Or Oddworld?

STM 09-09-2011 07:37 AM

Yo, Scraby, was that from the server? Near an unfinished egyptian pylon? If it is I know where you're talking about.

Scraby 09-09-2011 09:39 AM

no its not on the server sadly, its at my newly generated world,i checked the seed and the seed is MODDED turn around to see the great cave. Also for the pics i added them so that ppl dont need to click :) but if you dont like the size i will add links if i find anything nice again.

STM 09-09-2011 11:06 AM

Ah ok, there's something very similar in one of the desert a while away from Rofltown.

enchilado 09-09-2011 02:25 PM

So it's unfinished and a bit buggy, but if you can't wait for the real release:

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/mi...ked-by-mojang/

STM 09-09-2011 02:29 PM

Nah, fuck that, I'm waiting till Monday.

Splat 09-09-2011 03:45 PM

Yeah, I'd prefer the less-buggy version that won't fry my diamond sword like 1.6 did.

Phylum 09-09-2011 04:04 PM

I'm backing all of my files up before I play this. Can't think of a better way to spend a weekend while sick than exploring new worlds.

Scraby 09-09-2011 04:54 PM

i downloaded and played the pre release, the only thing is those endermen are frikin scary,

(SPOILER)you can kill them with water easily(SPOILER) i have some pics if anyone wants me to upload them

Phylum 09-09-2011 06:55 PM

1.8 is amazing. It feels really nice. I was unsure about the food system at first, but cows drop 1-5 (often about 3) steaks each and spawn in abundance. I currently have about 60 cooked steaks. The new lighting system is the best thing by far, though. Torches now cast an eerie orange light, night time is blue and sunsets are smooth! Chests open now, too, in a nice addition.

The landscapes are fucking amazing. I feel like my house in a ravine is a speck in a huge world, rather than it being the centre of one. Biomes are huge and look wonderful. Deserts are daunting due to the endless seas of sand. Water bodies are much deeper and feel less like random puddles.

This is the view from just near my house into a hilly plain with a river at sunset. I felt like I needed to include all of the stuff I mentioned in my last paragraph in this shot.

EDIT: Here's another cool picture I took in a cave. It's not new to 1.8, but it's pretty impressive.

E'l Scrabino 09-09-2011 10:07 PM

So I downloaded the 1.8 leak for funzies and stuff.

Got into a new world, turned up my graphics settings and... my computer nearly shat itself, it was that good. Unfortunately, if I want to have any form of playability I'll need to keep them as they were before - The minimum.

Also, sprinting's pretty cool, but not as fast as I thought it would be.

enchilado 09-10-2011 12:12 AM

Sprinting does let you throw monsters really far back when you hit them, though.

Scraby 09-10-2011 02:44 AM

lol now with sprint creepers are useless i killed ten of them without anyone of them exploding XD

Phylum 09-10-2011 02:55 AM

That cavern I posted a picture of in my last post is really a mineshaft that's been bisected by a cave. The roof is about 30-40 blocks above where I took that screenshot. That means that there are lots of small tunnels that provide a semi-constant stream of hostile mobs pouring out into the lava. I tried exploring some of it, but the sound of lots of spiders scared me away from the intricate, winding tunnels.

Scraby 09-10-2011 02:57 AM

i ate raw chicken and i got the desease, also i spawned in a swamp biome, its filled with vines :)
i also noticed that the game crashes if you put something in a furnace and activate the smelth,so does when the smelth is complete :/

Phylum 09-10-2011 04:12 AM

Yeah, it's definitely an unstable pre-release version. I keep getting random crashes and the furnace bug. Reloading the world has fixed everything so far, though.

I'm guessing all of these bugs are the reason they "leaked" it.

E'l Scrabino 09-10-2011 04:50 AM

I made a creative world so I could explore easier and also not fear the many mobs.

Something that I'm really pleased with is that there are actually bodies of water deep enough to be considered seas. I was flyin' over water for a seemingly long time, and there was no sight of land except for a few deserted islands. I turned view distance to full, accelerated the time til sunset and good a good picture :D

I also saw a huge overhang that had some floating blocks around it. It looked like a gigantic archway except it was only touching the ground on one side.

A fair distance on, there's a ravine that lead to a mine shaft which, in turn, leads to a forking HUGE cavern (easily 40 blocks high) which contained a large amount of cobwebs and a blue spider spawner. Blue spiders are cute when you're invulnerable :D

All in all it looks like the chunk generator has been spun into overdrive, creating hugely vast, grand, synonyms of big, applejuice landscape that makes it feel a whole lot more like ADVENTURE!

