Cloverfield 01-23-2002 05:46 AM

I wasn't going to respond to this topic... as Sydney had previously told me about the future of Oddworldian, and I respect that he has to do what he has to do.

What saddens me is that many people are "judging" the game without even seeing of it. And that many people have turned away from Oddworld. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that is certainly fine. I just think you should at least wait to see what the game is like before judging (rent an Xbox and Munch if you can't afford to buy one).

Oddworld is a lot more than just the games. Yes, there is a whole universe out there that we have yet to explore, but there is much more to Oddworld than that. Oddworld brings with it a message, a message that more people need to find out about in this world. And if that means giving the game more of a mass appeal, then that may just be what has to be done. Lorne said his goal is to have the Inhabitants in every home.

One thing this post has been able to determine, is the "true" fans. Once again, there is not a problem with just being a normal fan. But a true fan will stick by Oddworld no matter what. I am one of such people. Oddworld means too much to me to just go and turn away from it. And if there are changes, I grow with them and change with them. That's just me though. And there are other fans like that out there too.

MrBoj... believe me, Oddworld is not a "kiddie" game... I don't know where that concept came from, as it's far from your Pokemon or Mario Bros.

Finally, I just want to say, that it is good you guys still want to stay on the forums... after all our members are what makes our forums. And remember, you can always choose to visit Oddworld-Web for Oddworld news... I'm not planning on a closure any time ever. (Ok, blantant plug for advertising there).

Or just think of it this way... Oddworldian.net is the forums, Oddworld-Web is the Oddworld Website, OddChat is the chat room. It's just a bit different now. :)

Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Woohoo! Yes! Well said, Abe Babe! I couldn't have put any of that better myself! I want everyone who reads this to know that I second everything that she has just said.

Niteowl 01-23-2002 09:15 AM

I've hung in there since the GT board's blue and yellow forum...Guess you can call me a veteran..
I'm all to familiar with the lassitude that comes with finding a website I'd enjoyed is going kaput...Guess it can't be helped. Oddworldian was the best of them..
Happens with all of em..
Last year, Rivenguild also went down...I wasn't too happy about that either...

I watched the move to X-box and watched people b!tch about it..That Sobe thing? I tried it recently and I love the stuff...I'll grab the Lizard over the Dew...Don't see what people are so POed about there..
I only hope Microsoft won't ruin what made Oddworld so good..
From the screenshots of MO, I like what I see...
Probably Oddworld is the only reason for me to get an X-box...What the hey, maybe by waiting a few months, maybe the bugs will be all worked out...
Heh, If I could afford to rent an X-box for the time it'll take me to get used to a console, and the time I go back to play Oddworld games- I may as well buy it...
Hey if I want to rent a movie every day for two weeks, I'm gonna want to own it...

OWI does listen to it's fans...Somebody mentioned fireflies returning, even if they're just in the background- They liked that...
If there are certain elements that people liked, OWI just might try to bring that back in other games.....I loved the music in AO- save points were a pain....The music in AE was okay, liked the quicksave...And they ditched things that too many people hated, like bats..

Sooooooooooooo....

How many of us are gonna plant snapdragons this spring?

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 01-23-2002 01:14 PM

No, My cousin has MO and I was playing it. It's not like the other oddworld games that Lorne Made. I mean it's good but something's missing to make it more oddworld.

Hi I'm back! :D

I am sad to see Oddworldian : ( go, but I respect Sydney's choice. It makes me happy :D that the forums are still online.

MrBoj 01-23-2002 02:27 PM

this is all very disheartening, yet, as time goes on, I find myself changing as well. In any case, this all sounds so familiar, this supposed change in the atmosphere of the game. I've seen it in many forms of medium. Still, undaunted, I will linger on, and see for myself if Oddworld has really changed.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 01-23-2002 05:08 PM

Who's going to run oddworldian then?

One, Two, Middlesboogie 01-23-2002 05:27 PM

Nobody. Hence this topic's title: Oddworldian's gone for good...

paramiteabe 01-24-2002 03:36 AM

Hey MrBoji cool I like how you view Oddworld. I view it in a similar fashon. Oddworld is more than just a game it's something very strong in story. I respect Sydney for what he is doing. He is just wanting to move on. You know you can't do the same thing for the rest of your life. It just gets boring. All things Must pass. Thats just the way things are in this world. I for one am going to stay with Oddworld because it's something I can relate to. I believe my future is based on Oddworld. It is an art that I enjoy to the fullest. I use Oddworld in my art and I hope I could create something just as beautiful as Oddworld. I have the Imagination and the desire so I believe I could acomplish such a task. All of you are a wounderful bunch of people who love and desire the same thing I like, that is Oddworld. Yes it is sad to see some things go but it's not the end. It will never be the end for me. And thats whats important. Perhaps some of you don't like it anymore. Thats ok too. Thats what makes are world so unieque. What I have read among all of you is something great. Be anouther sydney and do something too. I might some day actully create a web site like Oddworldian but in my own vision. So I could leave a mark in the art of Oddworld. Thankyou
Paramiteabe ;)

Molluck2000 01-24-2002 03:44 AM

oh well...... there goese that meeting on oddchat...... oddchat is kinda emty lately....... we need more people there!!!!

Teal 01-24-2002 06:52 AM

Funny, are all us longtime forummers losing interest? (No, I haven't read the whole thread, I've only got ten minutes before by exam and thought I'd add a two-pennorth before I go.) I thought it was just me. Oh well. It's weird - I still have my fics and suchlike, and still love to write, but... I don't know, something in my mind seems to have disconnected my fics with the "actual" universe - the "Games universe", I suppose. So technically my mind thinks I'm not writing Oddworldly stuff at all... Any other fic-types get that...?

