Just did 80 laps of the Beginner course on Daytona USA,
I came first, took me about 24 minutes. |
In mere moments I will be playing the Mass Effect 3 beta that was accidentally leaked to 360 Dashboard beta people. SO EXCITED
|
What?
How was it accidentally leaked to the dashboard!? |
Voxatron is really cool. It looks really nice when things start exploding and voxels start flying around. A multiplayer mode would work really well. I'm yet to start dicking around with the level editor.
The Binding of Isaac is really cool. I can see it appealing to the OCD 100%er in me. The gameplay is really nice and I like the character upgrade system so far. I can't find the radioactive spider I was promised, though >:( I can see what MM means about Asteroids-style shooter, too. I fought 3 different bosses that split into smaller versions of themselves after taking damage in 30mins. |
One thing confuses me:
The Blinding of Issac or The Binding of Isaac? Which is it? It's driving me nuts! |
The Binding of Isaac, which is based off of a biblical story given the same name.
|
Ironically, the Midrash* says that the Binding of Isaac inadvertently resulted in the Blinding of Isaac.
*Essentially biblical fan fiction by rabbis. |
Oh, yeah. I must have been misreading it. I knew it was a Biblical story but I assumed it was just some sinner who got his eyes gouged out because God is into that sort of thing.
Also there's a lot of eye-based imagery in that game, what with shooting tears, Issac with his eyes screwed shut, Cain missing one, and practically all the enemies having their eyes either sewn shut or absent from bloody sockets. Oh and @Phylum Fistula (that enemy that splits into maggots... or were you talking about Envy*?) isn't really what I meant, more the whole weaving-circlestrafing-firing at moving targets nature of the thing. Look at something like Geometry Wars and replace the spaceship with a crying child and you get the idea. *Brimstone makes that boss laughably easy (Brimstone turns tears into Monstro/Gluttony's blood beam). EDIT: :
RE-EDIT: As for Issac =/= Isaac... I dunno, you don't see that many double-a's in English. |
Sonic Generations. Modern Sonic's gameplay is actually very enjoyable now. I'm so glad it isn't like Sonic Unleashed, which was ridiculously unforgiving. Classic Sonic's gameplay is also awesome, not exactly the same as the Mega Drive games (no complaints!) but it's fun. Overall it's fucking amazing!
|
Oh, so good to hear. So, is it the comeback the Blue Blur deserves?
|
Definitely. Did him far more justice than Sonic 4 did. *Shudders*
|
Machinarium. Took so much less time to play now that I know how to do everything, although I had left it long enough that I had to work out most of the puzzles again.
|
Sonic 4 is a masterpiece compared to Sonic 06...Ugh. btw Sonic CD is getting an HD update (audio included) yaaaaaaay
|
You know what was the worst Sonic game? The kinect surfing one.
|
Worse than a human princess whose tears cause the apocalypse kissing a dead hedgehog?
|
I'm upto the Roxas fight in KH2FM. He's hard. He has the speed of Marluxia and the ruthless attack style of Larxene. I'm going to have to go away level grind before I can even think about beating him. I'm only a few levels off of Second Chance, so after I learn that I can hopefully beat some Absent Silhouettes. I'm close to beating Marluxia, but his attacks have a tendency to one-hit-ko me at full health.
The Mushroom XIII are super-hard. They're going to be challenging regardless of my level, especially the one reminiscent of a Rare Truffle from KH1. I can almost clear one that involves reflecting attacks, but I'm far to weak to scratch the others. I've obtained a few really weak items from a some of them, but scoring a few more points is simply out of the question for the moment. The Cavern of Remembrance seems fairly good, but I haven't been able to explore it much. The Heartless are all absurdly strong and you need growth abilities such as glide, which I'm yet to learn. |
The worst Sonic game is Sonic and the Black Knight. And I personally loathe Sonic Heroes.
|
If there is any doubt that Sonic 2006 is not the worst game, please consult this video (skip to 0:47 to avoid intro):
|
The B(l)inding of I(s)saac soundtrack on Audiosurf.
Strangely haunting, the calmer tracks are almost entirely red but with little traffic. The twists and bends and the glowing orange almost seem like your little rocket car is descending into Sheol itself. |
Sonic and the black knight and sonic heroes are PLAYABLE at least. In fact, they are relatively glitchless. But as Oddhunter showed, Sonic 06 is only vaguely playable, and when it's not being glitched out, it is a frustrating mess of a game, with badly wrought controls and some of the worst level design I have ever seen. What's worse, is that even the few seconds where it's fun, when youre running full speed, confidently hopping and bopping in pure sonic form, suddenly boom:You just hit an enemy. three feet to your right. Because the collision detection is absolute shite. I tried-tried soooo hard to like this game-and it is impossible.
