i read about nikola tesla that he also said that he saw that there are sub atoms faster than light...
also i read that the scientists found some evidence that there are oceans of water underneath plutos crust that appeared probably from charons rotation making some kind of friction in pluto and warming it up.

You're probably thinking about Europa, rather than Pluto.

As for Tesla... he said a lot of crazy shit.

Scraby 09-30-2011 12:48 AM

yeah but tesla invented alternating current,he was smarter than most of the people in his time,i read one of his journals when he was still a child and he did say lots of things that came true in the future...

Strike Witch 09-30-2011 03:02 AM

He also blew up Tungska.

That's undeniably true. But that doesn't mean that everything he said was true. He was an inventor and engineer, not a theoretical physicist.

STM 09-30-2011 06:32 AM

Rather, he knew how things worked but some of his explanations were at fault?

More like, he didn't know how things worked so he came up with ideas that were utterly impossible.

STM 09-30-2011 11:03 PM

Haha, standard.

Scraby 10-01-2011 03:24 AM

well i had an original journal of tesla and i read it,so i found an experiment that makes free electricity enought to power your cell phone,i tried it and it worked, but one peace of it is quite hard to find so it took me some time...

STM 10-01-2011 03:29 AM

Wow! Any chance you could show the schematics?

Scraby 10-01-2011 04:48 AM

sure i will, but first i need to go trough the book to find it.

Dixanadu 10-01-2011 11:51 AM

I have free electricity anyway.

Ha ha.

Scraby 10-13-2011 11:27 AM

i have read something interesting, that scientists found out that in a part of the black hole photons and matter can exist,so they think that there might even be life there...

Remember, the truer mark of intelligence is stating your views and knowledge in an understandable way, rather than using big specialized words.

That's not a good reason not to use big words, especially with an audience this intelligent. You learned something, even if you did the legwork yourself.

AlexFili 10-25-2011 12:07 AM

I'm interested in seeing what people think about how aliens are represented in fiction. If you could go here and complete a little survey that would be really helpful. I'll relay the answers in this topic. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MDDCTNN

When I wrote the first draft of my paper (now available by a simple Google Scholar search, woot), I read it over and actually thought to myself "This is too understandable. I should include more jargon." :p

It just makes you think: how did people create the image that we now think of as an alien from outer space? Pale skin, huge foreheads, and big black eyes; did they get it from some type of special monkey or something? I also happen to find it interesting that they will make the aliens have two arms, two legs, stomachs, skin, and other physical features similar to a human's almost 95% of the time. Is there some history lesson that I've missed, or am I giving one of the best guesses that anyone here can think of for the foundation of our vision of aliens?

Scraby 10-26-2011 03:14 AM

there are probably lots of different aliens, some near humans some humanoids, some reptilian some bird like, the possibilities are endless :)

T-nex 10-26-2011 04:11 AM

I like HR Gigers aliens more. I wish they existed.... But I'd probably only observe them from afar.

I don't have any references to quote, but I believe there was one famous case in the '50s in which a self-claimed abductee drew a picture of his tormentors that resembled what we would call a Grey. It got enough attention worldwide that later people drew inspiration (consciously or unsconsciously) from his concept.

They probably would not look like anything that you listed. They are all clades that have evolved on earth; think of the simplest unicellular organisms and the most unusual fungi and realise that we , albeit very distantly, are related. What would something we are not at all related to look like?

Definitely not like anything that has evolved due to the unique conditions of the earth.

Dixanadu 10-26-2011 07:15 AM

There was a documentary on last month saying if the dinosaurs weren't wiped out, they'd probably evolve into a dino-man-thing.

The clay replica of what it would look like was nothing short of terrifying.

MeechMunchie 10-26-2011 08:49 AM

The last show I saw featuring that theory had it immediately followed by a bunch of scientists saying it was complete bullshit.

Cockroaches found their niche, and have only evolved to better fit that niche i.e. not much. Dinosaurs would have just got more and more dinosaur-y.

Dixanadu 10-26-2011 09:02 AM

I'd like to see a sapient alien race that evolved to fit the niche of the apex predator.

Tyrannosaurus Alan.

MeechMunchie 10-26-2011 09:20 AM

Intelligence is pretty much an alternative route for animals with no physical dominance. It seems kind of unlikely.

Scraby 10-26-2011 09:42 AM

i didnt mean that it would look anything like on earth, but you can sort em into groups, there is always a chance for it,depends on the conditions on the planet they evolved from, they might evolve similarly like humans, they might be all wierd and sloppy, they might be reptile like(not like our reptiles certanly) or they might be some kind of another intergalactic branch of evolution.if we give a chance what would it take to have a planet that has near human species, its like if you give infinite number of monkeys to write, one will eventually have a full text of shakespeare

Wings of Fire 10-26-2011 09:53 AM

Compare

The chance for the monkeys to produce the full works of Shakespeare (Us)

The chance for the monkeys to produce the full works of Shakespeare with a single typo reading 'Romulan and Juliet' (Dinomen)

The chance of two planets with the evolutionary conditions present to produce both is infinitely small, and that's before factoring in for chaos theory.

Bullet Magnet 10-26-2011 10:54 AM

That upright dinosauroid was a textbook case of humanoid chauvanism. They had a perfectly good bipedal form with grasping hands to begin with, thank you very much.

Here they've been given essentially a perfect human skeleton, with only the fingers, toes and skull differing. Pure nonsense! The barriers to that evolutionary direction are huge, and the destination of sapience from the dinosaur form has so many easier routes. Incidentally, two groups of dinosaurs have almost got there now: the Passerines have produced the crows and the psittacines have produced the macaws, greys and amazons.

One of my favourite palaeoartists Nemo-Ramjet produced a more realistic alternative to the humanoid dinosauroid, inspired by ground hornbills

And even gave them cave art, drawn with authentic tools and media using his teeth and hands held the way his creatures do.

He did, as revisiting the humanoid dinosauroid, try producing an authentic upright posture, but this was as close has he could justify.

MeechMunchie 10-26-2011 01:09 PM

Is that a scrotum or just a really manky penis?

Scraby 10-26-2011 01:30 PM

well alien evolution discussion can be quite well discussed with,i read a story from a man that escaped from the american government facility at area 51 ,unfortunately he was strangled to death in 1996 two weeks before publishing the books about the secrets of aliens,he described 4 races,1st race was a slim short big headed humanoid being,2nd one was a tall reptilian race,3rd was somekind of orange 4 limbed creature and the 4th were 6 fingered small stubby creatures with one lung. And as he described it he met one in area 51.

Wings of Fire 10-26-2011 01:35 PM

Surely if he was murdered two weeks before publishing a book then the publishing firm would have retained a copy of the manuscript?

Manco 10-26-2011 01:40 PM

They must have gotten his description of the species from somewhere.

Wings of Fire 10-26-2011 01:42 PM

So why did the publishers just not publish it? Were they scared away by his murder? If so why didn't they just burn the manuscript and why do people know about this?

Dinosaurs did evolve into a dino-man-thing, they're called homo sapiens.

you may find some texts on the internet from his friend,he saw the pictures and stuff, but the documents, and pictures were stolen when he died that day, also the publishers got scared.... to bad :( i would really like to read that book.

Well as we know, birds are dinosaurs. And there was that memorable time when Plato was much praised for providing Socrates' definition of man "a featherless biped" to which in response Diogenes the Cynic presented a plucked chicken. "Behold! I have brought you a man."

"...with broad nails" was later added to the definition.
