Why is every area built so perfectly for an athletic and acrobatic Mudokon rather than Sligs and everyday workers? I mean, why is everywhere flat ground? Why's there a pullring above the Boardroom? Why is everything a 12 foot wide platform? Even in natural areas? Why are there LED screens giving Mudokons hints on how to escape? |

|
The checkpoints could easily be Mudokon registration systems, if JAW and that make it like that. If it had to be activated like a directory it would make more sense rather than just walking past it.
|
I really want this game to succeed and it looks like it's so close to reaching its potential and more... but, as some others have pointed out, the animation isn't quite there yet.
|
Xavier has a solid point. The unseen checkpoints were better but I have a feeling JAW are trying to bring in a newer crowd, and for obvious reasons, this has to be put in to help the new players understand.
But! We have been promised a classic mode and these check points could be in a different difficulty setting so, I don't think we have anything to worry about. If we have that classic game mode, then (I hope) it is nothing but classic. Regardless, what ever decisions are made, it's evident that they have good reason for it. All my faith <3 lol Also, I love the jiggle bones in Abe's pony tail lol. |
I don't really see why people are complaining about the USB animation. It looks fine to me. On the other hand, the animation for Abe crouching down and standing up again just looks way too quick. He's in one position, then in the other, and there isn't enough movement in between.
|
Same with sligs turning on the spot, it looks almost 2D.
But yeah everything else seems okay to me, including the 'USB'. Un-Sploded Bomb. |

|
Your favourite part is a crouching animation? That is... surprisingly specific.
|
You underestimate my love for quick crouching animations like that.
|
God, Rupture Farms looks so fucking cool, I just want to have its babies.
:
|
I hope JAW isn't taking note of any of these things, because then this game is never going to come out.

:
This on the other hand screams "checkpoint" |
:
The ones in RuptureFarms could be something like dispensers, or "clocking in" points or something. |

complaining again because im happy with 99% of it!
Xavier; you raise really interesting point now about the in game mecahnics...it's such a fine line between what is immersive and what is disruptive.
But I'm curious - this isn't in anyway a sarcastic remark - but did you really examine the UXB animation? His arm goes through itself and snaps back instantly ; is it something that most people didnt notice ? I really hope JAW don't share the viewpoint that the character animations are done - they are, in my opinion, shoddy at points. I can't understand why basic character animations seem incomplete at this stage? How many years has this been worked on? How can some of the handful of boxed animations not be complete yet? Why are some of the animations lightning quick, to the point of lunacy, while others seem strangely slow (the movement of the grenade isnt an animation but its a good example of this inconsistency). |
Another example;
The sligs get up instantly. In the GDC trailer, the time it takes for the slig to go from standing to shooting is instant - even quicker than the 2D game. When the slig is asleep on the ground, its head goes through the ground as it wriggles around in it's sleep. Why was a a ground plain not used when creating this boxed animation to assess how the animation would look against the ground? Grrrr. |
Oddworld fans are by far the worst fans I have ever seen in my life. Keep up the good work, basement dwellers!
|
I come from game development; the criticisms are legitimate, the issues important (broken character animations are not trivial) and this is the time and probably the place to raise them as a passionate fan.
I can't help but laugh at myself for getting so worked up about it though, you're right, but I feel JAW must be held accountable after their poor track record of HD ports that don't work, etc. I don't - yet- hold them in high esteem, based on a batting average of 2 products that I bought which didn't even work. |
Eww. You bought Oddworld games? That can't be smart.
|
:
|
I'd rather be an oddworld fan than a shitty Halo fan or (god save us) CoD fan! Those fan bases kill brain cells
|
:
|
Most of us fans are okay.
But please, the UXB press animation in this Indie 9 Video was horrible. You can clearly see Abe's arm would break during this move!... |

This just in: Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty - E3 Trailer 2014 !
E: Posted here before I watched it myself. EE:Rupturefarms looks beautiful EEE:The ressurection scene looks beautiful. EEEE:Hot damn this just looks so beautiful. |
Sooooo pretty. Really not sure about that music though, seems very out of place, even for a trailer.
Quite torn with the futuristic looking Rupture Farms. It looks awesome but a very different feel to the original. I'm sure the change is justified though. |
My pants is wet. Everything is wet. Wow, it is perfect!
(Except the glukkon jaw clipping error at 1:02) lol JAW, I love you all! |
I dont know why i saw this, but at the 14 sec intro scene with the massive heads, look at the conveyor belt. The boxes just disappear in a really bad looking away.
Great trailer though! |
I was genuinely really digging the music until the voice came in. I'm sure it was lovely for the fan to have her music featured, but it feels so out of place in an Oddworld game. Glad it will only be in the end credits. Oddysee is such a male driven game / has no strong female leads / no women in the game at all, and I think it's just quite weird to hear a female voice like that in such a macho world.
Cardboard glowy Rupture Farms doesn't do justice to the original game either, have to say I'm left with a bitter taste in my mouth after watching this trailer. At least Playstation Access are "excited". Also, they should have added a quote to the trailer saying "Abe's toes aren't blue enough" - Oddworld Forums. |
Central hub of RuptureFarms looks weird! Not fearsome and dark like in the original. All the glowing and that...it looks too Sci-Fi I think. Aways loved how the exterior of the factory looked in Oddysee and I had sort of assumed they wouldn't do anything to change its design :(
Much of the other stuff looks great though! And the music is so out of place it hurts haha. Should never be vocals like that heard in an Oddworld game! Certainly not in Oddysee!! |
I don't think the music was a good choice for the trailer either, and I preferred the dirty, gritty original Rupture Farms... I guess the new "bling palace" makes more sense since it's meant to be an important facility, though the old one seemed more oppressive somehow. But still, it's just an image in a cut scene, so it doesn't matter really.
/nitpicktastic Other than that, those cutscene visuals look really good, and it's nice to see more of them. :) |
omgomgomgomgomgomghjgkfdhsgsjdgsakhjg! It looks amazing. I don't even care about the new look of RF etc. The Bad ending scene with the masked Mudokon looks hella dark! Still no release date though.. You got 4 days guys! ;)
|
The trailer looks really strong and I'm even on board with the new matte paintings, which probably much more closely align with the brighter world this time around.
Great job guys! Some standout moments might be the new ending video with the masked mudokon and the appearance of monsaic lines is absolutely spot on. The song however, is feverishly inappropriate. Remove it. |
Fuck it. Totally fine with the new look of Rupture Farms. Always got the impression, form all the existing concept art, that a lot of these industrial places looked rather sci-fi.
|
All I have to say is at the end... kill em.... Masked style.
|
Also, maybe this is the front of Rupture Farms? The image from the original being the rear...
|
Seriously. You guys are awful.
|
:
Also, what's with the awesome look? ;) Finally, why did you keep the awful logo? :( |
