The Misfits and The Walking Dead have been on for a while and both have been utterly flawless.

I highly reccomend both.

I have also been watching Fringe and House, both once again being brilliant.

Yeah we still use carriages. The White Ribbon is a Science Fiction movie in Austria.

OANST 12-06-2010 09:33 AM

Horses haven't been invented yet either? Jesus Christ, you people are backwards!

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 11:51 AM

I saw Cop Out a while ago.

It was 'Meh' for most of the time.

One funny reference was when one of the cops acts during an interrogation and says "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker" and Bruce Willis' role says "Don't know that one"

OANST 12-06-2010 12:47 PM

Boy, howdy. That does sound funny.

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 01:24 PM

I know. It was so fun.

OANST 12-06-2010 01:32 PM

It sounds really fun.

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 07:31 PM

It really was. Fun.

Sekto Springs 12-07-2010 01:52 PM

Watched the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake out of curiosity. It was shit. Really shit.
I don't care what kind of geeky fandom Jack Earle Haley has garnered, he was a terrible Freddy.
The only thing I liked about it was the new glove design, which was pretty cool.

OANST 12-07-2010 01:53 PM

Because the other films were good?

Sekto Springs 12-07-2010 01:55 PM

Is that sarcastic rhetoric or are you asking an actual question? I can never tell with you.

Dynamithix 12-07-2010 01:59 PM

Sekto, didn't you just looove Freddy's completely original one-liners? I sure did.

Sekto Springs 12-07-2010 02:00 PM

In the new one or in general?
Classic Freddy cracked out some gems, I'll tell ya. New Freddy not so much.

Dynamithix 12-07-2010 02:02 PM

Of course I meant the new one. I thought Freddy was horrible in the new one and I thought he looked like a potato/alien.

Sekto Springs 12-07-2010 02:07 PM

Agreed.
Jack Earle Haley's facial structure didn't work with the character. He didn't look sinister, just goofy.
He gets points for trying to bring his own interpretation of the character to the table, but on the whole, he wasn't up to the task of stepping into the shoes of such an iconic horror hero. Robert Englund is Freddy, and no one else can replace him.

Dynamithix 12-08-2010 08:27 AM

word.

MA 12-08-2010 08:56 AM

i love the original Freddy films.

Nope.

Watched a 'Making of...' interview about the new Nightmare On Elm Street. Robert Englund expounded in great detail on a dossier/character profile he created for Freddy, a great detailed document pertaining to every single reason why Freddy does what he does.

Jackie Earle Haley said "I wanted him to just be evil."

I thought that Haley's face fit rather well. It was very lizardlike, though not at all Freddy.

But seriously, the movie was total garbage. The old ones you can enjoy ironically or out of genuine appreciation for horror, anyone who thought there was anything redeemable about this shoddy remake can go choke on a stack of Paranormal Activity.

Robert Englund is Freddy, and no one else can replace him.

This is the exact kind of attitude that gets people like JEH into these roles.
There are plenty of more than capable actors who would fit into the role of Freddy in our modern day (Like Micheal Cera). What bogged this one down more than anything was the shitty script and feculent cast.

I'd like to see a Nightmare movie with Nicholas Cage. Shit would be so cash.

OANST 12-08-2010 09:04 AM

I didn't see it.

I also have never seen any of the other ones.

The other ones are as you'd expect: silly Horror from a time when silly Horror was frightening.

What really gets my goat is that in every single new Slasher film (let's say...2003 onward) the Protagonists never survive. Never. Sometimes they'll make it allll the way to the end, and then pop! Antagonist wasn't dead. That's like pulling the rug out from somebody and saying that you didn't trip them, it was the carpet.

That was actually a terrible analogy but you get my frustration. It's wonderful.

