It could make the game more interesting.

Although I just prefer to give people stuff that I have an excess of and deposit things into the communal chests that everyone can use, so it might be totally pointless.

Wil 07-09-2011 12:52 PM

The trouble is, not enough people do that. I gave up a while back.

Crashpunk 07-09-2011 01:06 PM

I don't like many Minecraft Mods. I just like the original, untouched game.

Splat 07-09-2011 01:36 PM

I don't think having an economy would work with our style of doing things. The economy would be used to trade stuff, and to 'buy' plots of land to build on, I guess. But we don't have a central Master Overlord (though I do have a Dark Tower) to govern our lives or claim ownership of Everything. We're more of the 'if there's nothing there you can have it' attitude, and 'if you wanted it you shouldn't have left it lying about without a sign on it'.

STM 07-09-2011 02:55 PM

Purchasing building materials mostly, also you can buy names for area you develop so that when you enter a town it says in yellow writing: "Welcome to X town" for example. (But that is a separate plugin) And it allows for other plug ins like turnstiles which tolls you to enter an area, good for my underground tube train branch I can charge 'tickets'.

Wings of Fire 07-09-2011 03:24 PM

That's an interesting idea, but not really what I want from my minecraft experience.

STM 07-09-2011 03:32 PM

Well it's your server and your preference (also sorry if the beginning of that last post seemed disjointed and lacked sense, new page,) it works well over here but it can cause a little lag. There are always other means of making an economy, for example my brother plays a server where the currency is gold ingots, this is actually quite a good idea because it means that the economy is regulated by something which is hard to find, harder to replicate and is unlikely to crash.

We have about ten different evil lairs and fortresses scattered across the server. The problem is we have too many Overlords.

Pretty much this. It's like how EVE Online has an economy - sure, it's interesting in theory, but in practice it gets complicated real quick. I'd rather not get bogged down by bureaucracy when building giant blocky penises.

Plus, there's the fact that any economy would quickly go to shit when everyone has their own personal mine networks.

Crashpunk 07-10-2011 01:51 AM

We should make a poll wether or not to have this new economy?

enchilado 07-10-2011 03:27 AM

No.

EDIT: that is, I vote no. I don't care if there's a poll or not.

Wil 07-10-2011 04:01 AM

We could have a vote, but since 8 of the 14 current regulars have already said either they'd prefer not to or they just don't think it'd work, is there really a point?

Manco 07-10-2011 05:15 AM

If we have an economy I want it to be like Africa's - everyone makes all their money down mines, carries weapons everywhere and uses diamonds to buy better weapons.

Wings of Fire 07-10-2011 05:19 AM

The best possible use of 1.8's NPCs.

STM 07-10-2011 05:20 AM

Zombie Pigmen enslavers?

Manco 07-10-2011 05:22 AM

Don't be such a racist.

STM 07-10-2011 05:25 AM

I wasn't suggesting colonial slavery, rather, the name of the people that take workers into the mines and enforce the strict rules there.

Wil 07-10-2011 06:31 AM

I got fed up of having been a Minecraft player for almost a year and only ever having found one chunk that spawns slimes (in the mines below Genesis), so I'm taking a stand. I've found seven Chebyshevally contiguous slime chunks and I'm building a four-story slime farm spanning them all.

That's 16 × 16 × 4 × 7 = 7168 m2 for them to spawn in. Adequate lighting of the surrounding caverns and surface will boost their spawn rate, and I shall very quickly have enough slimeballs to complete my reed autofarm, which will give me enough reed to finish my library, which means I can finish building my bedroom on top of it and finally have somewhere to sleep at night.

T-nex 07-10-2011 07:12 AM

Lol all that for cosmetic value.

Splat 07-10-2011 08:33 AM

I want to work in your slime mine. My pay will be in slimeballs.

They will be the basis of our economy, and Max will be our Master.

Wil 07-10-2011 08:49 AM

Scrabino was helping me earlier. We found a lot of lava, and lost more than zero amount of diamond, diamond tools, and other valuables to it. Heeding his wisdom, I decided (by now solo) to start on the top floor and work my way down, eliminating the lava safely along the way.

So I fell in some lava and lost about 10 diamonds and 3 diamond picks. I hate this game.

Havoc 07-10-2011 12:24 PM

Server has been updated to 1.7.3 Experimental.

I'll be away on vacation for the next 5 days so the server will be running this version until then at least. I hope it works alright.

Wil 07-10-2011 03:17 PM

No weird effects so far.

Hulaabeo helped me finish off the first section of the slime farm, which is three chunks in a row. All four levels now have slimes spawning in them. There's no obvious or safe entrance yet, just a series of drops. As such, there's no exit at all, so I'll hold off giving the coords just yet. I need to check the lighting is sufficient and obviously provide safe access, which I'll hopefully have time to do tomorrow, because I won't be on for a few days after that.

Crashpunk 07-11-2011 07:24 AM

If this Poll gets started, I'm voting no.

DarkHoodness 07-12-2011 07:28 AM

Not finished yet but the main features are there:

Did you know that sheep hide when you're looking for them? But when you aren't, they spawn in droves. It's true!

Sod's law hates me.

Splat 07-12-2011 08:31 AM

You need to take your screenshots during storms.

Crashpunk 07-13-2011 10:37 AM

Why is the logo pink when its clearly yellow?

DarkHoodness 07-13-2011 11:07 AM

The logo is beige. There is no beige wool in Minecraft, and I wanted it to look different from the yellow "spray painted" logo on the factory front. The orange is a bit too orange, so I used pink instead.

EDIT: I made a topic in Fan Corner for the Rupture Farms project. Future updates will be found there.

Crashpunk 07-13-2011 01:47 PM

Why don't you use Glowstone? since the sign is glowing?

DarkHoodness 07-13-2011 02:52 PM

Answered you in the new RF topic in Fan Corner, all discussion for this should go there now.
