It's incredibly good, start at Guards Guards.

STM 09-13-2010 08:39 AM

Shouldn't I start with The Colour of Magic? Also, what's it about mainly

Really don't. Guards Guards! is where it changes from an above par fantasy to a massively fun deconstruction series of basically everything. Also it's the first City Watch book and that's my favourite plotline.

STM 09-13-2010 08:51 AM

Might get it, first I want to read 1984, then the LoTR trilogy and maybe one other LOTR related film.

Mine is the Rincewind & Twoflower series.

Wings of Fire 09-13-2010 09:24 AM

But but Night Watch.

MeechMunchie 09-13-2010 09:28 AM

But but Eric

Wings of Fire 09-13-2010 09:29 AM

If I had to pick a favourite from the Rincewind books I'm damn sure it wouldn't be Eric.

Interesting Times, bitch.

MeechMunchie 09-13-2010 09:34 AM

Interesting Times was #2 for the R&Ts. It moves a bit slowly at the start.

Dynamithix 09-13-2010 10:24 AM

I picked up two books at a sale yesterday, Dr. Who - The Clockwise Man and a thriller called Anna Online.

Anna Online.

That sounds almost biographical.

Dynamithix 09-13-2010 10:30 AM

It seems very interesting. I'm currently reading the Dr. Who one.

Wings of Fire 09-13-2010 10:35 AM

It was very interesting, but it had a horrible ending.

I'm interested to see how bad the end is.

Wings of Fire 09-13-2010 10:46 AM

I haven't read the book. I was making a self indulgent joke.

Dynamithix 09-13-2010 12:24 PM

Liar!

OANST 09-13-2010 01:40 PM

I just started House of Leaves. I'm not sure if I like it yet.

I just started All Quiet on the Western Front for my history class. Eerie to say the least.

Phylum 09-13-2010 09:17 PM

Puckoon by Spike Milligan.

It's a surreal book. I have 10 pages left to read and there's been minimal plot. I was reading it in my doctor's waiting room today and I found myself unable to stop laughing after reading an interesting moment of author intevention that saw characters walking up from seemingly nowhere and then retreating on one leg while making animal calls.

Mudokon_Master 09-13-2010 11:45 PM

I am reading, "Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan". 'Tis very good.

MeechMunchie 09-14-2010 12:47 AM

WoF:

After consulting the scriptures, I have realised that Rincewinds companion through time and space in Eric is not Twoflower, but is in fact Eric. In light of this my favorite in the Rincewind & Twoflower series (TCoM, TLF, IT & TLC) is The Last Continent. Strictly speaking, Twoflower isn't in it, but it does deal with the aftermath of Interesting Times.

I do like Interesting Times, it's just that 70% of my like is on the last 20% of the book. I felt that not much happens until The Silver Horde take over the city.

For me, the best Discworld books contain:

Rincewind
The Luggage
The Silver Horde
Death
Albert
Ponder Stibbons
The general faculty of The Unseen University
The Unseen University itself
Hex

Sam Vimes
Detritus
Lord Vetinari
Rincewind

Hex

I fixed that for you

MeechMunchie 09-14-2010 05:13 AM

I knew you'd say something like that. I never was particularly interested in the A-MW. But then again, I don't like normal cop dramas either. Corporal Nobbs is the only character in the watch I was ever particularly interested in. Thud! was the only Watch book I particularly enjoyed.

I'd like to say that I liked it but I really didn't.

That being said, I did enjoy it moreso than Only Revolutions.

Strike Witch 09-28-2010 02:51 AM

I just finished a book called Kraken by China Mieville.

I wasn't particularly impressed.

enchilado 09-28-2010 02:58 AM

@ MM:

You missed Vetinari!

@ WoF:

You didn't missed Vetinari!

@ all o' ya:

Rincewind's a dopey sod who gets pretty boring, to tell the truth. Twoflower... I haven't read about Twoflower in a while, but I remember him as being... well, I don't remember.

The best characters, in my opinion, are Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg. And the Nac Mac Feegle.

Wings of Fire 09-28-2010 03:54 AM

Nanny Ogg is love, yes.

MeechMunchie 09-28-2010 08:17 AM

I like the Librarian.

I'm reading George Orwell's Ninteen Eighty Four. Hauntingly plausible.

STM 09-28-2010 08:39 AM

So want to get 1984!!!!

We're already heading that way though.

1984 is an amazing book though.

I r reading the Necrocomicon. Pretty much almost the entire collection of H.P. Lovecraft's short stories and novels. Its a difficult read and the racism is hilarious, but still brilliant.

Inbetween stories I have been reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Very odd and a bit slow nevertheless a very interesting read

OANST 09-29-2010 06:44 AM

I quit reading American Gods about three chapters in. I couldn't get over how stupid the main character's name was. It irked me too much.

There's a huge point to his name revealed further in.

OANST 09-29-2010 07:45 AM

I just don't think that anything could make "Shadow" more appealing to me.

STM 09-29-2010 07:46 AM

Is Lovecraft worth reading, also do I need ot read books in a certain order or is it all good? I was very tempted to buy but have little knowledge of the books plot

RyuuFox 09-29-2010 08:06 AM

Im reading War of the Worlds by H.G Well This book is awesome!

Nope no specific order what so ever. Because his stuff was published in pulp magazines in the 1920s he couldn't have a specific order.

STM 10-04-2010 12:13 PM

Many thanks, I think I will get 1984 and C'thulu for xmas

Mr. Bungle 10-04-2010 01:29 PM

I read The Call of Cthulu the other day. It was pretty awesome, as was expected.
