Abe didn’t have the ability to talk before GameSpeak was devised for the game. You don’t think that narrator is an in‐universe character, do you?

Vexus 09-07-2007 09:48 AM

Where is that website that has a list of all the interviews and stuff? I think it was in the Oddworld Library before but I can't find it.
Is there a website or link or something that lists all the MO changes?
What does a Chronicler(sp) do?
How do those little Sloggies tackle Abe? (I know it is a gameplay mechanic but its fun to come up with another reason)
What is the deal with Munches moon? I thought the Mudokons were the chosen ones, not the Gabbits.

Yes. We called it The Oddworld Archives, but it went down for redevelopment as The Oddworld Scriptures. It was well on its way to being completed when my hard drive failed and I lost all my work on TOL.

p.s. I checked The Wayback Machine in case it had archived our archives. Sadly, it found the page but, because TOA was made up of frames, it couldn’t archive it.

Alcar had information on this on an older version of Oddworld Universe, but there’s no complete list that I know of.

What does a Chronicler(sp) do?

They are lawyers, accountants, and stock brokers.

What is the deal with Munches moon? I thought the Mudokons were the chosen ones, not the Gabbits.

It was millennia ago that Mudokons interpreted the Mudokon paw moon as a symbol of their divinity, and this arrogant conclusion was what led to the downfall of their civilization. Nowadays, Mudokons see the moon as an omen that foretells Abe’s saving his people, hence their calling it Abe’s Moon. Munch’s Moon can be interpreted in just the same way.

Actually no one knows for sure what's from Fangus and what's not, Silvio wasn't realy clear. Sorry for that, I tried to sort it out the best I could.

It's clear alright. I hade close up on it,Outlighted it its correct

There is a certain picture of a vyker entering a freezer room, with it's walls lined with several bodies in water, all of them unseen before besides the gabbit looking ones. The door looks pretty secure, and the room behind it, pretty suspicious and mysterious.
My question is, was this just concept art purley for insperation, or was their a freezer level or something to do with this area of what seems like vyker's labs planned, and then scrapped.
Did it have any signifacance, like the lawyer scene which was cut, and what was it if known?
There are what seems like gabbits pictured, so maybe they are just an oddworld version of frozen, and could be put back to life again, or maybe the gabbiar was supposed to be inside. It's probably not important, I just thought the picture was quite interesting.
P.S. I believe the picture is in TOGG, and it is in the oddworld art book.

Bullet Magnet 09-17-2007 04:17 AM

I looked to me like Formaldehyde.

I agree, formaldehyde. I am familiar with it. Frozen would be white around them, not so clear, plus the bodies wouldn't float like that. Plus I doubt Gabbits would be considered extinct if there were some ready for unfreezing at any given time.

Just seems like concept art, a fairly normal area of Vykkers Labs (to them...)

Nate 09-17-2007 05:00 PM

It seemed to me like a concept sketch rather than anything significant. What do you mean by "the lawyer scene"?

Bullet Magnet 09-18-2007 12:37 AM

I imagine it is another reference to Mr Chronicler.

mudling 09-18-2007 12:53 AM

Oh ok.
Also, maybe that is the way they freeze things in oddworld, and but I guess you're right, and maybe they do not have the technoligy, but they are working on it, like how we have frozen people like Einstein, and possible stashed things like frozen mamoths away, maybe for DNA collection. (it is possible or nearly possible to make clones of Mammoths, maybe it is possible to make clones of extenct speacies through DNA or something).
Yes I do, I think it mentions somewhere, possibly in the art book that there was a lawyer seen planned, for abe and munch, in MO, and chroniclers would be involved, but it got cut.

Zerox 09-19-2007 08:18 AM

Frozen cloning, eh...Meeches, anyone? Good concept for the RPs...

alf's brother's mate 09-19-2007 09:52 AM

yes, sounds cool, but how would you get it to continue with a story line?

My first reaction is that the whole place are full of either organisms that Vykkers have discovered so far, or failed experiments. As in, they could have been designed by Vykkers using DNA samples, but proved useless. Perhaps attempts to clone Gabbits, Meeches, or any other animals that could be related to consumer products. At least that's how I feel.

My other feeling is that this particular area is where the Gabbit eggs were suppose to be stored. Sort of like silk worms, where they are placed under machines (I can't remember the name) that either slow down their growth rate or speed it up. In this case, the eggs were stored in a freezing chamber to make sure they don't go bad. (The orginal plot had that Vykkers preserved the eggs and tried to get Munch to fertilize them in their big scheme of saving technology, and making a Gabbit race that serves them. Sort of like domestic chickens.) Of course, that was cut out.

