It looks amazing, made me want to play it. :D

Oddey 10-09-2012 08:00 AM

I'm impressed by what you can do with Minecraft in its almost completely unchanged state. Even though there are command blocks and a handful of slightly odd things, like the lava pits and lever ledges (I understand why these things are there though), it still looks fantastic.

Crashpunk 10-09-2012 09:10 AM

Here's my playthough of the demo. My stupid PC makes Minecraft lag so I had a hard time jumping over gaps so it's not your fault I was getting annoyed at times :D

Overall, it's very good. I love the texture pack and I cannot wait to see more. The only bad point was that it ended so soon :D

Also, you'll be happy to know that OWI featured one of your videos Ed :) 'grats!

DarkHoodness 10-09-2012 10:17 AM

Yeah I posted that on their FB site and I appreciate that they decided to share it on their main page - I'm a little overwhelmed by the attention I'm getting now. :P lol. I'm glad this map is now possible for me to do.

Let's hope I can deliver. :)

I do have one issue: Music. It is possible to distribute music with the map and implement it (I've done some experiments), but considering OWI are selling the AO soundtrack, won't I get a bollocking for distributing it even if it is part of a fangame? Maybe it'll be easier to ask people to play the soundtrack in the background if they own it, while they play my map. :P lol.

Havoc 10-09-2012 12:39 PM

As long as you're not making a profit why would they give you trouble. Knowing Lorne and JAW in general I think they would only encourage it.

DarkHoodness 10-09-2012 03:51 PM

I still think that may be pushing it - Perhaps I'm pushing it by distributing extracted sounds from the games as part of the sound pack even though it may help advertise Oddworld through the Minecraft community.

Havoc 10-09-2012 04:21 PM

I still don't see a problem with using it for a fan project. But if you really want to be sure, go ask JAW for permission. I'm pretty confident they won't give you any trouble.

DarkHoodness 10-19-2012 03:04 PM

Need some help: Name me some Oddworld food products for a mini easter-egg! So far I have:

Scrab Cakes
Fuzzle Pies
Paramite Pies
Elum Chubs
Weenie Babies
Meech Munchies

Soulstorm Brew
Sekto Springs Bottled Water

Any I'm missing?

(also I am making decent progress with the map even though it's painfully slow, things tend to take longer than I want them to - I think people will love what I've put in, though. :) )

Splat 10-20-2012 08:28 AM

Were Slurg Sundaes canon or fan-made?

DarkHoodness 10-20-2012 08:52 AM

Fan submissions can be accepted too if they're good enough. :) My map is a fanwork and based heavily off of AO rather than tying in with the canon for the sake of what's possible in Minecraft and player immersion, so it doesn't matter.

EDIT: While I'm at it, I can also accept fanmade LED messages too as mini easter eggs. Most of the official ones will make an appearance...

ANNOUNCEMENT (also TL: DNR version)

I'm accepting submissions of fanmade LED board messages and Oddworld product names to use as easter eggs, if they're good enough. You'll be credited.

Crashpunk 10-20-2012 10:53 AM

New 'N' Tasty! Mudokon Blocks!

Varrok 10-20-2012 10:58 AM

I read that as "bollocks"

Crashpunk 10-20-2012 12:01 PM

Mudokons don't have bollocks.

...apparently

DarkHoodness 10-20-2012 04:00 PM

Probably a good thing that they don't. :P

Here's the announcement that I made for my YouTube watchers. I mimicked the LED boards in Vegas, complete with sound effects for the hell of it. I was going to have a slig walk across the screen too, but it turned out to be too complicated.

Splat 10-21-2012 02:43 AM

Mullock's Mouthlube!

Crashpunk 10-21-2012 03:19 AM

I was thinking it would be cool to mix Oddworld with Minecraft in the LED messages as this is already a crossover of games.

Here's just some examples. They aren't very good...

Bonewerkz: Premium Sand!
SoulStorm Diamond mining co.

Were Slurg Sundaes canon or fan-made?

I'm pretty sure they were canon, I remember seeing a crate in AE with a Slurg Sundae logo on it.

DarkHoodness 10-22-2012 02:52 PM

Hm, there hasn't yet been many responses to the "competition", even though there already have been one or two very good suggestions which I'm grateful for. But people do still have a long time to think of and submit stuff... Shame I lack the wit to think of my own here.

