I tested out the Bulletstorm and Crysis 2 demos and I liked 'em both. Bulletstorm is just crazy fun and Crysis 2 is a lot like Halo/CoD but better. I might get both!

Phylum 01-27-2011 01:37 AM

I played 3 hours of Braid today. I found at least 10 puzzle pieces, so now only 2 remain. They are both in the last world and they're both fucking bastards to get.

One of them involves guiding 2 Goombas (or whatever they're called) through a path of Pirranah Plants using the ring to ensure they don't get chomped. The other is a real bastard located in the area with the 2 green-outlining platforms and the switch operated falling ladder. I'm equally fed up with both puzzles.

Yeah, those puzzles took me longer than any other, simply because you need to get everything so completely perfect. I loved Braid on the whole, but the small number of puzzles that counted more on timing than logical thinking got on my nerves.

There's a secret star on the level with the falling ladder, and if you think the puzzle pieces in that level are tough, hoooooooly shit is that star hard to get. Even after beating The Kid levels on Super Meat Boy, I still see my greatest video game achievement as getting that fucking star.

Dynamithix 01-28-2011 07:29 AM

I bought Raskulls from XBLA for 800MSP and I love the game! It's a racing-platformer I'd say, but there are some puzzle elements in some levels.

It's really great and it's gotten mixed reviews that vary from 6/10 to 10/10 or 5 stars. Personally, I think it's worth a solid 9 out of 10, it has great humor, funny and cute characters, local and Xbox Live multiplayer, Megaquest (the campaign), grand prix and quick race -modes and a lot more.

Also, if you have ilomilo you get the red ilomilo guy as a playable character, cool!

Definitely try out the trial game at least, you may like it!

OANST 01-28-2011 07:32 AM

I hated it. I downloaded the demo, played a few levels, said "This is terrible", and deleted it.

MeechMunchie 01-28-2011 08:24 AM

Playing Magicka. It's buggy, the controls are unresponsive, my framerate is about as fast as a glacier on crutches, and it crashed when I was barely out of the tutorial, but I don't care. The gameplay is so compelling that I'm shelling out for the special edition without question. I love this game and I haven't even completed a proper level yet. It's Diablo meets Doodle God meets Extreme Typing.

Well, you hate a lot of things, bitch.

OANST 01-28-2011 08:29 AM

There really aren't that many games that I hate. I'm pretty forgiving of flaws in video games, especially in games made by small indie teams. I just plain thought the game was the exact opposite of fun. I let Abbey try it, and she didn't like it either, so I deleted the shit out of it.

Dynamithix 01-28-2011 08:33 AM

It is your opinion, but what was so bad in it? All my friends tried it out and they liked it and other people seem to like it as well.

OANST 01-28-2011 08:39 AM

The humor was trite, and forced, but I didn't really care about that. I was happy to look beyond that if it had decent gameplay. But the gameplay is merely run Run RUN RUN RUN RUN IT'S A PUZZLE NO DON'T STOP RUN RUN JUST SHOOT THROUGH THE PUZZLE RUN NOOOO DON'T STOP AND THINK ABOUT THE PUZZLE IT'S NOT REALLY A PUZZLE JUST RUN THROUGH IT HURRY GOGOGOGOGOGO.

I didn't like that.

Dynamithix 01-28-2011 08:43 AM

In the later levels, there are more real puzzle levels, not all hurry-go-go levels. And what did you expect from a racing-platformer?

Mac Sirloin 01-28-2011 08:51 AM

Racing platformers are almost always shit.

FACT

OANST 01-28-2011 08:54 AM

All I know is that a game that fast-paced shouldn't be as boring as it is.

Dynamithix 01-28-2011 08:55 AM

goddammit it aint boring grarrarrrr

Fine, I think it's great, my friends like it, the end. I'm half through Chapter 2 in it now.

OANST 01-28-2011 08:57 AM

Ilomilo was really cool. I keep forgetting to finish it.

Manco 01-28-2011 12:27 PM

Posting this in the right thread this time hey

I dug out my old PSOne collection a few days ago after not having any way to play them in years; I've been enjoying the shit out of the old Spyro games.

I'd agree with this if I hadn't played Carmageddon on the PsOne.

Dynamithix 01-28-2011 12:35 PM

Spyro, woo! I remember that there was a funny 'cheat' in Crash Bash that if you pressed start and some buttons in the menu, you could play some Spyro demo or something else, haha.

If I remember right, Crash 3 had a hidden Spyro 3 demo and Spyro 3 had a hidden Crash 3 demo.

Incidentally, the Crash series is next on my list after the Spyro series. It's a real shame both franchises went to shit after they left PSOne.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 12:45 PM

Ahhh yes, PS1 games. I've got some real crap for that console sitting in my room, like Monsters Inc., a really repetative Buzz Lightyear game and some good stuff like Rayman 1, 2 and Rush, plus Crash 1-3 and CTR and Spyro 1-3. Good times.