Heroes is shit, but it's playable and at least charming. And Black knight was well made, even if the sword combat feels weird. Not good, but alright. Personally, I really enjoyed Unleashed. It was filled to the brim with effort, even if the werehog thing is just too stupid to live. My favorites are still Sonic 3 and knuckles, Sonic CD and both Sonic Adventures games.(especially both SA's.) But generations looks kickass, and I missed the ol' fatass classic Sonic. lol |
Sonic Unleashed is so frustrating. I can't stress how much that game pisses me off. Sonic goes far too fast for the player to be able to react and you can't actually do a level well until you've played it at least 10 times. (Exaggeration) Also, drifting. Fuck's sake that mechanic is so broken.
|
I guess I just got used to it quickly, xP but yeah, his speed was ridiculous. But from what I've played of the Generations demo, that's still true. The game does feel right though-i havn't been able to mess with it, but can you spin dash?
|
:
A lot of the later levels like to screw you (fucking Arid Sands), but some are also pretty damn fun if you know what you’re doing. Jungle Joyride Act 1 is a good example – it’s difficult as fuck if you aren’t up to it, but if you are it makes for an exhilarating level. Something to remember is that the game doesn’t want you to boost as often as possible – a lot of people try and boost all the time and then complain when they career off a cliff. |
I think it's hard to distinguish when you need to boost and when you don't. Some levels were stunning I have to admit, but when you mess up a lot it takes the fun away. And no you can't spindash.
|
Plus, am I the only one who thought(at least the daytime stages) were fucking stunning, visually? And wtf. The spindash is a Sonic staple. At least the homing attack no longer requires pressing square after jumping-that fucked me up in unleashed. It's the only one with that control scheme, I believe. xP

I played Abe's Oddysee for the first time in ages, and I can remember why I used to play it so much. The return to Rupturefarms via the free-fire zone has to be one of my favorite levels in terms of its atmosphere, because it does exactly what it is supposed to, and whilst that slig posted on the bridge at the end is there out of necessity, it really establishes the whole scene (in my opinion, even more than all the bombs they've put out there to trap you).
Some of the zulags still bore the fuck out of me, though. The best parts are the parts between the sections where you've got to "collect" the flint locks and all that kind of stuff. |
Still such a gorgeous game too. The fmv's still stand up well, unlike most ps1 games, with the exception of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, FF VIII, FF IX, and a rew others.
|
The way the game looks and feels to me is more incentive than the actual gameplay to play it. I enjoy the mechanics of it, but when I play it now, I'm more interested in what's going on around Abe as opposed to what I'm doing with Abe as a player.
|
Same here, in fact I often get frustrated with the gameplay. Exoddus was a better game, but not as good or atmospheric a story.
|
:
I've been playing mine on a big ol' HDTV though, and it looks like one giant jpeg artifact. I'm playing Exoddus, too. Had to do the Mudomo and Mudanchee trials all over again because I didn't save after them and before Feeco, and now the game won't let me switch discs. EDIT: Installed a snazzy SNES emulator on my PSP, been playing the first three Megaman X games as well as Earthbound. MMX3 can stick a dick with that buffalo bill boss. |
I loved Monsaic Lines, last time I played AO was a few weeks ago and I just put a cheat in the PS1 to go straight to ML, once I completed the level I just turned it off. Ahhhh.
|
Lord of the Rings War in the North. I'm biased since I grew up on the series and still love it to this day, but we're having fun with it. Good couch co-op. The fact that our unplayed/used character that's being driven by AI sucks so much and is good for nothing other than taking damage makes me assume that the singleplayer aspect is probably pretty terrible, and really...why only 3 characters? I can only imagine how great it would be with 4.

Also Free-fire Zone. I got stuck in the Stockyards for so long... |
My favorite bit in the whole game is that paramite chase scene-so frantic and intense. I loved the shadows there too, like Frank Miller worked on that part. lol
Also, I'm replaying one of my favorite games of all time, Brave Fencer Musashi for ps1. This and Megaman Legends made my childhood, lol |
Seriously, guys. This is not a 'Which is your favourite bit in AO?' thread. We've had a tonne of them over the years. This thread is for what game you're playing now.
|
I've been failing at DDR Universe 2 for the past two days. Not really getting better at it. Still pretty fun though.
I should play through the Missing Link DLC for DX:HR before Skyrim comes out, but not sure if I want to. I kind of want to save it for a rainy day when I really don't have anything to do. :p I'm pretty much done with Arkham City, just finishing up some of the sidemissions on New Game Plus to get 100% complete in both story modes. Some of the challenges are way too hard for me, I'm going to try them later. |
I'm still finding all the riddles, I've gotten three hostages thus far. I've finished everything else, besides challenge maps and my newgame+
|
One thing I will say is that don't get your hopes up for the final hostage(s) a.k.a. the Riddler encounter. It's nothing major.
|
Another Penguin uppercut? xP
