Don't mind vlam. I think it's safe to say EA will never publish an oddworld game again. Also welcopme back.

Crashpunk 01-15-2016 09:37 AM

After what happened to SW, Lorne wouldn't go near EA with a 10 foot pole.

I think OWI will self produce the future Oddworld titles but get outside help from other companies. Maybe even JAW again? Wishful thinking I know.

I guess it will remain a mystery unless Lorne tells what's up.

Hobo 01-15-2016 09:47 AM

Is it not just a numbers thing? Did NnT shift any units?

I think this whole 'remake a game in HD on the cheap!' approach only works for games that were universally loved and were sure to stand the test of time. And I'm not sure Abe's Oddysey was either.

Crashpunk 01-15-2016 09:52 AM

Well NnT shipped enough to make them plan for Abe's Exoddus HD. So my guess the sales had nothing to do with it. But it's an interesting point.

Oddysee was universally loved. The problems they faced were that while everyone who played it loved it nobody played it, and that it stood the test of time too well and people didn't like it when they changed what people liked. The edginess mostly.

You are kidding me. AO/AE aged perfectly. I don't think NnT will ever age that gracefully

Crashpunk 01-15-2016 12:30 PM

Apart from the kinda shit Steam port of Oddysee. Yeah, The Abe games have aged really well in my opinion.

Varrok 01-15-2016 12:48 PM

I can't really say much about Steam port quality. AO & AE have always worked perfectly on my PC with no additional work. And I can't say that about many 1997-1998 games.

FrustratedAssassin 01-15-2016 12:49 PM

Is the Steam port even worse than the original PC release?

Varrok 01-15-2016 12:53 PM

Original AO PC release had ABEWIN.exe and ABEDOS.exe and could be ran on both OSes. You certainly can't run Steam AO from DOS.

They also came with special perfomance modes...

...which were just shortcuts with additional command line parameter to enable/disable interlines.

Also, a Windows 95 theme with animated Abe cursors, icons and hi resolution 640x480 RF wallpaper.

voodoo 01-15-2016 02:14 PM

thanks.

I wish i could play steam AO/AE in window mode. I heard you can but not sure how to do it. And apparently I have to download something special to use controller with it also.

Varrok 01-15-2016 02:21 PM

try running it with "-windowed" or "-window" parameter. Steam supports running games with command line parameters.

If that won't work, you won't be able to run it in a window without a special app or file for that.

Why do you want it to run in a window anyway?

FrustratedAssassin 01-15-2016 02:45 PM

Here you go:

Windowed mode
Controller support

Phylum 01-15-2016 02:49 PM

I doubt the Steam release of AO is a new port. It's just the same AbeWin.exe from the disk release, or close enough that it might as well be. It has some compatibility problems for some people, but for the most part it should run fine on any OS.

I have never had any luck running AO or AE with the -window(ed) parameter, even though I'm fairly sure it's valid. People have used a program called DxWnd in the past, give that a look.

edit: Speedy. Do you really need XPadder to use a controller in AO? It supports them out the box and I'm sure I've set one up before no worries.

Because I like to multitask, I can't even use my other screen while it is in fullscreen

Varrok 01-15-2016 03:01 PM

That's a fair reason. I was worried you wanted to try windowed because the image was being stretched to widescreen or something.

I tried for hours in early highschool to get that damn theme to work on my vista system.

Wow. You can really taste the hard feelings in those series of tweets.

Delicious.

FrustratedAssassin 01-16-2016 06:49 AM

Whoa they did an unreleased port of Generals for the 360. That's really really cool.

Havoc 01-16-2016 08:24 AM

For a company that has made ports for some huge titles over the years, they have a really shitty website.

Good work does not necessitate a good website (unless you’re a web design agency). See also: Ian McKellen’s website.

I can't wait for the inevitable interview that Lorne gives where he lets slip what happened between them and JAW. Because there is obvious animosity there.

Does Wil still work for them?

Varrok 01-16-2016 08:35 AM

I think games have moved on, and given how niche it is, I'm not sure oddworld even has much of the nostalgia factor.

If I recall correctly Wil moved from JAW to OWI before release. Although maybe it was after...

OANST 01-16-2016 11:18 AM

I hope all is well then!

No, I'm not being an ass. Being grown up is hard.

I bet Wil was the reason OWI and JAW broke up. JAW was just so sad to miss his sparkling personality around the office and demanded Lorne give him back. Which Lorne of course did not do because he enjoys sparkling personalities too.

I know, right.

People still think I'm joking even if I am talking 100% honestly. Which is right now. It's not a joke! GODDAMIT

Wil come back to us. #FreeWil

Varrok 01-16-2016 02:48 PM

I'm sure he Wil

Havoc 01-17-2016 03:38 AM

Wil he, really?

Phylum 01-17-2016 03:43 AM

I really love Twitter for those unprofessional slip ups.

Nepsotic 01-17-2016 08:08 AM

At least that means there won't be a game called "Twice ze Flavour"

Holy Sock 01-17-2016 08:49 AM

I wouldn't think for a second this means the end of the Exoddus remake.

FrustratedAssassin 01-17-2016 09:18 AM

They kept hyping TzF long after they released NnT. Sorry people who don't like NnT, TzF is happening and I'm going to love it and you're going to hate it because you don't like nice things.
