It's definitely definitely worth watching but dear god if you get a Bender or Dr Zoidberg avatar or something I will foam at the mouth.

So you're saying that you shouldn't like likeable characters?

I'm saying they are overrated. Very easy to to write XD oh so random jokes for though, especially Zoidberg.

There's nothing at all wrong with liking them, they're just really not the best thing about the show.

OANST 07-30-2012 01:56 PM

Farnsworth is the best thing about the show.

Wings of Fire 07-30-2012 01:58 PM

Yes!

Dynamithix 07-30-2012 02:22 PM

Roberto was cool too.

Nepsotic 07-30-2012 02:28 PM

Boondocks. Aww Yeah! I think it's best to watch this when high.

Mr. Bungle 07-30-2012 02:38 PM

I've always liked Hermes and Zapp.

Mac Sirloin 07-30-2012 06:33 PM

Scruffy was my favourite character until he was actually a character.

I watched The Dark Knight Rises. I think The Dark Knight was better overall. It just seemed like they lost their grasp on keeping the narrative and setting solid. TDKR just felt really melodramatic and overwrought with emotion for the first third, BUT it did an excellent job of establishing Bane as a really formidable force. Then the second half kinda shoehorns all kinds of needless little ties to Rh'as al Ghul or whatever his name is, and there was League of Shadows this and League of Shadows that, and Bane lost that potency his presence had. He kinda became like an angry baboon popping up hither a thither to do something loud to Gotham. Christian Bale's performance just seemed shitty. His acting was just...iffy. Overall it was really fun, definitely worth watching just to see this bizarre trilogy meet its end, but TDK was a better movie.

Mr. Bungle 07-30-2012 06:53 PM

I was thinking the same thing the other day when I was watching a couple of post-rebirth Futurama episodes. They actually had him sitting in and talking during meetings, and it just didn't feel right at all. Felt very forced. He's a janitor, not a legitimate part of the delivery force. It seems like the writers are starting to realize how popular he is, so they try including him in all sorts of situations and completely miss the point of his character.

Bullet Magnet 07-30-2012 07:12 PM

Washbucket is the new janitor.

Phylum 07-31-2012 02:13 AM

There are some really good episodes and some really bad episodes, but overall it's nice to watch.

It's been on TV here and I saw How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back the other day. It wasn't the show I remembered when I was 10, but there was lots that I missed before. I didn't quite appreciate the Central Bureaucracy last time I saw that episode.

Nepsotic 07-31-2012 06:31 AM

That episode first aired in 2000 which makes you 22, however your profile states you are 16, so one's a lie.

Sorry, I got off the point a bit there.
I watched The Avengers last night, I thought it was great. Superheros fighting each other? How is that not epic?

Laser 07-31-2012 07:34 AM

Or, shocking as it maybe be, he started watching it when he was ten?

MeechMunchie 07-31-2012 12:06 PM

You don't understand, Laser, episodes only get shown once, then they're destroyed.

Futurama is like the Beatles, in that it's both very good and very overrated. It's definitely definitely worth watching but dear god if you get a Bender or Dr Zoidberg avatar or something I will foam at the mouth.

Have you ever considered that maybe you consider so many things overrated because you don't like them that much yourself? I can appreciate that seeing people get completely hyped over a show can be annoying, but why are the people with more moderate opinions automatically right? What's it going to take for something to be popular without somebody calling it overrated?

YHave you ever considered that maybe you consider so many things overrated because you don't like them that much yourself?

But I love Futurama.

But they're not. An opinion is an opinion.

:

That's never going to happen really, but if you really want I can list you some things I don't think are overrated. Seasons 3-8 of the Simpsons being on there, for instance.

But I love Futurama.

But presumably not as much as the people who overrate it, right? Surely you can only consider something overrated if you don't agree with the people who rate it most highly. And if that's the case, then all calling something overrated means is "I don't like it as much as some people", which is going to be true for everyone in 99.9% of cases; Ergo, calling something overrated is pretty meaningless.

This isn't an attack on you, I just hear the word "overrated" thrown around a lot by hipsters, and if there's one thing I hate it's words with no useful definition.

Also, I thought the Beatles were significant because they earned every ounce of their hype by being genuinely creative and influential.

Wings of Fire 07-31-2012 12:56 PM

I had a very recent conversation with Nate when we were talking objective and subjective quality of work. I held that there was an objective quality, which was something you couldn't attribute to the word 'taste'.

