Pft who needs visual stupido when you have open source free alternatives that are just as good or if not better since they're multi platform?
Anyway if anyone has already figured out FG1 format or knows how to play samples from VB/Vab body then please let me know :) Currently I am working on fully reversing the "Anim" format to obtain 100% of sprites from AO. This will likely take me quite a few months though :( Once I have all sprites if anyone is willing to help then I would need someone to go through each animation id and give it a name that identifies what it is such as "slig sleeping" or whatever. For the first iteration of the app I plan on outputting all sprites into one huge sprite sheet which I'm sure someone will find useful. |

By my count there are 16 threads with over a thousand posts. Of them:

So far I've got Anim type 0 and 3 almost working. I've also figured out how to parse the frame table properly. This means that its possible to get the abe running animations since they're type 3 :) I also made my app spit them out at the correct sizes so they shouldn't be all jumpy and buggered like last time!
Looks like its going to be an up hill battle to get all sprites ripped properly though :( So I'm guessing its going to be a few more months before I reach the goal of all Animations being ripped. |
Hang in there. It ought to be worth it for the eternal stream of constant praise from Oddworld fans everywhere.

I think I have all sprite types decompressing now, still got the following todo:
1. Fix the width and height of frames, sometimes its very very wrong :( 2. Figure out how to calculate the offset of each frame to make a smooth animation 3. Clean up the decompiled code 4. Test test test! 5. Generate the god of all sprite sheets with and without frame bounds |
Wait, If you get a torrent of Abe's oddysee or Exoddus, Doesn't that mean you get all the extracted files from it? (Sprites, Animations, Etc...)

Indeed it is for reference, its taken from the AE demo since those are in the same format as AO. The file format is a home made MDEC type compression.. not simple at all.. inverse discrete cosine transform anyone?
