hm, maybe, plus they have fewer limits now that its 2.5d

Jordan 12-23-2011 04:11 AM

Do you think when Abe's Oddysee HD is released, JAW/OWI may release physical boxes as a collector's item for those who want to pay a little bit extra? I'd love all the Oddworld memorabilia I can get my hands on!

Nepsotic 12-23-2011 04:32 AM

i hope they do, but i doubt it, its not as if Limbo would

I'd very much like to buy a disk copy of Oddworld HD, I love a physical copy because it's what I'm used to, now that more and more PC games are going digital it might be an interesting little thing that makes the series stand out, even if the hard copies are more expensive.

Crashpunk 12-23-2011 07:14 AM

I've always loved hard copies of games over digital download because you actually have it in your hands. I have great memories of buying Playstation games with amazing Box art.

I doubt Abe HD or MO HD will become retail but It would be really nice.

Nepsotic 12-23-2011 07:33 AM

well now OWI's a bigger company than it used to be, who knows?

Wil 12-23-2011 08:06 AM

OWI is the smallest it's ever been. Where did you get the opposite idea?

Maybe he's thinking JAW merged with OWI, in which case that's not true afaik, they're just working together

Nepsotic 12-23-2011 08:34 AM

well, i thought that, as the oddboxx has been released, as well as stranger HD, it's getting more popular, just a thought, plus the JAW thing yeah.

Crashpunk 12-23-2011 12:04 PM

They haven't done anything 'new' so they can't really attract a new audience with new games. The remakes and ports are just to say to the fans "hello, Oddworld is back!"

Hopefully JAW will help make OWI and Oddworld come back into the popular scene

Nepsotic 12-23-2011 12:44 PM

and lets hope they succeed

At their peak, Oddworld Inhabitants had ~75 employees. JAW has... less than that.

STM 12-23-2011 05:38 PM

There's Glitch and Max and Gil.

Sekto Springs 12-23-2011 05:51 PM

I read that as "There's a Glitch in Max and Gil" and imagined the lot of them having a three-way.

Wil 12-23-2011 06:06 PM

Less than a tenth of that, in fact.

DarkHoodness 12-23-2011 06:42 PM

Aren't they recruiting? Makes me wish I was an actual artist rather than only having potential, and that I had experience in 3D modelling.

I find it a shame that the original OWI talent most likely won't be working on any of the new projects, though. Finding special people who are on par with that seems like it'll be hard - Then again there are plenty of skilled and talented people out there.

Jordan 12-24-2011 02:31 AM

It would be my dream to work for JAW.

Crashpunk 12-24-2011 02:40 AM

I've always wanted to work for Oddworld Inhabitants. I think we all have :)

Everyone has to start somewhere, even the greats like Farzard evolved in their art as they worked on later games.

Well, I'm about to start writing up my first of many beginner tutorials for people looking to get into game dev. I will be posting each one in non-oddworld gaming.

I was trying to decide what to do first, but I guess you've decided on 3D modelling for me :)

EDIT: Damn, video capture software fecked it up so I shall try again tomorrow.

If this game does merge Oddysee and Exoddus together, how about seeing some more action from the 'hungover' mudokons other than a shrug and a grone. How about have them tipsy, and when Abe attempts to communicate they give drunken retorts or try to 'follow abe' but collapse back over. Maybe just expand on their personalitys a bit more. Maybe even have the blind Muds stick their hands out infront of them a few times when walking or something.

Also a brand new idea I thought of earlier whilst playing Oddysee was maybe having control over the release of slog from slog pens. Perhaps a screen or part of a level where there a quite a few sligs that you need to get buy, and there is a lever to open up a slog pen, and if you pull it they eat whatever's on the screen and bugger off, or something along those lines. Just a concept but I think with some expansion that could be a pretty nifty thing to have in the game.

Spooce-aholic 01-22-2012 08:04 PM

Could it be possible to have day/night transitions?

skychase2rebirth 01-22-2012 08:56 PM

An easter egg with the Rupture Farms door in FeeCo.

Nepsotic 01-23-2012 08:02 AM

i don't think that was an easter egg, it was in plain view, it was just a nice reference to oddysee.

Sekto Springs 01-23-2012 08:14 AM

Wait. Is he saying to add something that was already there or what?

Nepsotic 01-23-2012 08:22 AM

does he mean a door in feeco that actually goes to RF? maybe some RF wreck or something? what do you mean? there is a door in feeco, boarded up.

Havoc 01-23-2012 08:49 AM

I do think that it would be cool to add a small section of a destroyed Rupture Farms behind a FeeCo door that you can open in a secret area.

BTW, Rupture Farms was never actually destroyed, was it? I always thought it was just shut down. I never really got why the door to RF was boarded up, one would assume the Magog Cartel would just restart the factory and bring in a new batch of slaves and security?

Nepsotic 01-23-2012 08:56 AM

mullock was head of, well, not the whole magog, but he was pretty high, so it would take a long while to get RF going again. but yes, the idea of a secret RF area would be great, maybe Abe left some mudokons there who were even forgotten by the heads, and theyre in the deepest bowles of RuptureFarms

Sekto Springs 01-23-2012 09:01 AM

Bear in mind that there's a lot of politics wrapped up in the shutting down of RuptureFarms. For one, it represented a significant investment for the Magog, and Molluck's failure to manage it resulted in his criminalization. Secondly, RF was dismantled by a Mudokon terrorist, and that alone demands damage and rumor control to protect future cartel investments.

Taking all that into consideration, it only makes sense that access to RuptureFarms would be restricted from the public while it's being renovated and/or investigated.

Nepsotic 01-23-2012 09:20 AM

yeah, but secreat areas have secret entrances, that maybe not even the magog know about.

STM 01-23-2012 12:21 PM

How can the Magog Cartel not know about entrance into one of their own facilities? That's like a Microsoft Factory having an underground tunnel in it...

Havoc 01-23-2012 01:32 PM

Or Windows having a backdoor... Wait...

That's not the perfect analogy. Microsoft makes its products in the first world. Its buildings meet safety requirements. The Glukkon factories we've seen are in the third world. Their construction could have been done by unreputable firms with no intent of following any guidelines. In fact, is there any evidence of their OSHA compliance?

Manco 01-23-2012 02:04 PM

The construction of secret underground entrances to factories just seems like a needless expenditure to me. I doubt any construction firm on Oddworld would waste money like that.

In addition to what others said, remember that there is only a day or two between Abe shutting down RuptureFarms and when he's in Feeco. They wouldn't have had the time to bring over the manpower and other resources to kickstart the business again.

Also, in the original plan for MO, RuptureFarms was meant to be re-opened, but not as a meat factory. Can't rememeber what, though.

Not really. He was a low-level schmo who only looked powerful because we hadn't seen the rest of the Cartel.

What if the construction was done by Mudokon labour?

Bear in mind that Abe found a secret entrance back in to RuptureFarms. That said, it makes no sense to suggest that Feeco Depot would connect up to a secret entrance.

Havoc 01-23-2012 04:58 PM

Abe found a secret entrance? I'd hardly call that entrance secret :p The only thing missing was arrows pointing at it.

Considering there's already a Rupture Farms door in Feeco depot, this statement is just redundant. It took Havoc to actually flesh out the idea for you. If you suggest something, try and be clear next time.
