There's a huge fanbase of that show, and I have absoutely no idea why. Most of the ones I know are 16 year old girls who think every doctor is the hottest man alive.

I just don't get it.

Strike Witch 01-12-2008 09:54 PM

I like Dr Who, not fangirlishly though.

I just like the rediculous aliens that at least try not to be Startrek Foreheadians of the Week.

Plus, the Doctor is sometimes pretty funny, and my mum loves it, so meh. It's something we can both watch.

Bullet Magnet 01-12-2008 09:57 PM

There's also the fear of the Daleks, which is culturally inherited.

Strike Witch 01-12-2008 09:59 PM

True.

And now they can bloody climb Stairs.

We're so screwed.

OddjobAbe 01-12-2008 11:17 PM

I've recently been watching and re-watching the old Blackadder series. They were indeed excellent. If you haven't seen them, they're certainly worth watching, the box set should be in any HMV. I got it over here for about £30.

You misunderstand me; I love Doctor Who and would leave my metaphorical shoes under David Tennant's metaphorical bed any day. I was referring to that one episode in particular, which everyone seemed to hate.

I thought Requim for a Dream felt like a movie for teens who want to be alternative and watch something about drugs.

While there's definitely a "I like Darren Aronofsky flicks, so I am cool' factor, I really enjoyed Requiem. Then again, I wasted a large chunk of time using the drug the movie revolved around, so I could relate to a lot of the film and characters.

The book is orgasmic. Hubert Selby Jr. was way ahead of the curve when he wrote that.

I haven't seen it yet but you're pretty much the first person I've heard who thought it was any good. But then maybe you're being ironic; I can never tell.

I liked it. Good old trashy flashy tv.

Ah, see what you mean there. Also a reason why everyone loves Fear and Loathing etc

I'm alone again. :( Even my family likes Doctor Who and I can't see why outside of Billy Piper.

Hobo 01-13-2008 11:49 AM

Mmmmm Billy Piper.

OANST 01-13-2008 11:50 AM

I hated what little of Dr. Who I've seen. I hope that makes you feel better.

You should hang out with my sister; she can't even be convinced to watch The Girl in the Fireplace; one of the finest hours of television ever produced - deus ex machina ending notwithstanding.

I personally didn't care for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I think Where the Buffalo Roam was a way better representation of Hunter S. as a person.

I thought most of series two was the biggest waste of money the BBC had ever spent. I think series three was a massive improvment, and is the best series we've had. Yet I've often been told to shut the fuck up when it comes to that, because series two was the best yet.

Wings of Fire 01-13-2008 01:11 PM

I just watched the film/TV version of The Stand and it's depressingly inferior and untrue to the book in just about every single possible way although Flagg, admittedly, rocked and was oddly erotic. :( The two best Steven King movies are still The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption.

OANST 01-13-2008 01:16 PM

Yeah, King movies generally suck.

Astaroth Gregorium 01-13-2008 01:18 PM

I've seen an anime version of the powerpuff girls.

Surprisingly hot :tard:

Nope, not ironic. I thought it was really terrific. Big, brash, stupid Christmas fun.

I agree that's a fantastic, witty episode, but for me 'Gridlock' is DW's finest hour. One of the most unusually structured 'stories' ever ever. Just stunning, gorgeous stuff. So weird, quirky, heart-warming.

Just doing my job, Ma'am.

skillyaslig 01-13-2008 05:51 PM

I saw Little Miss Sunshine in the weekend. It was quite funny, and strange.
*SPOILERS, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED THE GORRAM MOVIE!*

I found it extremely funny when their grandpa dies, and they then smuggle him out of the hospital through the window, then that cop pulls them over. lol, dead old man in yer trunk 'Its not Illegal!' bwhaha, that was funny! Even with their VW, how they all had to push it to make it go, and they keept on running over things cause they couldn't Stop XD

:( The two best Steven King movies are still The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption.

The Green Mile movie is but a pale imitation of the book, which itself is a pale imitation of what it should have been. It was wonderful when it was talking about life and times on death row but just turned silly every time things went mystical and magical. It would have been a far finer novel if he'd kept it in the real world, like with Shawshank.

Hobo 01-14-2008 12:21 AM

Skillyaslig I told you to use spoiler tags in this thread. If that spoiler isn't in tags by the the time i read this tonight consider your post gone

Um, The Shining and 1408?

Shawshank is amazing though.

Disgruntled Intern 01-14-2008 06:26 AM

1408 was garbage!

The short story? Genuinely scary.

The movie?

Genuinely shitty.

Um, The Shining and 1408?

Shawshank is amazing though.

The only redeeming part of The Shining is Jack Nicholson.

It rapes the book completely, some characters die when they shouldn't, whole plot devices are missed out and that woman (Jack's wife, can't think of her name) is generally terrifying to behold. I watched the movie before reading the book and I'd have to say the experience wasn't spoilt for me one bit because for all intents and purposes they are different stories. Stanley Kubrich even left out the little 'Rarr look at me I am Satan the manager of this hotel at the end

Disgruntled Intern 01-14-2008 11:34 AM

Did you see the Re-Make?

I liked it a lot. They really did an amazing job on the Bathtub/Bathroom scene.

OANST 01-14-2008 12:18 PM

The remake was a better movie with a lower quality of acting. Much like the two Dune movies.
