

Phylum 07-07-2012 08:50 PM

No idea.

Nepsotic 07-08-2012 01:11 AM

Haha puwned!

That didn't work. I'll just leave them to you guys.

STM 07-08-2012 02:54 AM

Evolution dictates they didn't need eyes, if I remember correctly - but don't hold me to it - they have the equivalent of sonar. Though those green orbs that make you invisible in AE would then have to mask Abe to eyes and to sonar sight.

Bullet Magnet 07-19-2012 12:03 PM

They seem to see you regardless of which way they're facing.

Paramites sense the world primarily by smell. I believe Scrabs sense the world, at least the inhabitants of it, by electroreception. As for why there are so many, I can see two likely reasons.
  1. No eyes is easier to animate than yes eyes.
  2. Lorne loves and is fascinated by animals that deviate from our expectations of life, hence also the heavy use of so-called 'super species' as a reproductive method.

MeechMunchie 07-19-2012 02:02 PM

But how do Paramites smell?

No funny business here, is it a Jacobson's Organ affair or what? I can imagine the mandibles helping with that.

Scratch surface with fingers -> Lick fingers with tongue -> Flap tongue into J.O.

Maybe that's just because he didn't like the idea of two Mud's going at it. I can see what you mean though. I like Parasites, and Jellyfish, it's all interesting.

STM 07-20-2012 05:58 AM

A mudokon still needs to fuck Sam for her to start making babies. Let's just hope they're not like bees, once the male orgasms his dick falls off/ balls explode.

Wil 07-20-2012 06:36 AM

It's more to do with being a reason for Lorne to have a whole species hold a single person in high regard. No need to play with elections or feudal systems when your leader is literally essential for your species's survival. It also serves as a mechanism to explain species-wide characteristics, for example, why all Sligs are cruel bullies and why all Glukkons are ruthless capitalists.

Plus, yeah, it means the affairs of the worker castes aren't doused in rubbish romance formulae.

MeechMunchie 07-20-2012 07:27 AM

That's a good point, actually. OWI went to fairly long lengths to inform players that Abe had no sexual organs, otherwise fans would be dying to see him get a girlfriend.

STM 07-20-2012 07:44 AM

Abette.

Bullet Magnet 07-20-2012 10:13 AM

Based on the earlier games, you might think that mudokons were monogendered or had zero sexual dimorphism.

There's probably a reason why there have been no hermaphrodite love stories. At least not between people who don't look like hot girls.

MeechMunchie 07-20-2012 10:14 AM

For a second I thought STM was speaking French for "abate" or something.

Wait wait wait that actually exists?

Hmm, i think the worst I've heard of is Munch and Abe.

Also, why the hell would sligs evolve without legs? I don't see any evolutionary benefits to that.

Phylum 07-20-2012 08:14 PM

I completely agree. Snakes are stupid and should have evolved better.

Errr... I'm not talking about fanfiction. I'm talking canon.

Nepsotic 07-21-2012 01:06 AM

Nothing MO related should be canon.

I think Gwan's point about the Sligs was that they couldn't possibly evolve like that. Snakes did because snakes' skill involves being sneaky and getting into small holes, Sligs are halfway there but have hands, so, either no hands, or some legs is his point (I think). Sligs are cool though, and even though not physically possible, they should never ever change them. (Plus it is Oddworld, anything can happen)

Bullet Magnet 07-21-2012 01:45 AM

It's possible that only Skillya's kids are like that. She carries a defecting gene, perhaps. Or is addicted to Thalidomide.

Manco 07-21-2012 03:08 AM

Sligs originally evolved in swamps if I remember rightly. I can see how in that environment, having arms for fishing, paddling, grabbing sticks/roots/etc would be beneficial, but having legs which may get stuck in mud might be less useful.

Perhaps Sligs are good foragers and swimmers.

MeechMunchie 07-21-2012 04:23 AM

Yeah, I always imagined them like a big newt tadpole.

http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...4/2/gcnewt.jpg

Subsequent industrialisation caused their delicate tails to atrophy.
