Great work FennecFyre, can't wait to see where this story is heading. :)

So I'm late with a new page again, and I'm not at all happy with the first panel, but hey at least I'm starting to figure out rain effects. Kind of 8I (And at least I've got an excuse for being late this time: finals stress, winter break, Subnautica, general laziness, etc.)

I'm sure I've mentioned it before somewhere, but I wondered where the severed fingers in Raider's hat came from since I saw them, and eventually started to headcanon that its Raider's own personal, grisly way of keeping order in his ranks. Any time someone tries to usurp him or otherwise challenge his authority as boss, and fails, he cuts off their trigger finger to add insult to injury and carries it around in his hatband like a nasty, dried-out medal. An outlaw that can't shoot a gun or throw a knife is gonna be an outlaw with a hard life.

I also debated whether or not Sekto would be able to speak without a host body, but having him mute until then just made things difficult script-wise, so here he can sort of hiss out words, though it takes a bit of effort.

Varrok 12-22-2016 01:33 AM

You haven't put enough effort in this one. I mean, it has 0 onomatopoeias

Nepsotic 12-22-2016 02:05 AM

fennec is good art ye

Oddey 12-22-2016 03:51 AM

Varrok, I can't posrep you enough for that.

I quite like the interpretation of the fingers being from Raider's own gang.

That and Sekto taken out his usual suave stride by Raider's arm-flailing makes me giggle.

kjjcarpenter 12-23-2016 12:32 AM

This is probably the most genuinely artistic thing to come out of the Fan Corner in sixteen years, except maybe A Fan Art.

Keep up the great work, FennecFyre! Do you have your own website/portfolio, besides DeviantArt?

What do you mean by... "maybe"?

AlexFili 12-23-2016 09:53 AM

This is really cool, good job for keeping this up. Your art style is great

Lord Vhazen 01-02-2017 02:13 AM

Wow.... I'm honestly speechless. The art style, the pacing and just the basic idea... This is fascinating!

FennecFyre 01-02-2017 12:31 PM

Thanks all!

Shakin' him like an evil squishy maraca.

I don't, no, but I do know I need to set one up eventually...

Henchman of the year.

I'm not too sure about the middle panels, so in case it doesn't make sense, Sekto is putting two and two together and realizing that the voice on the phone matches the voice of the steef that attacked his dam. Also, first time trying out Stranger's "growly" speech bubbles in the actual comic. Should I keep that look?

Oddey 01-05-2017 11:16 PM

I kinda like that growly speech bubble, but it's a bit subtle I think. Makes it look a bit too much like Sekto's squiggly and slithery speech.

Also, more Sekto being tossed around.

Nepsotic 01-06-2017 12:50 PM

The subtlety works for it, if it were spiky it'd look like he's shouting.

A sepia wash over those two panels would solve the problem, I think. Otherwise, the message is conveyed easily enough.

Keep them. Absolutely. Oddey said it best: They're reminiscent of Sekto himself.

I think you should definitely consider building a digital portfolio for yourself, Fennec. You have some great stuff, and you deserve your own corner of the internet to host them.

Are you considering an artistic career?

Nepsotic 01-06-2017 06:24 PM

She has one.

Aggregate websites aren't great for aspiring artists/professionals. I'd definitely recommend Fennec branching out from DeviantArt and forging her own portfolio, especially as her talent continues to grow.

That's just my opinion though. A professional URL to slap on a business card goes a long way, and it helps you stand out. :)

Regardless, the story is great, Fennec, and I'm looking forward to more!

Nepsotic 01-07-2017 02:27 AM

Students can't generally afford custom domains or the amount of money it takes to commission a website.

Sybil Ant 01-07-2017 03:01 AM

You can grab a domain on GoDaddy for £1.99, and just link it to a free website like Wordpress, who'll also host it for you for an exra £5 a year.

Also friggin great work on this comic, Fennec. AH LOVE EET.

Nepsotic 01-07-2017 09:35 AM

To be honest, I don't think it's worth it at this point. When she gains a larger following it definitely would be. I dunno. As a bedroom producer, the thought of having my own website to host music feels a little OTT for the moment. Maybe it is a good idea though, who knows.

True. I'll see if I can exaggerate Sekto's bubbles a little more to make them stand out, try to really show that creepy-ass voice of his.

:

()
Are you considering an artistic career?

I'd like to, yeah. Game art/storytelling would be my first choice for a field, so things like concept art or worldbuilding. I'd love to get to do something like that.

As for a digital portfolio, Nep does have a point, it might still be a bit too early to think about that. Right now I don't feel like my art really has much of a professional "polish" to it, and I'm not really confident putting anything out anywhere more official than dA.

Story telling and world building can be hella fun and tedious at time but best of luck to you fellow writer.

This is an awesome comic! Don't put yourself down, you're already doing some amazing stuff with your talent, which is more than most people can say. When you feel you're at a more professional level, do make a portfolio for yourself. You never know, something like this could even be professionally published. I'd buy it.

Fennec, I think your artworks have amazing details and that you have some talent in your hands.

Now get cracking on a portfolio and show the world your talents!

I adore worldbuilding, but I agree that it can get sooooo complex. You have to take every little single piddly detail into account if you want to create something that can actually work with suspension of disbelief. S'why I've got so much respect for the people who created Oddworld as a setting. It might be icky and goofy and cartoony, but it feels like it could be real.

Thank you! I've always loved comics/graphic novels, and if I'm not able to get a job in the gaming industry, I'd like to try my hand at being a comic artist. After Wrath is finished (and I fully intend to see this through to the end) I have plans for a couple original stories that I'd like to bring to life as comics.

You're welcome! How many more pages do you think you have left until the first issue of Wrath is complete?

By my estimate, the prologue has about 4-5 pages left, and then the actual main character finally shows up :P

Nepsotic 01-16-2017 02:17 PM

I think it'd be a good idea to finish the chapters and then post them as opposed to posting them page by page. That's good you build HYPE

But if I only post when each chapter is done then how can I keep up a steady supply of feedback to feed my fragile artist ego

Besides, most webcomics usually post per page anyway.

Nepsotic 01-16-2017 02:46 PM

But the hype tho

Plus, whenever your fragile artist ego begins to deplete you always come to me on Discord and beg me for compliments, I thought we had something special there!

I really look forward to when you've finished the prologue, and Stranger comes into it. Like I said, you have talent. Your technique on the rain alone was very good. I used to do art on my waccom, but life got in the way. I was never this good to begin with, but I wish I could have done stuff like this. You're brave to pick Oddworld, due to it's dark and grittiness, you can only imagine how hard it is sometimes.

Keep them coming out when you're ready. Do you have a set time frame for when you release them? Even if you manage one a week or fortnight, there's still enough hype there to have your fans coming back. You don't want to jerk their chains.

I do urge you again to create a portfolio this year. Even if you only begin the website process next year. Deviantart is great for exposure, but it groups you in the masses. By presenting your own personal page, it creates a professional and individual look for you. It also allows for people or companies to contact you and you can monetize it to help with the SMALL fees or running the website. Honestly, I would be very happy to help you if you needed it.

Nepsotic 01-16-2017 10:32 PM

Well she's a student and has a job so a consistent release schedule isn't really viable.

Does that mean all those horrible things you said about it weren't true? ;u;

Annnd there goes Raider. gg

I honestly can't believe I've finally hit double digits on this comic, thank you so, soooo much to everyone who read, commented, or otherwise supported this weird little project of mine <3 However, I am probably going to be taking a break from this for about a week or so. Classes are about to start again, and I want to make sure I have a good handle on my new courses before I start on the next page.
