I know I'm done.

Next episode: TEH DOKTER MEETS FUDDA KISMAS.

What a waaaacky story that'll be.

Dumb, so fucking dumb. Why where the cybermen even in that? They didn't need to be, they added absolutely nothing.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The cybermen walked out looking menacing and... stood there? And then they all flew away. And then they all exploded. And then they created more cybermen(which I let slide), who stood around and did nothing. And then suddenly they were all activated? And then they all died.

The end.

STM 11-08-2014 03:10 PM

That bit where they got them to do the aeroplane hostess bit was so cringe worthy. Especially after trying to make them look edgy and scary by turning them into zombies rising from the dead five minutes earlier. How did Missy get them all under her control any way? What happened to the Cyberiad which is a thing now according to that other cyberman episode?

It is almost upsetting that they get wheeled out as a force to get knocked over but now they're not even like...important.

Also inb4 Danny saves the day because he stops being a cyberman because love. I'm basically groaning already.

Just saying...

e: Also the highlight of the episode was Missy saying MAH BOIS at the start. Made me miss Pilot.

Wil 11-08-2014 03:47 PM

Missy gave the Doctor an army to turn him evil, but he was already commander-in-chief of every army in the world and did precisely nothing with them, so no biggy. This was her motivation all along, even while she was disappointed the Doctor survived falling from the plane she made the cybermen make him fall from.

The Brig is eternally a cyberman because beloved characters are not allowed dignity.

Culmination of Clara's becoming more like the Doctor is she could recite some facts she learnt from The Name of the Doctor, and it didn't fool the cybermen anyway.

Culmination of the Doctor wondering if he was a good man a whole season ago is that he's good enough not to conquer the universe when presented with yet another opportunity. At least we learnt that.

But at least we learnt that Gallifrey still missing.

Highlight was Clara and the Doctor lying to each other, but it didn't amount to anything and nothing would be different if they'd been honest anyway.

Next season might get a cursory glance from me if the companion seems interesting, but they won't, so I won't.

Phylum 11-08-2014 05:06 PM

Oh, I forgot to mention the part where they actually explained how Missy got the bodies for the first batch of Cybermen in all of 2 seconds. Good job writing team, quality plot resolutions. These guys should collaborate with Tommy Wiseau.

Do I want to watch any of the new episodes, just for the sake of new Doctor?

Nepsotic 11-09-2014 12:00 AM

That episode was awesome! :DDD

I would give it a chance yeah. Capaldi is the single reason why I watched the season honestly.

STM 11-09-2014 08:19 AM

Pff, it's honestly not worth it. Not even Capaldi can save the train wreck that is Hoctor Do.

Phylum 11-09-2014 12:55 PM

Capaldi has been in the back seat all season. It's frustrating, because he seems like he could be quite good in a more prominent role.

Don't watch it Varrok. Head for the hills. Leave this thread and never cast your mind back to Doctor Who again.

Varrok 11-09-2014 01:32 PM

I'm outta here!

Crashpunk 11-10-2014 07:24 AM

Just watched the finale and yeah it wasn't special. But I still enjoyed it though. Mush better than the first part. Especially the end with the Doctor and Clara lying to each other. And when the Doctor found that Gallifrey is still missing.

Overall it's wasn't a awful season. I think I liked it more then most people, mostly because the Twelfth Doctor is fantastic. I hope he sticks around longer than the writers because I would hate to see him go without someone else writing better episodes for him.

Also I'm hoping that finale was the end of Clara's timeline because I'm sick of her now. I'm ready for a new companion to complain about. :tard:

That really got to me as well. It was nice to have him referenced now and then but they've destroyed that feeling now.

Nate 11-22-2014 11:40 AM

I stopped reading this thread when I fell behind on episodes. Just caught up and wanted to address a few recurring comments.

Clara's post-it notes: She was planning on telling Danny everything. She'd written the notes to prepare herself of everything she needed to say.

I'll pay that feeling pain after death is kind of grim, if nonsensical and TOTALLY UNEXPLAINED.

Unexplained in terms of 'how', but it was intentional on Missy's part because she wanted people to consciously delete their emotions. As to why she needed them to consciously do that... I dunno.

I don't think this was explicitly explained, but my theory was that there isn't just one group of Cybermen in the universe. All she'd need to do is get her hands on some conversion technology, change the programming a little, and then she'd be able to control them.

On the whole. Not the best season, but far better than everyone is ranting about. Better than season 7 by a ridiculously long way.

I was imagining the kid who had just lost a grandparent, and had them cremated. Such as myself. That was a surprising amount of existential horror for a family show.

There's a difference between terror and horror that is rarely appreciated.

Horror = Terror + Disgust.

