OANST 01-14-2011 11:01 AM

James Mercer is a douchebag, but I like this song.

Mac Sirloin 01-14-2011 11:02 AM

So, here's my favorite song ever.

Mr. Bungle 01-14-2011 03:31 PM

Phylum 01-14-2011 08:19 PM

I've been listening to One Step Beyond lots lately. These are a few of my favorites.

I love Sugs's voice in this one.

The above song always makes me think of Pink Floyd's first single.

Dear lawd, that's amazing. I like that too.

MeechMunchie 01-15-2011 12:48 PM

I still like Franz Ferdinand.

Hobo 01-15-2011 02:04 PM

Electroswing is my new genre I'm getting jolly over:

Mr. Bungle 01-15-2011 03:03 PM

Electroswing?

Well.

That's a new one.

That song is everywhere here in Denmark. At least in clubs. My sister loves it.

Mr. Bungle 01-17-2011 01:19 PM

Just 'cause Mike Patton is, like, God, or something.

Ridg3 01-17-2011 02:57 PM

Angela is such a good vocalist.

Mr. Bungle 01-17-2011 03:46 PM

This is true. And she's not too bad to look at, either. ;)

Most Arch Enemy is pretty hit or miss for me, anyways.

Wings of Fire 01-17-2011 04:00 PM

Eh. I like Nemesis for the bitchin' riff and it's not nearly as clean live.

Ridg3 01-18-2011 03:03 PM

And oh my goodness... Deadlock has a new album coming out and it sounds fantastic.

Mr. Bungle 01-18-2011 03:05 PM

If you don't think Animals is one of the greatest albums of all time, please leave.

EDIT:

Ridg3, did you hear about the new Amon Amarth? It's due in March, and I'm super pumped. Album art and track listing have been released.

Album cover is fucking sick:

No, I did not. I'll definitely get the album and I'll enjoy it thoroughly, but there is too many albums announced for this year from a whole pile of artists I listen to so I'll probably toss it to one side after finishing listening to it to make room for The Agonists new album.

And by the way, that album art is fucking fantastic.

Mr. Bungle 01-21-2011 08:44 PM

This is one of, if not the most well-produced albums I've heard.

T-nex 01-21-2011 10:27 PM

Ugh... I can't stand Joanna Newson's voice.

Dynamithix 01-22-2011 05:01 AM

That's true. I usually listen what OANST posts here because he seems to be some sort of music expert, but that woman's voice was just annoying.

OANST 01-22-2011 06:42 AM

She makes beautiful music. I like her nasal voice. Sure, it isn't what most people think of when they think of beautiful voices, but it's clear, it has range, and it's unique. Also, she tells the most interesting stories within her songs.

You need to understand too, that art isn't supposed to always be pretty. Art is an imitation of life, and life is not always pretty. It's complex. As is her voice, and her music. So, in the end, it may not be pretty, but it's art, isn't it?

Dynamithix 01-22-2011 06:54 AM

Don't get me wrong, the song was pretty good, but I haven't been able to like that kind of voice since they started playing Duffy's "Well well well" all over Finland. It fucking sucks.

MeechMunchie 01-22-2011 07:11 AM

Every time Duffy comes on the radio over here I think 'Yuck'.

STM 01-22-2011 07:16 AM

'The End' by The Doors, unfortunately embedding is disabled on most of the videos on youtube so here's a link. I just love the first minute! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b26B...eature=related

I agree that she makes beautiful music. She's very talented. I wish I could listen to it. But that voice just friggin ruins it for me. It's like punching shards of glass through my ears.
I love that she plays harp.

Wings of Fire 01-22-2011 08:30 AM

I actually really liked that song, and I thought her voice was wonderful.

OANST 01-22-2011 08:39 AM

Possibly my favorite song by possibly my favorite band.

Mr. Bungle 01-22-2011 08:42 AM

I got bored of Animal Collective. I still listen to Feels every once in a while, but Merriweather Post Pavillion I'm tired of.

And I thought Modest Mouse was your favourite band.

That was before they made We Were Dead.

I'm also bored of Merriweather, but I'm not even a little bored with Sung Tongs, Feels, Strawberry Jam, or Water Curses.

ziggy 01-22-2011 08:52 AM

I like Joanna Newson's voice. It's uniquely pretty. And she's great at the mostly lost art of harp playing, at least in lots of contemporary music.

As for Animal Collective I never really liked Merriweather Post Pavillion. From my first listen I thought they lost their edge and started playing some kind of eletro dance music.

I can't help but feel I am repeating myself but whatever, this is my favorite song of theirs still.

OANST 01-22-2011 09:03 AM

Leaf House is pretty great.

Listening to Indie music does not make you an expert on music, muthafucka. Listening to Indie music makes you one cool dude, dude.

This song sounds terrible but in a good way, the way the piece was constructed and played/sung it just sounds dreadfully morbid. But I believe that this is the best song I have ever heard from them.

T-nex 01-22-2011 09:50 AM

But Oanst doesn't listen to Indie music. He listens to GOOD music. Such is his words!

OANST 01-22-2011 10:02 AM

Exactly.

Really, there is no such genre as indie. It doesn't exist. It's something that people have made up to encompass dozens upon dozens of genres simply because these people think that anything they are not aware of is simply other, and so must be contained in a single title. A title that they can mock. Indie. It doesn't exist.

Look at this:

Now, look at this:

Are they similar? No. Are they similar genres? No. And yet, you are going to call them both indie. You do this because in your mind everything must have a label, and since you don't understand what you're seeing you put the same label on everything.

So, no. I don't listen to Indie music. I listen to good music.

T-nex 01-22-2011 10:06 AM

Water Curses is my fave AC song though... I love love love it :D

Anyway I think that Indie often does hold things in common. Such as the music being a bit more different than 'normal' music and sometimes more innovative. And a lot of indie bands like acoustic Guitar. Well that's my opinion from all the music I've heard that is classified as Indie... And some of it is bad and some of it is good. Like any other music. It can go one way or the other or somewhere in between.

Ridg3 01-22-2011 10:10 AM

No... I think I stated that you listen to indie music because you seem to exclusively listen to music created by independent artists, it had nothing to do with the genre of the music because my remark wouldn't have worked as well if I said, 'Listening to electronica/experimental rock/etc makes you one cool dude.'

Except that people also lump Radiohead in with Indie now. My point is that it's not a musical genre. But if it is a way of looking at making music, and not the music itself that makes you choose the term, then I guess that makes some sense. I do not typically listen to music made by people who are targeting a demographic. So, if that makes me a hipster, or an indie kid, then so be it. I'll still be enjoying better music than those who listen to the radio, so it doesn't bother me.

T-nex 01-22-2011 10:17 AM

I think good music can be found in both the Indie world and Label world.
