Damn, all I've got is the art book =/

Don't worry we haven't got it either :(

AlexFili 03-18-2009 03:52 AM

Why exactly was the Doc killed in Stranger's Wrath? Did Sekto plan this in advance?

Also, are there any Stranger's Wrath maps at all? It seems unlikely that there would be a snowy region a few minutes away from a grassy kind of region. Or did the journey on the boat take a longer time?

Bullet Magnet 03-18-2009 04:56 AM

Doc was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Castaraider had asked around to find out where Stranger was going.

do you recommend Stranger's Wrath as i haven't played it?

Bullet Magnet 03-20-2009 12:05 PM

Yes. Most definitely. Pay double.

It's quite challenging compared to the other games but still very fun. If you get stuck it can be boring though.

Programming Language Questions

Hey, I'm new to this forum, and I have a few questions.
Could anyone please tell me :
1) What programming languages were used to create Abe as a character in abe's oddysee and exoddus?
2) What programming language was used to create the levels of both of the games?
3) What program was used to create the 3d videos?
Thanks,
Dean

AlexFili 03-22-2009 08:35 AM

I have a friend called Dean! :D

Unfortunately I don't think anyone knows.
AO and AE were programmed using the "ALIVE engine" which is probably closed source.
Levels in both games are most likely hard coded, as there is no level editor for them
3D videos were probably created in the latest graphics package at the time.

Nowadays people use 3D studio max, Maya, Blender... etc

It might say on the Oddworld Inhabitants website, otherwise... I don't think anyone knows.

Hey thanks for replying,

Games In Quintology

Thanks for replying,
The latest game released in the quintology was Stranger's Wrath wasn't it?
Will "Hand of Odd" be released or not?
Thanks.
Dean and Adel

AlexFili 03-22-2009 09:01 AM

Common misconception. So far only the Oddysee titles have been part of the Quintology. The other games have been bonuses and not part of the Quintology.

Hand of Odd was going to be an RTS set in the past, to be released alongside the Xbox games, unfortunately no gameplay was ever seen. There were a lot of concept art and demo videos avaliable though. It might be possible that they can work on it and release it, but as far as we know nothing has been said.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath was the last Oddworld game to be released so far. However supposedly there is another Oddworld game in the works. But very early stages of development so far I think.

Xavier 03-22-2009 09:02 AM

Stranger's Wrath is not part of the quintology, only Abe and Munch's Oddysee are. Hand of Odd won't probably be released, except maybe in a very long time.

EDIT: Yeah, like he said. Except maybe about that hand of odd being set in the past, can't remember that

Thanks ,
Now, could you please tell me the address of the official website please?
Both the oddworld websites I know are kind of out of service. For instance, on the latest one I posted a question for Oddworld Inhabitants and they have never replied to it, and that was about 2 months ago.
Thanks again.

From what I've read Hand of Odd would have been set in the past. Thats why there were some concept drawings for Meeches for that game.

Pilot 03-22-2009 09:54 AM

I'm not completely filled in on the facts, but a lot of the AO and AE characters were originally conceived with 3D Studio Max; the machines that OWI used were SGI (Silicon Graphics) Machines; which are standard in the high end CG animation world.

As far as programs run on the SGI I can't say but I think that the 3DSM was an SGI port.

Meeches were designed by Steven Olds long before Hand of Odd was thought up. At one point OWI discussed setting it in the past, but that was far from concrete.

I’m merging this with the Q&A thread.

AlexFili 03-22-2009 11:31 AM

Can anyone explain why the Gloktogi were able to vanish into thin air and teleport somewhere else. Are they ghosts or something?

Exactly. In fact, the concept drawing of the Meech is identical to the Meech on the poster in AO, except it isn't colored.

I believe that they used C++ as a primary programming languages, using the libraries specific to each specific console for which they were producing the game. They licensed graphics engines but I can't remember which ones they were.

Question! Is there any Mduokon with untied hair?

Fuzzle Guy 03-24-2009 12:27 PM

United hair? Like the Brothers Ba-zoo?

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9851/balew.jpg

The poor brothers Ba-zoo!
Suppose your hair grew
like theirs happenned to do!
You think you're unlucky...?
I'm telling you, Duckie,
some people a muchly,
oh, ever so muchly,
muchly more-more-more unlucky than you!

Okay, so I did originally think it said "united" when I first read the question. But after spending thrity five minutes trying to remember which Dr Seuss book it was, finding the book out from the pile which hasn't been see in years, then trying to get my scanner to work, I realised my error, but I thought I would rather make myself seem a pillock to everyone, than let all my hard work go to waste.:tard:

Question! Is there any Mduokon with untied hair?

As far as I know, there are no known mudokons with untied hair, but humans have untied hair, so why not?

Fuzzle Guy 03-24-2009 01:06 PM

Isn't the Shamman's untied?

Bullet Magnet 03-24-2009 01:21 PM

Mudarcher and Tomahawker warriors...

abe is now! 03-28-2009 05:44 AM

Oh sorry.. I meant in AO and in AE.

Jordan 03-28-2009 05:49 AM

Er... As far as I know all Mudokons in AO and AE have their hair in ponytails.

abe is now! 03-28-2009 05:54 AM

Perhaps it's beacuse of their religion and because of their old traditions... but I thought that the salved Mudokons could have untied hair...

Wil 03-28-2009 06:44 AM

Well there are two kinds of free Mudokon seen in AO and AE. Those Abe frees from slavery, and those that are monks and helpers. For the former, untying their ponytails may not be their highest priority, so they will untie them, but later. The latter may be keeping their ponytails for the same reasons Abe is: as a kind of symbolic reminder of the Mudokons’ oppressed history.

AlexFili 03-28-2009 09:59 AM

Isn't the FUD reporter bald?

Jordan 03-28-2009 10:13 AM

Yes, he is. Looks ridiculously funny too. :p

Or maybe that was just mudokon fashion in the nineties.

Quetion:

All mudokons come from Sam. Sam gives all her babies to the Magog Cartle. So where do wild muds come from?

Sanssouci 03-30-2009 06:46 PM

They grow on trees

Wil 03-31-2009 02:16 AM

They are escapees or hatched from stolen eggs.

AlexFili 03-31-2009 02:33 AM

I have a request. Does anyone have any pictures/info about the "Slig Health Chart" or "Slig Status Chart"?

Quetion:

You sure this has been confirmed? As far as I remember, there could still be more queens (though they could also be enslaved by the Glukkons).

Wil 03-31-2009 04:44 AM

The only species that has multiple queens confirmed are Sligs (although Paramites too, probably). Earlier texts had implied (though not stated) that Skillya is the only Slig queen, so possibly the multiple competing Slig queens is a later addition to the mythology. Maybe this means there are more Mudokon queens than Sam, but I suspect there is only one Mudokon queen and one Glukkon queen (not counting those in suspended animation).

AlexFili 03-31-2009 05:44 AM

I also suspect there is only one active queen at one time. However, Mudos is quite a big place, so there could possibly be other queens out there. Either Natively or Industrially.
Paramites also have queens, so there should be quite a few of those too.
