Last night I found a guy staggering around with a deep gash to the head. Not immediately life-threatening, but dangerous. I called him an ambulance, waited with him until it arrived in case he passed out, and kept talking to him to try and keep tabs on his condition. I didn't get home until 7am as a result. I do not consider myself heroic. Heck, I only even bothered to mention it to one person. If it's what you'd want, it's what you should do.

He's right though. People aren't naturally assholes. Society is built on the fact that we are naturally good and empathetic. A minority of people are assholes, but you only notice the ones who are because not being an asshole is the norm.
