Yup. The towns. That was a pretty new thing for that type of game.

I think it's a little much to expect any game on the NES, apart from maybe Super Mario Bros 3, to look nice nowdays.
|
Especially when the game in question had reviewers raving over the art and graphics when it was released.
|
Egoraptor in his video rightly pointed that in NES games colors can make a huge difference in how the graphics feel for player. C1 (And C3) had much better color balance than C2. When I look at that city, I mostly see one color, therefore I categorize that as less pretty than those in these two games
|
Okay
I finally watched that video. I was unimpressed all the way through, especially at the end where he basically implied without saying that there's no value in adventuring and exploration. |
So, I just watched it, or at least most of it. Yeah. It was stupid, and it does what every hack reviewer ever born does. It judges it based on what it isn't instead of what it is.
|
So I started playing Psychonauts. I bought it sometime earlier in the year when it was on offer on Steam, and then forgot to play it (I have about twenty other games suffering a similar fate, due to loads of impulse buys). And then I bought the Humble Indie Bundle today, and combined with the fact that I finished my exams yesterday, I fired it up. Seems good so far, and the game definitely suits my sense of humour. I've also got Bastion waiting to be played now, which I've heard many good things about.
|
I've just started playing Bastion too. It's much cooler than I thought it'd be
|
Played quite a few games this week. (no changes there then) Started playing Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City again, My town is completely fucked, it needs sorting out. :(
I also went back and got a few heart pieces on Zelda: Twilight Princess, I'm planning to beat it 100% because it's my favorite Zelda game and I have my old save file which already has all the Poes caught. Oh and also played a lot of TF2, a bit of Pokemon Black and currently on my way to beat Okami :) |

I am playing Super Metroid. Never played it all the way through before so that's pretty much my goal. Very neat atmosphere, nonstop creepiness. It's weird to think they've gotten so much more linear. |

Gob's not on board.

Playing Sonic Generations with my cousin Ethan. He wanted to do the new Sonic levels and I did the classic ones, and we competed for times.
He laughed through Sky Sanctuary at my slow progress but sobered up on City Escape. We had fun though. |
Sonic Colours for the Wii is actually pretty good and I consider it up there with the classic Sonic games in terms of quality.
|
Sonic Colours was a surprise, I thought it was going to be yet another shit Sonic game but it was actually very good. I have yet to play Sonic Generations but I've heard just constant praise from it.
|
I tried the demo for Dragon's Dogma, I felt it was a little overwhelming. So much shit is flying at you at once, the biggest annoyance is the gigantic chatlog of your NPC Buddies' automated responses which you cannot disable. I'm not sure if there's more than one class type to play as since I was stuck as a 10 foot tall elderly archer.
Trying to finish The Mercenaries minigame in RE4, as well. Unlocked all of the characters but the only one I can get a 5 star score with is Leon. Still fun. |
The mercinaries is far too hard for my liking. I've unlocked all the maps, and thats it.

I watched my brother play the Wither 2. For one of the 'highest rated PC games of all time', it lookes incredibly boring.
|

It seems a little bit too Monster Hunterly I think. I wasn't expecting an easy game but unapologetically difficult Capcom games always get my goat. |

Started LIMBO.
I feels so nice to play. The art is just perfect. The auto ledge grab works really fluently and allows you to focus on progressing rather than finicky jumps. The puzzles have been really interesting, albeit a tad straightforward so far. I want to play more, but Diablo 3. Also, I lost yet another slightly potted 0/8 Wizard to a godwall in Realm of the Mad God earlier. I'm getting really frustrated with it. I've never even maxed a stat. |
Play more, LIMBO's really short, I've completed it under 3,5h

Pfft.I always level fairly independently. I often get to level 12 then hug the outer godlands until I feel confident/find a necro to leech xp from.
It's the potting that's hard work. Godlands trains are really annoying for a wizard with t7 gear. Makes it really hard to deal damage to get pot drops. |
ANY1 4 TRAIN??
|
I totally loved Limbo, though, I'm ashamed to admit that I did need Youtube to help me pass a few parts.

Playing a bit of ME3 multiplayer as an Adept Drell; cannot wait to unlock the badass Turian Sentinel. I like the idea of using credits to buy packs with random content in them, it's a fun suprise. |

Oh, don't get me ranting about Yahtzee again. He's like Charlie Brooker: He's a comedian, not a critic. Watch his videos, and enjoy them. Just don't take anything he says to heart.
|
Thing is that like most comedian critics with the accentuate the negative mindset, his videos are only funny when he's 'reviewing' bad games. When he's picking flaws in good ones in a shallow attempt to be funny, it comes off as, well... a shallow attempt to be funny.
But hey, at least he's nowhere near as bad as, say, Spoony. |
:
Meanwhile, Yahtzee exists primarily to make funny videos. He exaggerates his dislike to extreme proportions and is more interested in sight gags or expletives than thoughtful criticism. And unlike Brooker, he tries to do the same even when he has nothing of value to say and doesn’t even dislike the game he’s talking about. Generally, if I read or watch something created by Brooker, I come away having learned something about the subject and usually agree with his opinion. When I watch Zero Punctuation, I don’t actually know if the game is good or not. |
