i'm preparing to watch blow film.

Facsimile 01-14-2008 02:55 PM

See I thought the remake of The Shining was nowhere near as good. Different strokes I guess.

And I don't give a shit what they changed from the book in any of the movies, that's not how I rate them.

Disgruntled Intern 01-14-2008 03:04 PM

Well, even if your rating system didn't suck MA's shriveled penis, 1408 would still be considered terrible.

It was bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad.

Read the threads title.

Now try again.

God, I just saw 2001: A space oddysey.

But first a history lesson:

I rarely cry in movies, never am I moved that much by something that I shed tears, however, there are exceptions, some of those being: Thr Iron Giant, Castle In The Sky, and although not techinically a movie, this one episode of the Starship troopers cartoon.

What do these have in common?

Robots, Artificial beings, whatever, anyway, since I was a young lad I always had an interest in robots, from Bender being my favorite character on Futurama (John Dimaggio inspired me to pursue a career in voice acting) to that weird satisfaction I get ( sort of a spoiler so I'll put it in tags) when I see the Iron Giant killing all the soldiers near the end of the movie as the war machine , I always loved 'em.
I also always cried when the Griant got hurt, that Robot in Starship troopers died, and The castle in the Sky drones got blown up.

So, near the end of 2001, as Dave enters the cetral computing chamber and begins his work on HAL, and hearing HAL just go on about being afraid, and how he is, in a way, sorry, I just broke down.

Daisy indeed.

Skillyaslig I told you to use spoiler tags in this thread. If that spoiler isn't in tags by the the time i read this tonight consider your post gone

whats a spoiler tag? Would be nice to have people explain things, instead of getting snapped at.
Plah.
Moving on, saw Saw 4. Rubbish. Waste of time, like the rest of the Saw movies. ><

Actually, I've just seen this film for the first time only the other day, on TCM.

I quite liked it, overall. I'm sure it's a film to grow on you. But yeah, that scene was pretty sad, it was just the utterly calm, childlike voice of HAL what did it. That and the scene goes on forever, like every other scene in the film. :)

What struck me most about the film is just how well it holds up in terms of effects to Modern Stuff. I know people say Star Wars still looks amazing and things, which we all know is crap, but most of this film still looks just fantastic. Apart from the very '60s/'70s sci-fi interiors, but they're a lot of fun.

Bullet Magnet 01-14-2008 09:20 PM

The only films/programs that ever made me cry were Cosmos and Paulie. The latter when the bird was taken away from the girl, since I had a much loved parrot then myself (who actually hated my fully-functional intestines with a passion, but that's another story) and the former from both pure awe and loss.

Disgruntled Intern 01-14-2008 09:53 PM

The iron giant makes me weep every time I watch it.

Try to quote a message with a spoiler tag in it (Like I did) and all will become clear.

Hmmm Bits in movies that have made me cry...

Green Mile: 'You didn't soak the sponge!'.
Shawshank Redemption: Where the old guy hangs himself.
Iron Giant: Same bit you guys are talking about :(
Star Wars I-III: The whole fucking travesty.

Chubfish 01-15-2008 08:53 AM

I just watched Mythbusters on TV, which had a myth about people getting pregnant from eating octopus eggs.

Bullet Magnet 01-15-2008 09:21 AM

How is that even a myth? It's on par with FSM.

Mac Sirloin 01-15-2008 10:45 AM

Yeah, needed a hell of a lot more success.

Disgruntled Intern 01-15-2008 11:20 AM

I think that The Iron Giant was the only movie that vin diesel didn't ruin with his terrible acting.

Watched Bad Boy Bubby last night.
Very... interesting.

Mac Sirloin 01-15-2008 06:12 PM

Just to add to my earlier post.
Remember Digimon? Like, the original Digimon? In the first series?
There was this one villain, 'Puppetmon' and I can't remember what the full story behind him was, but something along the lines of 'him just wanting a friend' was important, because he kidnapped this one guy.

Anyway, he dies, and I cried. a lot. I fucking love robots.

My sister drew a version of it where everyone becomes his friend, I was qiute possibly the happiest little nerd on Earth.

I think I remember that, How he killed his pal Cherrymon, and then he's dying, and the ghost of Cherrymon is like "They had friends, and you didn't."

Cherrymon is a dick.

Leto 01-15-2008 09:51 PM

Digimon was pokemon for gays.

Mon!

I like Iron Giant. I first saw it when I was younger and my father worked at Weta Digital, they got lots of movies before they hit the cinemas here (before every 14 year old boy knew how to torrent etc), and now I just own it on dvd.

Strike Witch 01-15-2008 10:10 PM

I've been watching Kamen Rider Den-O.

Breakdancing Power Ranger is awesome.

Uber-groovy!

I watched the 1931 version of Berlin Alexanderplatz, which is probably my single favourite period/place ever in film (Weimar cinema). The film itself was fine enough, but compared to the 15 hour effort seemed lacking, obviously. More interesting as a historical document of then-contemporary Berlin.

Oh, and Torchwood has just started up again on the telly and surprised me by actually being really rather good.

Bullet Magnet 01-17-2008 06:28 PM

I already miss the blowfish. He was cool.

Leto 01-18-2008 01:09 AM

I just saw Bender's Big Heist. It saddened me, just like the episode with Fry's dog. It was very good however, had some terrible unfunny moments mind you.

The Hypno Toad's appearance made it all worth while.

The episode about Fry's dog actually made me cry. Well, the ending did, atleast.

Facsimile 01-18-2008 04:49 PM

I just watched that a week or so ago, and I didn't think it was sad as everyone else did. Maybe it was because I went into it knowing it was supposed to be sad or something, I'm not sure.

Daxter King 01-18-2008 07:50 PM

Cloverfield. Wonderfully well done film, best of 2008 so far, of course that doesn't give it much credit. The movie is the perfect length, doesn't drag it out at all, but still gets the job done. There are some edge of your seat moments, though they are few. The monster is great, and the parasites that come off of it are worse than any kind of critters on earth. The camera shaking gets annoying at times, but it is still a good job. Not many shots of the monster, but near the end, you see alot of it. If you're looking for a straight up monster film, all about the monster, you will probably be disappointed. If you're just looking for an excellent film, this is your ticket, go see it, now.

Disgruntled Intern 01-18-2008 09:22 PM

What. The. Fuck.

Why can't you tards seem to figure out the spoiler tags? Minor or major, a spoiler is a spoiler is a spoiler.

Jesus christ.

I was like that for the episode about Fry's lucky clover and his nephew.

Strike Witch 01-19-2008 03:07 AM

Saw Cloverfield.

Was kiiiinda good, but watching some out-of-their-element New Yorkers get chased by *SPOILERS* in shakey-cam gets to you.

Good atmosphere though, however the average Godzilla movie does a better job at monsters, in terms of originality.