Bullet Magnet 11-24-2014 09:52 AM

Not quite, but that might be semantic. "Revulsion" seems closer. "Disgust" implies to me a gross-out, which is often use by writers, I suppose, but is is a poor man's substitute for what should be a more cerebral response (though used correctly and sparingly it can enhance the effect). Horror requires an intellectual realisation of implications that reach far beyond your own personal safety. While terror is when there's something fearful on its way, horror is like the aftershock of the event: you're quite safe now, but in no way okay. The most extreme horror means you'll never be okay again.

You realise and understand what has happened, and it is horrible to contemplate. Existential horror is when the experience has re-educated you about reality, a comfortable veil of fiction has fallen to reveal a terrible reality behind it. One of the things I like about the Lovecraft stories is that the truths that the characters learn cannot be understood, so they are left permanently in that aftershock state and asymptote toward a mental state beyond insanity.

Ultimately what I mean is that it seems rather idiosyncratic for a family show to play with the idea that there is an afterlife, that it is the same for everyone no matter what you did in life, and the only reason grandpa is in hell is that you literally burned him yourself.

Nepsotic 11-24-2014 11:58 AM

You guys should just shut up and watch the Vsauce video on it.

The dream crabs got to me first. They must have found you from my memories, and the others were collateral damage.
How to explain away any decent basis for your episode in 5 seconds.

So let's look at these monsters for a second. They're parasites, that eat brains. So rather than just jumping on any old person, they seek out a specific one? Based on the first person they infected? Where did the others come from? Would it really have been too much trouble to explain why the 6 of them were together?

So much wanking around trying to be clever and not enough actual meat to the plot. It was painfully obvious what was going on right from when they were attacked in the infirmary.

Goddamnit I shouldn't even care at this point. I've hated almost every episode of this show for so long. Why do I keep watching it.

e: I forgot the part where the Doctor went from "I have no clue about how to conversation and won't hold hands" to Mr Heatwarming-and-Caring in the scene with old Clara. I love it when shows completely shift the tone of a character on any old whim when the change from from comedy to serious mode.

Crashpunk 12-27-2014 03:55 AM

I haven't seen the Xmas episode yet? I skipped it because it looks awful. Is it worth my time?

Nepsotic 12-27-2014 08:58 AM

Well it's the best one since 2009, but that isn't difficult.

Nate 12-28-2014 11:00 AM

I disagree with Nepsotic, but then I thought the last series had some okay episodes. It was... equally okay. I could have done with less time in Clara's dreamworld, but then Moffat needs to dote on his Mary Sues. I could have done with less of the 'Don't think about them' which is this series' 'Don't breathe', which was last series' 'Don't blink'. Especially given they were so damn inconsistent about the distance from the crabs that thinking about them would have an effect. But it was all a dream, so inconsistencies are fine.

Also, neither character asked the question of whether they were awake or asleep at the end, which - combined with Santa's sarcastic remarks about how unbelievable the Doctor is - makes me just think that Moffat wants to imply that every single episode of Doctor Who that has ever existed from 1963 was only within Clara's dream.

Wil 12-29-2014 07:25 AM

Of course they all have been. Clara just isn't pivotal and involved enough in Doctor Who canon without it!

Varrok 12-29-2014 09:01 AM

What's this annoying sound each time i visit this thread's page?

MA 01-02-2015 10:26 AM

I watched an episode where the moon turned into a giant...thing I can't quite remember and flew off. I just shut down the fucking brain-flaps and fucked off.

Nepsotic 01-03-2015 11:22 AM

Yeah, that's not a great episode. I'd say Blink is a good gateway into the series. Watch that (in the off chance that the episode you just watched didn't kill the necessary brain cells required to perform that function).

MA 01-03-2015 11:43 AM

I watch it whenever someone else has it on so yeah, I'll bear that in mind. Cheers.

STM 01-04-2015 03:38 AM

No, don't. Don't do it. Please.

Nepsotic 01-04-2015 04:16 AM

Hey, stop pretending to be Moffat, STM!

Phylum 09-19-2015 08:53 PM

I tried to watch the new DW. It just kind of dropped overnight without any fanfare over here.

The beginning was total ass. I was happy with the creepy warzone hand things and the kid. That was a cool setup for an episode. Tying it into the bigger story is even alright. But then to jump around from there like a pingpong ball and not really do anything, only to establish the plane plot? 15 minutes in and so far we have 2 unrelated kind of creepy setups...

I die a bit inside every time they mention a selfie or Twitter in an episode. Yes those things exist, but goddamn it's just trying way too hard.

I'm sick of always writing about a show I don't like though. I got 20 minutes in and I switched it off. That's it. I'm done with this show. I waste so much energy watching it and critisizing it. I hate it. It's stupid. OANST was right all along.
