I probably won't touch S10 much, but I'll give a few more chances to this one

Mac Sirloin 07-27-2012 03:01 PM

I posted this in the wrong thread.

On the other hand, I watched one of Russel Peter's standup routines with my niece. He's pretty funny. No Jim Gaffigan.

MeechMunchie 07-27-2012 05:26 PM

I just finished watching the Olympic opening ceremony. That was batshit insane, and a great deal better than I was expecting.

Also the Olympic Commitee president's surname is Roug or something French, but pronounced "Rog". Me and my brother found the idea of gathering large amounts of hulking physical competitors for the lighting of a giant fire under the gaze of someone called "Rog" very entertaining.

ALL HAIL ROG, MASTER OF OLYMPIA

Bullet Magnet 07-27-2012 05:36 PM

One of the Brazilian football squad is called Hulk.

The opening went off without a hitch. Except for the hitch.

Danny Boyle made us proud.

MeechMunchie 07-27-2012 05:38 PM

Oh, Danny Boyle...

... THE PIPES, THE PIPES ARE CALLING

Manco 07-27-2012 05:38 PM

Yeah, I remember seeing a preview of what the ceremony would be like (pastures and cottages) and being instantly turned off by how kitschy it looked.

But the actual ceremony was great; first thing they do was tear out all the grass and replace it with industrialisation while heavy drums get beat, then they threw in a healthy dose of comedy, and then the remembrance stuff. I thought the design for the cauldron was really smart and original and the decision to have seven young athletes light it (rather than just one famous name) was a nice touch.

And yeah, batshit insane throughout.

Bullet Magnet 07-27-2012 05:40 PM

There should have been more Doctor Who.

And god dammit Paul McCartney. They should have booked Elbow. They should have sang "One Day Like This".

Manco 07-27-2012 05:41 PM

There was some Bowie and Queen. That more than makes up for it.

Mr. Bungle 07-27-2012 05:43 PM

I got really excited when they played Pink Floyd. That was awesome.

Strike Witch 07-28-2012 02:49 AM

I completely missed the ceremony and can't find it online =(

OddjobAbe 07-28-2012 02:52 AM

I didn't even know it was on. Anyway, I'm going camping to avoid the whole thing, the misanthrope that I am.

There should have been more Doctor Who.

I kept expecting the TARDIS to appear in the middle of proceedings, maybe with Matt Smith trying to scamper out of the way of dancers.

All the music was from Boyle's formative years, which probably means that this is his personal fantasy come to life.

Anyway, we were better than China and its dancing totalitarians. Also, giant Voldemort.

EDIT: And I'm pretty sure that child-catcher guy was Noel Fielding.

OANST 07-28-2012 07:37 AM

I saw Darkwing Duck Rises last night. Over all I was impressed. Bane was a lot more fun than I expected. The first fight scene between him and Batman was phenomenal. There were a few cringe worthy scenes, but they were all dialogue scenes between Batman, and Catwoman. I would have liked Bale's performance a lot more if he had dropped the gravelly voice after everyone figured out who he was. It was still really good, though.

Now that you mention it, he did remind me of the Hitcher from Mighty Boosh. And speaking of Doctor Who, it may have just been in my mind but after they played the Prodigy I'm pretty sure I heard the TARDIS noise.

Bullet Magnet 07-28-2012 10:03 AM

You did. Well, I don't know if it was Prodigy or not, but the TARDIS definitely made a cloaked flyby.

Nepsotic 07-28-2012 03:11 PM

You don't Bittorrent? I downloaded it yesterday, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I don't lurk piratebay or anything if that's what you mean.

Nepsotic 07-29-2012 03:32 AM

If you haven't already got it yet, here.

MeechMunchie 07-29-2012 04:03 AM

Alternatively,

I'm probably the only one who laughed at this...

Dynamithix 07-29-2012 02:59 PM

I watched Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz again. Was probably the seventh time I've seen Shaun of the Dead. Both really great movies, but it's hard to say which one is better, I myself prefer Shaun of the Dead but Hot Fuzz is a really, really good movie too.

Sadly the latest film with Pegg and Frost, Paul, wasn't nearly as good as the previous two. It was still alright though.

Nate 07-30-2012 01:17 AM

Which just goes to show that the talent in the trio was all in the hands of Edgar Wright.

I suspect this post will bring out the Scott Pilgrim haters. Then I shall laugh in their stupid faces for being so predictable. And wrong.

MeechMunchie 07-30-2012 02:05 AM

If Edgar wright was so great Scott Pilgrim wouldn't have been depressingly mediocre.

It was better than alright, I enjoyed it, Hot Fuzz has to be them at their best, though.

Wings of Fire 07-30-2012 07:23 AM

I hate all those movies if that makes anyone feel vindicated.

OANST 07-30-2012 07:32 AM

I'm with WoF. Sort of. I don't hate them, but I found Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz to both be boring, and unfunny. I can see what they are going for, but they just failed to make it funny.

Oh, and I finished Season 3 of Breaking Bad. Starting from the episode where The Murder Twins attacked Hank, the season became phenomenal. I couldn't nit pick a damned thing after that. The last two episodes were some fucking nail biters too. Great season over all.

Nepsotic 07-30-2012 08:24 AM

Zombie army at the end of GoT, holy shit was that epic, and I didn't even watch the other episodes! I'm also currently downloading season 3 of Misfits, can't wait, it's one of my favourite programmes of all time. (One of)

How did they fail? They're both fucking hilarious.

They're really not.

(Hint: Continuing like this would be completely useless)

I don't think they are terrible movies. I don't despise them, and it doesn't make me angry to watch them. I just don't find it funny.

I can't not have the last word. It's a personality flaw.

It is.

Ew. That's one of the worst too.

Varrok 07-30-2012 01:30 PM

I'd reply to this, but I'm afraid I'd stop being funny.

Anyways, I watched a couple more episodes of S9 of the Simpsons, and I'm glad I found no totally-unfunny episodes like Lisa's Sax. That's a relief, kinda. Was it the period when the creators were focused on making Futurama? I've never watched it, I guess you all like it and recommend, right?

Laser 07-30-2012 01:33 PM

I watched Fright Night remake. It wasn't particually laugh out loud funny but it made me smile and it was a really enjoyable film. Colin Farrel was great as the vampire...but the star of the show was David Tennant, his Vegas vampire hunter character was hilarious.

Also seeming him curse up a storm was really weird since I loved his Dr. Who.

Futurama is like the Beatles, in that it's both very good and very overrated. It's definitely definitely worth watching but dear god if you get a Bender or Dr Zoidberg avatar or something I will foam at the mouth.

Varrok 07-30-2012 01:42 PM

Cool, I like the Beatles.

I guess not, I haven't got Homer or any other Simpsons' character anyway
