I'd like to see either of you make solid coloured 3D model as iconic and artistic as Pixar has. http://www.starstore.com/acatalog/ra...-kitchen-l.jpg yeah just anyone can masterfully create creases in clothing, solid colour freckles and solid colour shaded finger wrinkles. if your case in point is The Incredibles then you completely missed the point. |
You would like to see me make one of those? Ahhh! I wouldn't dare! I abandoned 3D due to my terribleness at it! Yeh Pixar do make some good models and fur textures and things, I have nothing against that, I just don't like the films they make (thinking about the storylines here). Saying that, I do prefer CG movies where the charactors look more realiatic.
The rat looks cute, considering at has a weird nose. |

... They weren't talking about the story, were they? Pixar is ah-may-zeeng simply because of Toy Story. I wub Toy Story. |
Pixar is good but classic Disney is far better.
I just watched Beauty and the Beast for about the thousandth time and I dare anyone to watch this clip without feeling any compulsion to sing along. Classic Disney just seems to have far more style than all this CGI tosh (With the exception of the Toy Stories) |
GlacierDragon: I disagree with you completely. It's the focus on stories that keep Pixar on a rank so much higher than any of the other CG studios. Monster's Inc, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles all have excellent plots, none of which could ever have been produced live action.
|
I prefer horror and monster movies :) which is why I rarely watch Pixar/Disney. But that's just my opinion. I understand that Pixar are very popular. Heck, i even used to like their stuff when I was younger!
|
...Just because you are older doesn't mean you can't appreciate the classics. Also, Hunchback of Notre Dame FTW!
|
Fox and the Hound.
Ten dollars to anyone that produces the clip of the badger chasing them off. Seriously. Via paypal. |

mostly bad :
AHAHAHAHAHAHA Grow up. |
I never changed anything. But if you want to get into an argument about it be my guest. I know Pixar is aimed at making kids movies so it's all about round shapes and pretty colors, but that doesn't mean I have to like the STYLE now do I? I don't like a movie where a dude's nose is bigger then an entire jew. And granted they do make some very nice sets in 3D which look pretty real, but if you're going to make the enviorment detailed then the characters should be just as detailed and that's where Pixar always fucks up. Not model wise, but texture wise.
|
fair enough. can't argue an opinion.
|
I wrote a short essay on the merits of Pixar under some context or other here on the forums. The whole thread was duly lost during a time-travelling update, damn you Alcar!
|
Heh, the whole Pixar thing is what makes TF2 so awesome. You know other than gameplay.

They may have excellent graphics, lighting, texturing, animation and world realisation, but they're still cartoons.
|
Hell, I like both of them. I do enjoy Pixars lovely way of creating an interesting story line.
Cartoons are good. They help us to see beyond the life-restricting abilities we were granted! Hehe, I just loved Ratatouille! It was so cute, but a wee bit long for moi. |

I see his point.
I think what he means is that they're not trying to be realistic, because at the root of it all they're still cartoons, which on the most part are heavily stylized. |
Well, yes. But he used the word 'cartoon' to signify something negative.
|
That was not my intention.
I meant that they're just the same as any caricatures and stylised environments seen in traditional 2D cell animation, but rendered in 3D in technical detail. That they have highly realistic lighting effects and individual hair-wind simulation doesn't put any compunction on the animators and artists to produce a photo-realistic cast. They're just higher quality versions of Homer³. |
You're so smart BM. Could I borrow your brain for my Science test tomorrow?
Cartoons are still good! You can make things do stuff they wouldn't normally do....Like with Over The Hedge, or as we are currently chatting about, Ratatouille. In real life you couldn't train a rat that way. And I doubt you could find one with blue-grey fur that was that tame. |
Or indeed, able to speak.

I saw Tideland, recently. I think I liked it. I think. The obvious thing that upset people in the film I actually found to be quite sweet. Overall, it was interesting.
I've also been watching a British comedy called "Peep Show" which I have been thoroughly enjoying. The only problem I can see is that you damn Brits have way too short of seasons. Six episodes a year is just not enough, dammit. The average American show runs far too long in comparison. 24-27 episodes is too many to keep a coherent, tight story. But thirteen would be the perfect number. |
24 epi's is perfect. It allows for a story line to be told in much more detail and still has room for some off-topic episodes every once in a while. And of course some of us are just TV serie junkies who need something to watch every single week.
|
I just have a strong dislike for filler episodes.
|
Depending on what happens in them. But generally I kinda like em.
|
British shows don't tend to have more writers than cast members, so to keep up the quality (and health of the writers) six is the usual number of episodes. This may be why our comedy shows have such different flavours.
|
I just saw Son of Rambow and I liked it. It made me laugh. It also made me sad.
|
Graham Norton and Eddie Izzard, brilliant...
I saw Iron Man a week ago. I liked it more than I thought I would. :
