If you think what MM did was bad, someone even went as far as to make a mod for Skyrim, before steam workshop tools were released. This changed the troll sounds to the popular russian song, and also changed the texture of the face. It was crap. Heh.

Oh, and I got into PC Gamer again by accident, this time for picking up on a minor stylistic anomaly on their 'suggested plays' page.

That Potal 2 beta intro looks epic, I wonder why they didn't end up using it.

Yeah I agree, that does look better, but sadly, like a lot of games, some things are changed which ends up making them worse. My favourite example being Blur, the video below shows a very early version of the game, if they kept the game like this, then it would have been perfect, but the final version was totally different and is shit compared to the early version.

Epic, yes. Cool, yes. But developers shouldn't include stuff just because it's epic and cool. The intro that made it in to the game introduces you to Wheatley, gives you a subtle explanation of what's been happening in the time since Portal 1 and demonstrates the decrepitude of Aperture.


I suspect that the intro shown in that video was from the point in Portal 2's development where they intended the protagonist to be a new character and not Chell.

Ah, I remember that. You can see at the end how they downsized it from A2.5 to A3. Steve Bell (the cartoonist responsible for the caricature of Bush and Blair in the middle) then proceeded to run a series of strips featuring a load of hysterical penguins flipping out over how their world wouldn't stop shrinking.

I've watched this a hundred times over the years, and it never gets any less funny.
