I somehow think that "slave worker gets the ability to possess security personnel and high ranking executive Glukkons" was not anywhere on their list of possible future problems in terms of uprisings.

:

()
And yet they have chant suppressors everywhere and armed security everywhere as well as landmines within a corporate environment. RF is just as much a fortress as it is a meat processing plant.

STM is a speedy shit. I was about to make this exact point. Really the whole Mudokon uprising is due to the negligence of whoever didn't want to put chant suppressors at equidistant points around the facilities.

STM 04-26-2016 09:01 AM

Literally every 20 feet fucking chant suppressors to zap any cunt that tries it. Even the amount there are already would suggest glukkons are pathologically terrified of even the most cack-handed indoctrinated slave's latent magical powers.

Vlam 04-26-2016 09:15 AM

Yes, but it could be argue that the chant suppressor is (mostly) a game mechanic.

That would be my argument, yes. If Abe's Oddysee would have been a movie like Lorne intended I don't think the concept of chant suppressors would even have existed.

Also in the original story Abe wasn't supposed to get that power until he completed the ancient trials, which indicates it's not the sort of power every Mudokon has or is at all common with modern Mudokons.

HOMINIX 04-26-2016 09:21 AM

In the game, it really isn't implied that the destruction of Rupture Farms caused them start mining in Necrum, so I'd bet that they just abandoned that aspect of the story, most likely due to time constraints.

Here we go again!

let me tell you about the ludonarrative

UnderTheSun 04-30-2016 04:47 PM

On the topic of why Soulstorm Brewery was such a big deal and needed to be taken down, while the disrespect for the Mudokons' ancestors started things off, if that was the real problem, then the game could easily have stopped at Necrum Mines and gone no further.

However, the real evil was in the use of Soulstorm Brew to establish an addiction for it among the naïve Mudokons. This dependency on brew logically leads to a dependency on the suppliers, so they're forced to labor for brew or suffer withdrawal. So Glukkon corporations buy brew, trick potential workers into drinking so much as a drop, and get extra manpower while Soulstorm Brewery makes a pretty penny.

Overall, the Magog Cartel gets more powerful as Mudokons suffer in slavery. Neither are things the dwindling Natives can afford. The solution? Cut the snake at the head; if the Brewery falls, the plot falls as well.

Sorry if this has been clarified elsewhere but I really don't want to skim all 26 pages of the thread. Do we know if the game will use the same 2.5D format of New'n'Tasty or is it something different? I'm really hoping to see a 3D Abe game in the near future :X
Also, is it a slightly modified adaptation of the original game a la N'n'T or a new game entirely? From the announcement I got the impression that this would be a sort of expanded edition to the original game which is something I'm personally really looking forward to seeing.

STM 05-13-2016 01:34 PM

You know as much as we do from the limited info release on the website.

In a nutshell, SoulStorm will probably be like NnT (and slightly darker).

STM 05-14-2016 08:25 AM

Vlam's got no evidence to back that up by the way. Just putting that out there.

Vlam 05-14-2016 08:47 AM

Auriel, you should read the 26 pages. STM is trolling.

STM 05-14-2016 09:36 AM

No I'm not, Auriel. We literally know nothing about the game that isn't on the Soulstorm website. Everything else is conjecture and supposition.

So, here's what I think: y'all should CALM THE FUCK DOWN. This is a press release. A press release that is specifically responding to the criticisms of the previous game. A very vaguely worded press release that is filling all of your heads with ideas of what the game is going to be like. It doesn't actually say that Abe is leading all 300 muds across the desert, although that's what many of you have assumed. It doesn't say that it's a new game set in between AO and AE, but there's many people suggesting that too.

Here's what I interpretted the press release to mean: It's going to be AE but slightly less cartoony. Nothing more, nothing less.

All of you are just asking to be disappointed when the game comes out and it's not the wonderous fantabulousness you're imagining. Jeez, do Oddworld fans never fucking learn?

If yes, they should harden the fuck up.

I'm an authority now?

HOMINIX 05-16-2016 09:05 AM

It all depends on what you mean by "like New n Tasty". I seem to remember a recent interview in which Lanning suggested the gameplay would be like NnT (which I presume means no grid and no flipscreen), but as far as tone, who knows?

I've cited you in every uni assignment I've ever written.

I voted for you in the presidental elections. Unfortunately, some other guy won.

And based on experience. Some opinions are better than other. Don't be so modest.

Nepsotic 05-17-2016 12:35 AM

My opinion is the best.

STM 05-17-2016 09:59 AM

Nepsotic you're not even supposed to be here how can you have an opinion?

Nepsotic 05-17-2016 01:12 PM

At least I left for a bit, which was my plan. You made a leaving blog then didn't even fuck off! The cheek!

STM 05-18-2016 12:06 AM

I did for like, four days. I didn't expect go suddenly have so much free time at work. Any way glad you're back d00d.
