Someone I know posted this on Facebook saying that Nicki Minaj is great and that her new song is really good. I tried to listen to it. I tried. What the fuck is this. What is this? Do people actually listen to this? Four people liked her post.

What you hate is not modern music. What you hate is shitty chart music, which really isn't that modern at all in terms of the way it's crafted (fundamentally, anyway). Truly modern music does not adhere to such a strict formula.

I'd love to try and see her perform that song live without the aid of miming.

I listened to the top 100 songs of last year yesterday, as voted by the people. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed quite a few songs, even through I only heard from 99 - 58. Even some of the songs I didn't really like had good ideas in them. It's a pity a majority of what the radio stations play is utter crap, but I'm pleased that people still know the good stuff from the shit.

I think you need to point out that it was on a radio station that doesn't play chart shit, primarily indie/alternative/non-mainstream-but-still-popular stuff.

This song won, extremely deservingly.

It doesn't matter what they normally play, seeing as people voted for the songs.

I'm not at all surprised that won. We all thought it would.

But (a) the majority of the people voting for the songs are Triple-J listeners and thus have predisposed tastes and (b) they only make the songs on their playlists available to vote. So there was no way that mainstream pop could venture on to the countdown.

EDIT: But but, that's besides my original point, which was that your comment about enjoying the songs, even the ones you weren't familiar with, is more meaningful with the explanation that it wasn't mainstream pop music.