Therefore in the spirit of operationalization I say 'Futurama is a very good show, but it is neither as good as many people think, nor is it significant (In the same way that early Simpsons and The Beatles were). This is distinct from saying that I don't like it as much as some people because I'm talking about its objective quality.'

And now I sound like everything I hate.

EDIT: For the record, I overrate shows all the time. I'm a hypocrite like that.

Varrok 07-31-2012 01:04 PM

I share the same view with WoF, heck, once I even ended defending the thing I didn't like just because I didn't think it was objectively "bad".

Nepsotic 07-31-2012 01:08 PM

I do that with Call of Duty. My friends say it's a rubbish game, I know it's not, but I don't like it.

Varrok 07-31-2012 01:16 PM

It depends on *which* CoD game we're talking about

Nepsotic 07-31-2012 01:19 PM

Black Ops is the best, then MW2, other than that I'm not too familiar with the franchise. (MW is overrated)

Varrok 07-31-2012 01:39 PM

Oh Jesus.

JayDee 07-31-2012 02:02 PM

I saw The Dark Knight Rises a couple of days ago. The first time I heard Bane's voice in it I giggled. Then he snapped a guys neck.....
And I giggled a little bit more.
I quite enjoyed it, could've done with a bit less action. At first I was kinda annoyed that it would be the last Batman movie, but then I saw it and... if you've seen it then you'll understand.
Batman and Robin, folks.

Mr. Bungle 07-31-2012 02:08 PM

I think the third season of Futurama alone justifies anyone thinking of Futurama as being so amazing. And the newer epsiodes justify how overrated the show has become.

Dynamithix 07-31-2012 02:23 PM

The newer episodes have been very mediocre, they are still somewhat enjoyable but not great.

Varrok 07-31-2012 02:27 PM

Only 3 seasons? Simpsons had many more great ones D:

OANST 07-31-2012 02:29 PM

Is there any way that I can get the forum to go back to talking about ponies instead of Futurama? I think I preferred that.

Varrok 07-31-2012 02:30 PM

NO D:

Shitting fuck me too. Someone talk to me about Batman or something already, god damn.

I'm watching Transformers 3 tonight. Where's the little blarb I wrote on it?

Woah, Jesus. Never mind. I'll leave that festering where it belongs.

In other things I haven't watched yet news, my niece is cloying for a chance to see The Hunger Games again. After a couple of bizarre and confusingly passworded attempts at Torrenting it, she let slip that it's not actually even out on DVD yet anyway. Cool. Great. Bandwidth doesn't grow on trees you smelly kid.

Bandwidth doesn't grow on trees you smelly kid.

It does in America.

Mac Sirloin 07-31-2012 03:03 PM

Yeah, well, I live near a trainyard, and my dad used to work at that trainyard, and my dad might beat up your dad with a train if you don't watch your step.

OANST 07-31-2012 03:04 PM

My dad's dead.

Mac Sirloin 07-31-2012 03:41 PM

I told you to step off bro. I told you.

OANST 07-31-2012 03:43 PM

I didn't think you were serious.

Mac Sirloin 07-31-2012 03:49 PM

I wasn't, I really wasn't, but dad gets eating his cornmeats and hotdoggers, and he just, he just can't help himself.

OANST 07-31-2012 04:04 PM

You have to respect the power, though.

AND ANYONE ACCUSING ME OF SPAM CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF BECAUSE THIS IS BETTER THAN READING THE SAME COMMENTS ABOUT WHICH SEASONS OF FUTURAMA KICK ASS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

MeechMunchie 07-31-2012 04:36 PM

Seasons 2-4 of Futurama KICK ASS

Black Ops is the best, then MW2, other than that I'm not too familiar with the franchise. (MW is overrated)

Black Ops is a buggy, broken, cloistering game. It's beyond looking at gameplay objectively; From a purely technical standpoint it was an utter failure. The player is an extraneous component in CODBLOPS*.

*The laxative for MEN

Mac Sirloin 07-31-2012 04:38 PM

Yeah he tried making me this chastity belt (for all THREE no-no holes, kids) but he says it broke when he took it for a test drive with this harlot he was hanging around with at the time. I said Dad, I'm 20 years old. I haven't needed a chastity belt since those mishaps with the automated DJ machine at the school dances. But he said NO and made me wear the broken chastity belt anyway, and now all the Somalian kids throw bottles at me and they don't let either of us in the trainyard any more.

OANST 07-31-2012 04:42 PM

A tragic tale if ever I heard one.

Nate 07-31-2012 07:17 PM

Okay, that's enough. No more spam and no more Futurama talk, unless you have actually Just Seen it.