Narf, enough ramble. Seeyas round, people.

Surfacing 01-24-2002 11:39 AM

This may say crazy but abe-babe seeing that u r a true oddworldian fan y can't u take over of oddworldian.net? u should ask Syd i doubt he would say no, but he does have his reasons, well i vote for abe-babe to take over. :D

Sydney 01-24-2002 12:05 PM

Surfacing, Abe Babe is quite happy with her own Oddworld fan site. Oddworldian has finished, it will never be seen again. :)

I must admit I feel slightly guilty. Oddworld Inhabitants have provided Oddworldian with a lot of support over the couple of years while it was running. But again, there's no point in continuing it if my interest in Oddworld's direction has been extinguished.

Abe Babe, not to be argumentative, but I Have to say I disagree with your definition of a "true fan." I considered myself a true fan, but I didn't stick with Oddworld throughout the changes. If something changes so much that it even sheds the elements that originally appealed to you, then your connection to it is nothing more than obsessive fanaticism. But you are happy with the changes because your tastes are different. If I were to keep my site up and continue with it, I'd be a mindless, obsessive fanatic, because the changes didn't suit my tastes - hardly a "true fan." I'm still a fan of Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus, but that could hardly fuel my site.

And Sydney,

Cool new personal photo. The robes remind me of the post you made that if you owned huge peice of land and were King of it.

Its' really neat. Did you make it yourself?

Danny 01-24-2002 07:53 PM

I think Mr. Boj is missing my point. The fact that Oddworld is more than a computer game is the whole reason why I don't like what I have seen of MO. After providing us with two games that we could at least pretend to believe were real, they seemed to go out of their way to remind us that MO was just a computer game, what with the brightly-coloured landscapes, the Spooce, the "Health", etc. I didn't lose interest with Oddworld because I knew it was just a computer game, I lost interest in Oddworld because it became just a computer game...

SeaRex 01-24-2002 07:58 PM

Well, to all you vets that happen to be leaving or losing interest, Spamn' Dan and I offer you a solemn, respectable Good Bye.

Searex, NOBODY is leaving... We have lost interest in Oddworld to some degree, but we remain on the Forums because of the people here...

[Although sometimes I wonder why I bother... Mentioning no names...]

Cloverfield 01-25-2002 01:53 AM

Sorry if I offended you in any way Sydney... my post was meant to be a general consensus of the situation and not directed at you at all. As I understand your reasons for taking Oddworldian down, and as I said in my last post I respected them.

I guess my view of a true fan differs from yours (and in fact both of our views may differ from the next person again). My view is that the "fandom" runs deeper than just the games, therefore why I accept the changes and can see that it is time to move to the next stage. But once again that is just me.

But I go agree with you... from your point of view it would have been pointless to keep Oddworldian going. I'm not trying to say that you weren't a true fan in the past (or aren't still of the first two games), just that you are different from me in that the fandom may be based "on the games".

OK, I'd better shut up now before I say anything wrong.

Abe Babe...

1. By leaving I meant the members that will only be checking back occasionaly. Hell, even OddBod came back post once or twice. I've also noticed at least 2-3 people who have done the same. Eibu... Wise Abe... etc. Perhaps more clarification in my posts is in order...
2. Which is why I said "or lost interest." You would be a good example, Rettick. As in, you seem to have lost interest in oddworld, but you are still an active member. Hmmm... I can see where the confusion is coming from now...
3. I'm going to assume you aren't talking about me. If you aren't, than there is no need for further explaination...

I have been gone for 2 weeks on a holiday and i come back to find Oddworldian dead!

I guess it is your choice, and like many things i choose to stand by it. I hope that you've made that right choice, and by the sounds of it with yourself you have.

Well all i can say is that we have all seen a huge website boasting with imagination and creativity be laid to rest...

Alf 02-03-2002 01:05 AM

Dear Sydney,
You have been a wonderful fan and we at Oddworld loved Oddworldian.net
It was well written and produced with a lot of class. I will truly miss your site. You are the kind of fan a franchise can only dream of having. Oddworldian.net will go into the hall of fame of Oddworld fansites.
I'm sorry you lost interest in Oddworld. It's been a hard journey for us and especially our fans. The reality of business is difficult. Oddworld is a young company and we are learning. It breaks my heart that you have lost interest. It was a pleasure Sydney. Best of luck to you. You are a fine young man. It's been a blast, keep in touch!
Alf

Even though i havent said anything about Oddworldian going, (well i guess its gone) I thought id post and say it was a very sucessful site, which i enjoyed browsing through, I came across these forums from Oddworldian.

Im still a fan of Oddworld and what Abe Babe stated in the above message is true and I agree to it..

Kk, im rambling now >_>;;

Sydney 02-04-2002 04:07 AM

Thanks very much for the kind words Alf, and thankyou especially for the support you've provided to me and Oddworldian. I've enjoyed running the site very much from February 2000 to January 2002, I don't regret a minute of it.

I'm certain Oddworld will go far, and these forums will be around for a long time to come for Oddworld fans to mingle with each other. :)

ODDBODD 02-04-2002 11:39 AM

if we look on the bright side.. now abe babe has no competition to be the no. 1 oddworld site in town. No offence to anyone offended by the statement that was just meantioned!
Anyhoooooos FOM is the highest rank that any oddworld fan can go up to, i am sure everyone of us would like to be asked questions by the great GURUS OF THE LEGEND ODD itself. Great job sydney but now all your damn wallpapers have gone :(

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 02-04-2002 07:43 PM

Exactly what it says... "Oddworld Inhabitant" (you know, someone that comes from Oddworld Inhabitants). I thought that was pretty obvious when we issued that custom title.