I was gunna upload my screenshots of said situations but the board does not allow PNG's greater than 500kb. Oh wheel.

As someone else with low system specs, can you tell if there’s any difference in performance? I have to play on the lowest settings, and my framerate can get fairly choppy at times; would be great if the new update made things run a bit smoother.

Scraby 09-10-2011 05:49 AM

i played the creative mode, its nice, for now i havent stumbled upon any dungeons or strongholds nor have i found any giant mushrooms yet :( but i found a bug that freezes flying in creative mode :/

I haven't noticed anything drastic. I think it's the same, if a little worse. However, 1.8 pre-release has a herpderp load of bugs, so the proper release is likely to be different.

Just a heads up, I read that giant mushrooms aren't included in the pre-release. I haven't seen any strongholds either, but I hear there's only one per world :O . I've found an abandoned mine, which could count as a dungeon I suppose. As for the bugs: For now I guess we'll have to just identify and avoid them until the bugfix'd version comes out :C

Havoc 09-10-2011 06:02 AM

So has the real 1.8 come out yet or not? I'm confused.

Scraby 09-10-2011 06:03 AM

yeah,i also found an wierd thing like an elevator shaft made in an area but it wasnt an mineshaft,i made a new world and i bombarded monsters from the air with fly,i also found a stone quarry,an open are with just stone and a mineshaft

EDIT:havoc this is pre release the real one comes at monday i think.

Not really the answer I was hoping for, but oh well. Hopefully the final release will clear things up a bit.

Mojang “leaked” 1.8 early. The official release isn’t out yet.

Dynamithix 09-10-2011 06:06 AM

No, it's coming out on Monday I think.

EDIT: Oh lol, 2 people posted at the same time.

Scraby 09-10-2011 06:11 AM

i found that swamp trees look totaly different from other trees, and the vines look cool, also the oceans are nice, boats will have finally some greater use :)

edit:did anyone saw the new achievement?

Crashpunk 09-10-2011 08:09 AM

The Yogscast have recorded some footage of the leaked 1.8.

Wil 09-10-2011 08:20 AM

EDIT: Nevermind, I are silly.

Splat 09-10-2011 08:30 AM

Do rivers have sources, or do they just flow from sea to sea?

Scraby 09-10-2011 09:05 AM

i just fell in the void in creative, the void is black and emits some kind of a smoke creepy :/
i also killed 2 endermen, they dropped some ender pearls, they also open their jaws when they attack, thats quite interesting.

STM 09-10-2011 09:06 AM

Splat, the rivers either have a source (the water doesn't flow however) or the rivers double back on themselves thus creating some sort of odd paradoxical worm like lake.

Phylum 09-10-2011 05:15 PM

Escherian rivers.

dripik 09-10-2011 11:36 PM

I'm not sure how to feel about Silverfish (you might want to turn your volume down for this one).

A weird little creature popping out of mined stone randomly, and then rapidly multiplying? That might discourage me from mining at all.

STM 09-10-2011 11:54 PM

Silverfish will make a nice addition to mining I think, and with the new health mechanic it's affordable for them to be a regular occurrence as well.

Phylum 09-11-2011 02:32 AM

Silverfish only spawn from mined stone bricks in strongholds. Block ID 97 (the silverfish spawner that doesn't spawn naturally) is probably at the heart of those stone bricks.

Am I the only one that thinks Endermen should do more damage or have more health? Ever since I discovered they die in 2 hits from a diamond sword I'm just not intimidated by them.

Manco 09-11-2011 04:15 AM

Everything dies in two hits from a diamond sword though. Try fighting them before you’ve started your own National Guard.

Wil 09-11-2011 06:30 AM

But even without the greater weapons, they're no greater threat than any other hostile mob. To the point that it's barely worth the effort of trying to avoid looking at them.

Splat 09-11-2011 07:11 AM

How do you deal with Silverfish? From what I've seen they seem to multiply much quicker than they can be killed.

Wil 09-11-2011 07:53 AM

Can they climb? Jump on a little pedestal.

Gwan-Thwei 09-11-2011 09:16 AM

Aww. Now I REALLY want to buy minecraft. I'm still using the shitty outdated cracked site.

They can climb, and they will do so too. Haven't you seen that video?

If they only occur in strongholds, then I am somewhat relieved.