At least that's what I feel like...

That picture always reminded me of the scene in Aliens 4 (at least I think it was 4; don't shoot me if I'm wrong) where Ripley wanders around the gene lab and sees all the mutated, distorted versions of her that the scientists cooked up before getting it right.

mudling 10-02-2007 02:12 PM

Oh that makes sense, thanks heaps for the answers everyone.
I never knew there was a scene like that planned, it seems rather interesting. I'm quite upset MO couldn't be everything that was planned, but maybe OI will make it up some day.
I have another question however:
I've always wondered what are those orange lightsaber things the sligs and expecially big bro have. They are used to direct the blimps when Lulu arrives, but since to my memory, in MO most of them seem to have it, and it is in the concept art of the big bro sligs aswell, so what are they, and what is there purpose? I would of thought weapon but they're never used as one.

ziggy 10-02-2007 06:00 PM

I always thought those orange things were just lights, like a lamp but in stick form.

Hey all, quick question: Do the PSX versions of Abe's games have downgraded graphics?

thanks!

Hey all, quick question: Do the PSX versions of Abe's games have downgraded graphics?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Downgraded.' I believe they have the same graphics quality as the PC versions.

Rayrockslots 10-03-2007 03:48 AM

I have a question, its just something I've been wondering lately

In Munch's oddysee, when Abe and Munch get to the Almighty Raisin at one point Munch says "No no no no im not going back there" and (I think) the Raisin replys "Listen to me gadget top, and you listen good"

Im not too sure if he calls Munch a gadget top or if im mishearing it cause he could be saying something like "Gabbit" not gadget. Im just assuming he says gadget top because he has the sonar in his head (so he has a Gadget on the top of his head - Gadget top, get it?).

Another reason is because he has a nickname for Abe (stitch lips) so he gave Munch one aswell

I know this is proberly a really easy queston to answer but everytime I see that scene it always makes me think about it and it's driving me insane, please help me

Nate 10-03-2007 03:59 AM

That's a good question. I've never been sure what he said there.

Hey all, quick question: Do the PSX versions of Abe's games have downgraded graphics?

The PS versions were the originals; they were ported to the PC.

Marvak 10-03-2007 06:28 AM

Another thing about the dialogue. In the Good Ending movie, when Abe and Munch are on the blimp, Abe says "Y'know, most o' the time, when I leave a mean place like that... It blows up." then Munch says something that sounds like; "Well, 'dot fussals' got their own plan."
I don't think he actually says dot fassals, but this is what I'm trying to work out. What DOES he say?

Zozo the Zrilufet 10-03-2007 06:58 AM

:pI think he said "Well, dat fuzzles' got their own plan", :Das in they set the bomb that killed Irwin and Humphrey.......Wait a minute, they have no limbs or hands, how could they set a bomb?!

Wil 10-03-2007 07:26 AM

The Raisin calls Munch ‘Gadget Top’.

Munch says ‘Da Fuzzles got deir own plan.’ One would presume he helped the Fuzzles to loot the armoury. As the Shaman tells Abe, Munch has some ‘personal business to attend to,’ i.e. revenge.

ziggy 10-03-2007 03:36 PM

Ya and I love the fact you don't play that part but instead play the section as Abe, even though the game is called Munch's Oddysee!!!... Anyway do any of you wiser Oddworld fans know why in MO they decided to dumb down the gamespeak? I hate it, maybe something about it beind 3D? I know it's been stated a millions times but god MO sucks.

Rupture Farms 10-03-2007 04:03 PM

Here's a question, Why are Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath restricted to xBox?

Bullet Magnet 10-03-2007 04:14 PM

Munch's Oddysee: because the XBox was deemed the only platform at the time capable of delivering their vision (which didn't actually happen) and a deal was made with Microsoft that it would be a launch title and that the next several Oddysee titles would be XBox exclusive.

Stranger's Wrath: because EA wouldn't complete its PS2 port.

Rupture Farms 10-03-2007 04:34 PM

Thanks.

:

because the XBox was deemed the only platform at the time capable of delivering their vision
I don't get it. :fuzblink:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what does xBox have that PS2 doesn't?
I guess what I'm trying to say is, "why couldn't the PS2 of delivered their vision"?

Nate 10-03-2007 07:29 PM

The PS2 had less memory, no hard drive, less powerful processor and worse graphics.

Rupture Farms 10-03-2007 07:38 PM

Oh, I thought it would be something like that. But I still choose PS over xBox any day..

Thanks. :D

Exactly what I was going to say.
Xbox will always win over the Playstation.
