I DivX encoded the portion which features oddworld characters that I recorded on Wednesday. If somebody can give me something in the manner of hosting space, you can have it before Friday.

oddguy 03-11-2004 02:16 PM

I have the "Game Over" Oddworld Cameo, and the "X-Factor" Oddworld Segments uploaded onto two seperate quicktime mov files. All I need now is Abe Babe to upload them to Oddworld-Web. Or have someone else host them for the time being.

you can ask Aba Babe or Haylay.

As I've explained to Oddguy, the problem with hosting such large files, is that it very quickly depletes our bandwidth per month. Each month we use and average of 8 GB, of the 12 GB we are alotted.

With the addition of such large files, not only will the server be drained by downloading so much information (not to mention I'm sure there will be quite a few people downloading it) but our bandwidth will be eaten. As we are on a Shared Host, other websites complain if their own site is slow, and we will be told to halt it.

We are currently trying other avenues. Although, if anyone does have some space that has heaps of bandwidth, do tell

oddguy 03-12-2004 05:57 PM

Yes, a large amount of bandwidth would be great. And here's an idea...

Whoever hosts this file doesn't have to host it forever. Just have it up for a limited time.(then you can get rid of it) As long as people like Xav, Alcar, Abe Babe etc see it, I'm happy. I really couldn't care less for people that I don't know and aren't OWF members. ;)

A lightbulb just clicked behind the spiderwebs in my little mind. I could always show you guys screen captures of the OW cameo in "Game Over!" ;) Yes, watching it is much better. Especially because the clip is dark and it's easier to see the cameos when they're in a nice fluid motion. Anyway, while you're all waiting for the hosting of the quicktime mov issue to get sorted out, I have the next best thing.

Here's some screen captures...

The story behind this scene is that the Smashenburns want to get rid of their newly aquired pet, named Turbo. So, they've decided to dump him off at a toxic waste dump...where the paramites, scrabs and slogs seem to live in abundance. :fuzwink:

That looks...interesting.

oddguy 03-12-2004 07:08 PM

Yeah, writing on "Game Over" really wasn't up to par with what I'd consider Oddworld worthy of.

Alcar 03-12-2004 08:03 PM

Those screens look great

As for the movies. Maybe I could upload the smaller movie file, but only to a few select members, as I really don't want our bandwidth to be used up so fast.

The toughest part would be uploading it.

Alcar...

crabby 03-13-2004 04:42 AM

I put the DivX encoded video on my own server, hosted from my computer. If you can stand the slow speed then this is good for you.

oddworld_gameover.avi
2:54 - 352x240
18515968 bytes (17.65 megs)

oddguy 03-13-2004 05:31 AM

What is it with these new people stealing my thunder?

Oh well, the size is considerably smaller than my quicktime mov.

Xavier 03-13-2004 06:21 AM

thanks oddguy for the screens! and thanx crabby for the movie!
I will post about on oddblog later

Looks like "Game Over" has already been taken care of. Phew!

Now we just need to deal with "X-Factor," if we even deal with it at all.

I liked your idea of only showing it to a few choice OWF members, which is what I wanted in the first place.

Okay, upload the file overnight, host it on the server and hide it behind a password that only the choice OWF members will have access to. Then, initiate a line download process. A one-at-a-time download system. Once a person had finished downloading, the line moves along so the next person can download. Keep the file up for a week, then you could dump it.

Okay, after downloading the file, I suggest burning it onto a CD, because this is a huge 11 minute file...then clear it off your Hard Drive.

I hope this works. If not, I could always send a Burned CD copy to a couple choice members.

hey Oddguy, do you have MSN?
If you do I realy would love to have the bigger version of the GameOver snippet

oddguy 03-13-2004 10:39 AM

Yes I have MSN.

I'll get on right now.

OWI posted the video on their site!

oddguy 03-26-2004 10:14 AM

Great! That makes me feel better. Uploading my movie was going to be torture. Yes, I admit.

-oddguy

Seargentbig 03-27-2004 06:40 PM

I tried downloading the movie at OWI, but it didn't work, I only got the sound!

Alcar 03-27-2004 09:00 PM

Yes, same here. It might be because of versions issues though, as I'm not the most up to date kind of guy.

Alcar...

Xavier 03-28-2004 03:43 AM

try to download the latest version of QuickTime ;)

Alcar 03-28-2004 08:22 PM

Yes, I actually did that last night, along with the latest RealPlayer as well :p

Apparently only QuickTime plays .mov files.

Alcar...

Wil 03-29-2004 04:57 AM

I get a semi-decent video with QuickTime Player 6.5, although with crabby's longer file, which covers the whole scene, I do only get sound and no video. I tried downloading the latest DivX codecs, but that didn't help either.

Nate 03-29-2004 11:24 AM

This video is the first time that we have seen paramites and scrabs together. I wonder how closely OWI followed production of the show to stop them from doing something that would not fit in with the spirit/ecology of oddworld

oddguy 03-29-2004 11:27 AM

Hehe, my movie works perfect. The only problem is its size. In the file world, larger is not better. :p

I don't think you should see this linked to the quintoligy, Oddworld probably just gave permision to use their characters and species and let them do what they wanted with it. See it as an inbtween joke :).

Mac the Janitor 03-29-2004 02:36 PM

Yeah, it was a simple cameo. I wouldn't get too worked up on it if I were you.

Xavier 03-30-2004 04:58 AM

It's just something fun...
I quite liked it!!!

paramiteabe 03-30-2004 05:15 AM

Yeah it was decient they should have also put in Munch doing some tricks in his wheel chair. Like a pop a wheely.

Paramiteabe... :fuzblink:

Havoc 03-30-2004 11:14 AM

that would have been fun to see :) How about putting in a glukkon police officer giving them a ticket for being on a private property (being the waste dump).

Nate 03-30-2004 02:01 PM

:

I wasn't worked up, I was just wondering how much input OWI had had (cos they probably wouldn't have done it that way) or if - like Havoc said - they just gave them the CG models and permission to do what they wanted (which in itself seems out of character for OWI)

Havoc 03-30-2004 03:29 PM

I just rememberd something, there is one place where we have seen paramites and scrabs together: being the presentation area where Abe get after AO and at the beginning of AE.

oddguy 03-30-2004 04:06 PM

That's right. When everyone is cheering for Abe after saving 99 mudokons. There was a Paramite and a Scrab, each atop a pillar.

Mac the Janitor 03-30-2004 04:32 PM

But yeah, that's like a symbolic ceremonial thing...yeah.

In other news, I can put my hair in a ponytail.

Me too, it just looks rather stupid with hair as curly as mine.

Havoc 03-31-2004 12:35 PM
