The measurements indicate the problem. When Molluck is two-thirds again as tall as Abe, you know something isn't right.

Wil 08-10-2012 03:24 AM

If we say Mudokons are six foot, Kintos are 5 foot.

JayDee 08-10-2012 05:26 AM

Thanks again :)

Bullet Magnet 08-10-2012 10:20 AM

It struck me that by estimating Abe's height we could calculate his running speed. Coupled with his ability to maintain that speed indefinitely, we can work out which Olympic running events he would have won, if any.

I'm thinking marathon definitely. I'd need to calculate the for the track events.

Of course, he'd lose long jump by about six meters.

JayDee 08-10-2012 10:29 AM

With the Grenades he throws, perhaps Shot putt as well?

E: From what we saw in Munch's Oddysee we can forget about any Water sports.

STM 08-10-2012 10:36 AM

We don't know enough about his muscle distribution or weight to make any such claims. Really, BM, you call yourself a scientist.

Bullet Magnet 08-10-2012 11:45 AM

Speed equals distance multiplied by time.

STM 08-10-2012 12:45 PM

...Yes, yes it does.

JayDee 08-10-2012 12:48 PM

Yeah, if we take abe's height to be 6 feet we can use that to work out the approximate length of a screen, have him run through the screen now you know the approximate length of it and time it. Genius. :o

STM 08-10-2012 01:38 PM

Speed equals distance multiplied by time.

I thought Speed equals |D/T|. D is distance and T is time.

Bullet Magnet 08-10-2012 04:49 PM

FFS, you're right.

Phylum 08-10-2012 05:18 PM

Well, Vave is S/T. Does Abe actually accelerate?

If we knew the gravity on Oddworld couldn't we calculate the air resistance of a mudukon based on Abe's terminal velocity?

Nate 08-10-2012 05:46 PM

You're all nerds and you sicken me.

MeechMunchie 08-10-2012 06:26 PM

I'm incredibly aroused.

Since Oddworld is 10 times the size of Earth and the acceleration due to gravity on Earth is 9.8m/s^2. Would the acceleration due to gravity on Oddworld be 9.8m/s^2*10 or 98m/s^2?

Phylum 08-13-2012 02:01 AM

That would assume that the density is the same. Size /= mass.

Bullet Magnet 08-13-2012 02:54 AM

It's been discussed at length before, but no one really knows if the diameter, volume or surface area is ten times that of Earth. Each one is a different size.

Nate 08-13-2012 05:47 AM

It's surface area.

Bullet Magnet 08-13-2012 06:08 PM

Ah, Nate knows. How does Nate know?

Damn, I wish this hadn't been brought up. Every time I think of it my mind reels with the consequences, and each time it leads to an uninhabitable planet. Even without a gravity problem.

AAAARGH

Nate 08-14-2012 04:59 AM

There is an answer. It is coming soon.

Bullet Magnet 08-14-2012 06:38 AM

Is it, though?

Nate 08-14-2012 07:18 AM

It's edited, marked up and uploaded online. We're just waiting on Lorne to clarify a few details and then it'll be posted publically.

Here's a question: Does Wil now know the full story of the Quintology, and if he does will he every admit it?

Manco 08-15-2012 10:41 AM

Wil has discovered the terrifying truth about Nod’s role in the story. He will never divulge that information to save us all from certain despair.

Spaniardgod12 08-23-2012 04:23 PM

So what will oddworld be like is it going to be the same game with the same cutscenes, or will there be new gameplay?

Nepsotic 08-23-2012 07:06 PM

It's a grounds up (:tard:)remake.

Asmoden 08-31-2012 07:31 AM

While reading the oddworld artbook i noticed in the hand of odd logo they have put wasps instead of bees.

I know they probably alredy noticed this...maybe it's just me being an apiarist, but was that made on purpose?

STM 08-31-2012 07:41 AM

Wait...you're an apiarist too?

You have to be removed.

Maybe Oddworld's bees look like Earth's wasps.

Like in stranger you mean?
Maybe but i don't like it.:fuzconf:

STM 08-31-2012 12:43 PM

To be fair they look somewhat similar to the Africanised varieties of Earth. (Apis MellifersandA. m. Scutellata)

Cloudman 09-06-2012 02:48 PM

I've got a few questions on my mind that need askin';

- Are Elums found in the Western Mudos?

- Are the Grubbs and Sekto the only ones - living as of the end of SW - aware of Stranger's true nature or did the Clakkers, Wolvarks and remaining Outlaws make the link between the bounty hunter and the Steef they saw?

- Is there a collection of SW concept art and renders available in decent resolution? Stuff from the game's gallery if possible as I already have the material collected in OI:TFTY

- A little less related but I read about a character designing presentation Farzad Varahramyan did, but the links to it are dead - anyone have an upload perchance?

Cheers!

There's a version with pictures somewhere in our archive. I'd fish it out for you if I weren't already pulling hours of overtime trying to get things done.

Insert sympathy here.

I intentionally chose artwork for the Stranger extras that was as unseen as I could collect, while also being interesting and as related to each part of the game as possible. If I ever let them free into the wild of Internet Land, it certainly won't be before the PC and Vita versions have even shipped.

Thank ya kindly!
I never had an Xbox so those extras being exclusive to the HD version is news to me! Thanks for the selection anyway. What was the story behind the Clakker short, was it just done for shits and giggles?

Sympathy token here; cut along dotted line. Valid for one cuppa scald.

Wil 09-07-2012 02:44 AM

I'm not actually sure what the point of its creation was. If I had to guess I'd suggest it was to test how emotive characters could be in realtime. It's inclusion in the extras was at Stew's request, because he loves it, but it actually has a semi-important place in the history of Oddworld fandom. It was our very first ever glimpse of Stranger after years of silence from OWI. And I hated it. To go from the fantastic creatures and realms of the Abe and Munch games to fat chickens in dungarees. It was a time of much fretting, as you'll be able to see if you start snooping though post of the time.

So that's the story behind it from a fan perspective.