Manco 01-28-2011 12:49 PM

I hold that Crash Team Racing is the best cart racing game ever made, bar none.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 12:52 PM

I can agree with that. I it had hidden characters that I didn't even know about for years and everything. They were DAMN hard to unlock.
Fuck Mariokart. CTR is the best kart racer ever.
EDIT: It's the best PS1 game ever.

Dixanadu 01-28-2011 12:56 PM

Rayman was good before the rabbits took over.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 01:15 PM

'Tis true. There is this though:

I spent forever trying to find a way to unlock the final boss as a playable character, but it turns out it's not possible.

Kind of surprising, considering how pretty much every other character in the series thus far was playable in that game.

I just looked it up to check and you CAN unlock that dude. Holy fuck, my childhood memories of perfecting that game are RUINED.

EDIT: Okay, so that's not true - you can unlock him via cheating, but that's it. Childhood restored.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 01:21 PM

There, there, it's ok, it'll all be fine.

Dixanadu 01-28-2011 01:28 PM

It's been a very long time since I've played it, but I remember unlocking some, if not all, characters.

I'm trying hard...first unlockable character was some sort of deranged, fox-like animal, right? The second was this rather sinister looking fellow.

That's all I got.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 01:32 PM

Little vague there. If the first guy you're on about was blue it was Ripper Roo, if not it was probably Pinstripe. The second one is probably Papu Papu.

Dixanadu 01-28-2011 01:34 PM

Ah, I remember! Yes, Ripper Roo was the first.

Pinstripe rings a bell, but I'm not sure. Everything's foggy...I think he was a reptilian-looking creature.

Papu-Papu was some kind of bear/ape or something.

Pinstripe was a Potoroo (rat-like thing) mutated into a Mafia-style character.

Papu-Papu was the fat tribe chieftain.

I could reel off all the other characters if you want, they're engrained pretty well into my memory.

Wings of Fire 01-28-2011 01:38 PM

Oh god the memories are flooding back. Fuck you guys.

N. Gin was always the coolest.

But Pinstripe was still...sinister looking/sounding right? If so, then yeah. Second character I unlocked, then Papu-Papu.

Yes, indulge me with the others.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 01:49 PM

There was Penta Penguin, some weird character that was introduced for CTR and never seen again. Komodo Joe was one of the bosses and was some sort of green lizard/dragon thing. N. Tropy was a wierd man with clocks all over his body. And obviously N. Oxide, the green alien and main boss.

Dixanadu 01-28-2011 01:51 PM

Never heard of any of those, save for Komodo Joe.

God damn, I got the urge to play it again. Fuckkkkkkkkkk

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 01:53 PM

N. Tropy was in Crash 3 as well.

Dynamithix 01-28-2011 01:54 PM

I remember these baddies from Crash games:

- Dingodile
- Koala Kong
- Komodo Twins, Joe & Moe (Those guys were hardcore)
- Papu Papu
- Uka Uka
- Ripper Roo
- Cortex
- Pinstripe Potaroo (That last name isn't probably the correct one)
- Tiny the muthafuckin' Tiger
- N. Gin
- Doctor Brio (something like that)
- Nitrous Oxide (Crash Bash's final boss if I remember correctly...)
- Dr. Nefarus Tropy (??? that time doctor guy from Crash 3.)
- Those evil alien guys from Crash Nitro Kart, they were Emperor Velo, Zem and Zom I guess.

Yes, indulge me with the others.

From memory, CTR's character roster:

Good Characters
Crash: Main guy from the series, you should know him.
Coco: Crash's sister, blonde hair.
Polar: A polar bear and Crash's pet.
Pura: A tiger and Coco's pet.

Evil Characters
Cortex: Evil scientist with a giant yellow head.
N. Gin: Evil scientist with a rocket embedded in his skull.
Tiny: A muscular evil tiger.
Dingodile: Half dingo, half crocodile.

Bosses
Ripper Roo: Crazy blue kangaroo in a straitjacket.
Papu-Papu: Fat tribe chieftain.
Komodo Joe: Ninja lizard I guess? Wears purple, likes swords.
Pinstripe: Mafia/gangster-styled rat thing.
Nitros Oxide: Evil crazy alien dude.

Secret
N. Tropy: Evil time-travelling cyborg scientist.

After checking, the only one I missed was Fake Crash: Duplicate of Crash with weird teeth and eyebrows.

EDIT: Looks like there's others you can unlock via code, including Penta Penguin, but I'm not sure if some of those are hoaxes.

OANST 01-28-2011 01:55 PM

I never liked Crash Bandicoot. I thought the games were boring, and poorly made.

Elmatto753 01-28-2011 01:58 PM

Oxide was in Bash too, I remember now. It's N. Brio, like embryo. And Crash Bash had Rilla Roo, who was a rather chunky monkey and was also never seen again.

EDIT: Poorly made, yes, boring, hell no.