Sekto Springs 12-08-2010 12:08 PM

One of the things that made the originals so memorable was how surreal the horror was. I mean, Freddy is an eldritch abomination that can manipulate dreamscapes ffs. That's pretty tits. Turning into a giant snake and devouring people, gorging a girl on rotten food until she's distended and chokes on her own vomit, and using a kid's tendons and ligaments to make marionette strings so he can control him like a puppet just to name a few of Freddy's famous hallucinogenic murders.

If you take the movies at face value then you may not like them. Plenty of new wave synths and outdated special fx to go around, and by about the third one they had completely jumped the shark and made Freddy a cartoonish pun factory. Your mileage may vary, but I haven't met a single person who's seen them and didn't like them to some extent.

Nate 12-10-2010 03:33 AM

Finally saw Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and thought it was fucking brilliant. And I don't explete casually.

One thing though; it's not really a boy-meets-girl story. It's a story about breakups. Many, many breakups. And I'm meeting my ex for coffee tomorrow. So that felt kinda wierd.

MA 12-10-2010 03:37 AM

i saw my mother kissing Santa Claus.

Nate 12-10-2010 03:53 AM

Was there tongue?

MA 12-10-2010 04:01 AM

it was getting a little further than that. but don't worry, i hit him over the head with a lead pipe.

sorry, kids.

Nate 12-10-2010 04:03 AM

Did you steal his... I was going to say 'sack', but I'm sure that 'round here that would be interpretted as a pun. His toy-carrier?

MA 12-10-2010 04:06 AM

nothing but cigarettes and cheap booze. fucking fraud.

on an unrelated note, i'm selling an authentic Santa suit and some fresh reindeer meat. drop me a line if you want some.

OANST 12-10-2010 06:25 AM

THIS IS SPAM GUYS!

That would be a good name for sketch comedy show.

Now we just need to make one. Half of the conversations we have here would be pretty wacky in real life.

Saw Four Lions. Surprisingly tasteful.

Dynamithix 12-12-2010 10:32 AM

I watched Deep Blue Sea yesterday, I've seen it three times now. It's not that good, but it's not that bad either so meh. It was funny how stupid some of the scenes were.

T-nex 12-12-2010 11:20 AM

I watched 'Another 9 ½ weeks' with my sister, in the belief that it was the first movie... I didn't even know a sequel existed. But oh well. it contained boobies, so all is well. The story made no sense at all though, or maybe I just didn't get it.
First one is bizarre and weird and so is the second one, and is one of those really limit-pushing movies about certain relationship dynamics.

I also tried to make her watch The Dark Crystal with me. I've never watched it myself before this.
But of course she couldn't take it seriously cos it was a puppet movie, and was laughing her ass off the first third of the movie X_x
Then I watched the rest by myself. I actually liked it. It was a sweet fantasy movie, and I don't think the effects seemed lame at all. So yea.. Good movie =)

scrabface 12-13-2010 04:28 PM

I have just seen Science with Ricky Gervais. And I was kinda bored and disappointed. The second half was def better, when he started with spiders and how they always seem to be ready. and when he came up with this pedophile joke, it was great how the audience fell silence. although the punch line wasn't that great, the joke fully worked and had his effect.

Emesdee 12-13-2010 08:47 PM

Saw the new version of The Crazies. Overall I found it more enjoyable than the Romero original, which was a bit of a disappointment. Though this movie's "shocker" scene didn't pack quite the punch.

STM 12-14-2010 09:13 AM

Saw Marble Hornets, pretty cool for an amateur horror flick!

Phylum 12-14-2010 02:54 PM

I saw HP7 yesterday. It was ok. The Nagini attack was intense. They weren't affraid to sacrifice clarity for a really fucking fast moving snake.

Sadly, they spent too much time doing nothing.

All in all it was good, but I won't be seeing it again.

Did you think we wouldn't notice that you'd posted the exact same thing twice?

Wings of Fire 12-14-2010 09:40 PM

Three times actually.

I forgot how I worded it last time so I had to go back to OANST watching it and check.