Also, screw readable books. They break player immersion for telling the story, so here's a tiny preview of an extra thing I've been implementing, now that it's possible. I've thought long and hard about the scripts which now gradually appear in the chat window when the player triggers certain events:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1350945792

Maybe I can find an alternative use for them. Oh and all this time later, I'm still developing resources to use in the map... Textures, game mechanics, how to make areas more varied... But all this thought I'm putting into this will be worth it later on.

Havoc 10-23-2012 06:33 AM

Looks epic man!

WolfensteinOdess 11-28-2012 09:19 AM

Where can I download the texture pack ??? :) I love your work :D

DarkHoodness 11-28-2012 11:04 AM

It'll be publicly released with the map when it's done...

Here's an update while I'm at it: I'm lazy and haven't made a lot of progress over the past month although I do still work on this from time to time. People should stop watching me for a bit - I won't be posting any more updates until I have something significant to show. I kind of regret generating this much interest so early in the project considering I work so slowly. :S

I'll be picking up the pace soon once I've worked a few things out that are currently stumping me, though. Maybe I need to stop being so ambitious and keep my map more basic than I intend it to be.

Havoc 11-28-2012 04:12 PM

Don't worry about it. It's a one man project, people should learn to be patient.

LauricGK 11-29-2012 03:19 AM

I totally agree with Havoc ;-))

Crashpunk 11-29-2012 03:37 AM

I'm very patient with it Dark because I know how time consuming Minecraft is. Just take your time. It will be all worth it.

dripik 12-01-2012 12:35 AM

Nice to see that this is still going, Edd.

Do you think people (that is, us, not random people from the Internet) would be able to help you out with the map if it was hosted on a server? I'd be glad to help out, and I'm sure there are more people here who would assist. I don't know how large the map is, or whether the idea is even possible or worth doing, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway.

WolfensteinOdess 12-01-2012 07:31 AM

Dark, I found a feeco map in my minecraft wich I make a year ago. I have try to remake some of your textures but mine are fucking...But it's not my problem. The problem is I don't know how to make a skin for some mobs ! Can you give me just the slig skin wich is the most difficult to make for me ? I've try to make a greeter but....lol. Thank you very much if you can send me the slig :)

Night_Magnus 02-21-2013 04:41 PM

Please do more work!!!

It NEEDS to be done, plz finish texture!!!!!!

DarkHoodness 02-21-2013 06:29 PM

E: This post used to be a gushing, rambling explanation of why I stopped working on this for a few months: Minecraft's limitations got me stumped.

However after some experiments with the latest snapshots, it is in production. Again.

Sorta deja-vu. Haven't I been here before?

Anyway, stop watching me. Nothing to see here. Next updates will be when both the texture pack and the majority of the level design & set pieces are actually finished in a few months time provided I can pull my finger out of my arse and stop stalling, and then I may ask for help to refine what I've done. And probably in a new topic under a new project name 'cause this one is too cluttered.

DarkHoodness 03-20-2013 11:34 AM

E: Revised question.

I'd like to do this project in a way that I find fun, 'cause I'm awkward. Over the past month I've occasionally been experimenting with stuff while waiting for things to update - What I want to do is possible in Minecraft with mods. Normal MC is too restrictive, and so is doing the map in Tekkit or FTB 'cause they don't have the mods I want to use.

Tekkit Launcher supports custom mod packs now, so I'm putting together a mod pack to distribute with the map. It'll be based on MC 1.5 and will include compatible mods.

Problem with that is I've been looking through various MC forums and there's a huge drama and controversy surrounding permissions to distribute mods in bundled mod packs - Which I can't imagine why since Minecraft belongs to Mojang and surely nobody except them has any rights to what is made for it?

Surely if full author credits are clearly given, it shouldn't be a problem?

I'd like to ask mod authors for permission to distribute the mod pack with my map, but I'm paranoid that they'll say "no" 'cause of the aforementioned drama - And also some are hard to get in touch with personally.

There are several custom mod packs being distributed already though, so should I just chance it and distribute the mod pack anyway when the map is done, provided I give full, clear credits? Or would that be too disrespectful? Is this even an issue? What do people think?

DarkHoodness 03-24-2013 08:22 PM

Revised above post from "mad ramblings" to "coherent question". And yeah, I'm painfully aware of my mental ineptitude. It's difficult to live with.

Anyway my question still stands. Provided people still watch what I'm doing, can I have some feedback on this? Ta.
