OANST 06-21-2012 03:09 PM

Yeah, but you like Keane. So, it's okay.

Mr. Bungle 06-21-2012 03:09 PM

You obviously haven't listened to much Modest Mouse then, Meech. And even if you don't really dig the music, you gotta appreciate Isaac's lyrics. They're brilliant.

I'm posting Modest Mouse on a ten-year-old Mac, how hipster am I?

/thickrimmedglasses

OANST 06-21-2012 03:13 PM

He calls it boring droning, and you play those two songs? Jimminy Christmas, man.

There. Now it's been done RIGHT.

MeechMunchie 06-21-2012 03:15 PM

@Bungle Oh, I can appreciate the lyrics in anything. But the music's just dull. I like my music to be a little more... stimulating. Hence Tom Chaplin (Keane guy) busting his lungs out.

EDIT: OANST did it better. There's more passion there. Now we just need a coherent tune and we're all set!

OANST 06-21-2012 03:17 PM

Heh. Cute.

MeechMunchie 06-21-2012 03:20 PM

It's adorable when people get things wrong by not agreeing with you. Oh, the perils of youth...

OANST 06-21-2012 03:25 PM

It's just that those albums are pretty much universally considered masterpieces. It's not extraordinarily musical, I can give you that. But as art, quality, thoughtful, heartfelt art, there is so little that compares to Modest Mouse's greatest four albums.

Mr. Bungle 06-21-2012 04:29 PM

I was posting more lyric-based songs, but yeah. If Teeth Like God's Shoeshine doesn't impress you nothing will.

MeechMunchie 06-22-2012 03:45 AM

Well that's the thing, I guess. I never really believed that a musician is pushing themselves to their artistic limit unless they're also pushing themselves to their physical limit.

Anyway, this argument is stupid. In the grand Venn Diagram of popular culture, the intersection between OANST's bubble and mine is a tiny, tiny sector; just big enough to write "Fleet Foxes" in little squashed-up handwriting.

It's beyond never being able to convince the other person - we don't even have any common ground to use in arguments.

Anyway, back to music in general.

OANST 06-22-2012 06:05 AM

I wasn't really trying to argue with you. Taste is taste, and there's no accounting for it, or convincing someone of something that doesn't fit their taste.

However, art is not something that is so simple to qualify as "How technically impressive is it". Refined musicianship has it's place, but it's not the end all of the conversation. If the greatest technical painter in the world drew nothing but pictures of boobs, and cheese it wouldn't be great, or even good art. It may be a very well done painting, but that doesn't mean that it's "good". However, if someone whose style is somewhat sloppy in the technical sense, but they use that sloppiness to convey their heart breaking at seeing the world that they love being replaced with something cheap, and their hatred of their own inability to be effective in making the world a better place, if their paintings allow you to know yourself better than you had before viewing it because it's honest, it's sincere, and it's goddamn beautiful in it's ugliness, well, that's great art. And that's what Modest Mouse is.

Mr. Bungle 06-22-2012 11:58 AM

So in MM's mind this is the best song ever:

MY BAND SHOUTS LOUDER THAN YOURS

OANST 06-22-2012 03:36 PM

One last attempt. Try this:

MeechMunchie 06-22-2012 03:39 PM

It was alright. I never like songs first time anyway, I'd have to listen to it on a loop for a week to to appreciate the subtleties first.

OANST 06-22-2012 03:41 PM

The song is seven and a half minutes long. You posted that it was alright three minutes after I posted it. Even if you were to have started the song a second after I posted it you still would have only listened to half. The song has "suites", and incorporates pretty much everything you wanted from music. Had you listened to it. Dick.

MeechMunchie 06-22-2012 03:47 PM

I just told you, man, I'm not going to listen to it once. I'll either listen to it a dozen times or no times at all, probably the former. But I want to go to bed and didn't want to leave you hanging. Is that such a crime?

EDIT: Oh, and "incorporates pretty much everything you wanted from music" is quite a large assumption.

OANST 06-22-2012 03:50 PM

LIAR!

MeechMunchie 06-22-2012 03:52 PM

I'm really not. It's ten to one in the morning over here.

Okay, I also got bored of the song and turned it off, but I'd assumed that was because I was tired.

OANST 06-22-2012 03:53 PM

For shaaaaaaame.

MeechMunchie 06-22-2012 03:55 PM

And before you come in with "If you want to go to bed, why are you here?", I was waiting for you to post, you arrogant old fart.

OANST 06-22-2012 03:56 PM

Boooooooooooo

Wings of Fire 06-22-2012 03:57 PM

cute

OANST 06-22-2012 03:57 PM

@Spooceahlolic STOP FUCKING POSTING A DAY TO REMEMBER IN HERE THEY'RE TERRIBLE

I don't like Metal music either, but the acoustic version of Another Song About the Weekend is very beautiful. Listen to it if you don't believe me.

Dynamithix 06-22-2012 05:16 PM

No it's fucking shit and you are fucking shit.

OANST 06-22-2012 05:46 PM

That was mean, but not inaccurate.

Spooce-aholic 06-22-2012 05:52 PM

I think Dynamithix is in love with me.
