What about 3D printing? Would be very easy to make to order, pre-painted and assembled!

There's even a site where you can upload digital model files and get them printed and delivered for a pretty affordable price and decent quality. Considering that the illegal part of copyright infringement stems from the money making, is it illegal to submit and print out an Abe from the mod files, for personal use?

Probably illegal for the website if they do it, but i doubt it'd be illegal for the customer (unless they declare the work they upload is their own creation)

If you were to rip the models out of your own copy the game and get it printed for yourself, that would be fine.

If someone were to rip the models out of their copy of the game, then post it online for other people to download for free, that's borderline but probably fine.

If someone were to rip the models and then sell them to other people, that would definitely be wrong.

Man, i allways wanted a 30cm tall Official Abe Figure :D

Oddworld have previously posted a link to an Abe Statue for their "fans with a 3D Printer" on their Facebook Page. They've also expressed interest in producing 3D prints of a Stranger Statue.

Do you still have a link to this by any chance?

I want to set the record straight here, because I know the person who makes these. They aren’t officially licensed, but the maker did ask permission from OWI to make and sell them (and was told they could).

That's the right attitude to have. Thanks for the clarification :)

alibongo 03-03-2014 06:25 PM

These are nice:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oddworld-A...item4173e05d6d

Xavier 03-04-2014 02:30 AM

Not really my cup of tea.

alibongo 03-17-2014 12:59 AM

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1395042950These are the three figures I planned making moulds for and producing a limited run of each. I accept they are un-official and therefore not collectable as such, however I believe they were originally commissioned by GTActive and then canceled. What do you think? Would you buy?

Xavier 03-17-2014 05:27 AM

I'm sorry but I still won't. For the exact same reasons as the ones I previously described.

Crashpunk 03-17-2014 04:27 PM

I admit, they do look nice. But again with the paint. Looks washed out.
Also the bigger Abe model doesn't look right. His body is way too big (or legs too short :P).

STM 03-17-2014 04:46 PM

Proportions are off and the face looks a bit funny, in my humble opinion. I think people who are going to design figured would need the actual computer models to get it all right. 3D printing them or something.

Job McYossie 03-18-2014 04:44 PM

... Does that say: "Abe's World"?

... Does that say: "Abe's World"?

Yes. And the other plinth reads Mulluck

Xavier 03-26-2014 03:06 AM

Abe's world and Mulluck... this just screams good research and attention to detail.

STM 03-26-2014 12:25 PM

Maaaan, you can't sell these.

AvengingGibbons 03-26-2014 01:03 PM

Not to say I could do any better myself, but those models are quite amateurish. The person who made them is talented, but they've focussed on crafting the details, and not so much on the macroscopic form of the characters (I am talking about the Abe model particularly). The Mullock model is better.

I realised some years ago that I was always wrong in the way I tackled Art, focussing on the details when drawing something, and not focussing on getting the more overall shapes and sizes of the object/person i was drawing. The overall form is always the first thing someone sees, and only on closer inspection do the details have any kind of significance. I think I learned this after studying Impressionism in A-level Art. Thinking about it, it was quite a shift in my way of thinking in how I reflect what I see, and I think the realisation induced a lot of self-doubt in my artistic ability.

Or a desperate attempt at avoiding copyright infringement :p

OANST 03-27-2014 09:02 AM

I'll take 300. Please start production immediately.

why not?

STM 03-27-2014 03:28 PM

Abe's World isn't a thing, neither is Mulluck. You need to work on anatomy and expression too, the paint job is okay, I think Molluck is pretty good really, but you've got his name wrong. Seems like you haven't done the necessary product research.

To be honest, I want someone get the Munch's Oddysee models printed off on the 3D Printer for an epic game of Oddworld Chess.

All of my yes on the Oddworld chess set!!!
Perhaps one day, we will all be able to get our hands on some official figs. Fingers crossed.

Molluck.Typo, my bad. Maybe remove the word World from plinth. So, you reckon a limited run of 500 each, unpainted, would sell, or not sell?

Job McYossie 03-28-2014 02:47 AM

So now the base would just say: "Abe's"?

I thought Abe Lincoln might be appropriate.

alibongo 03-28-2014 03:31 AM

Well, tools are made, plinths will have no names, pm me if you are interested. Each model will be supplied in plain grey resin, with a certificate saying "Not endorsed by Odd world Forums and Unofficial, individually numbered model "

MeechMunchie 03-28-2014 05:59 AM

a certificate saying "Not endorsed by Oddworld Forums"

That certification has more value than any model a person can make.

Nate 03-28-2014 06:27 PM

I just had another thought. It isn't just OWI's copyright that is (potentially) being breached here, but the people who made the original models that alibongo is working off.

You mean it's like breaching a breach? This is a fine example where a double negative does not make a positive.

Nepsotic 03-29-2014 03:37 AM

But don't OWI own those models?

Xavier 03-29-2014 04:02 AM

Nate was referring to the models alibongo showed us in his picture.

Those models were made by someone else.

Manco 03-29-2014 06:31 AM

Is the company that made those original models even still in business though?

Xavier 03-29-2014 06:53 AM

Nope, I don't think so.

Bumping this thread just to let you guys know, one of those unlicensed Abe statues has just appeared on eBay UK.

The starting bid is £279.99, which is stupidly expensive. But hey, Maybe one of you lot might take an interest.

Xavier 05-16-2014 07:41 AM

Kinda dispointed it's lacking the certificate saying "Not endorsed by Odd world Forums and Unofficial, individually numbered model".

Varrok 05-16-2014 07:43 AM

It's still weird, and doesn't quite capture how Abe should look.

Crashpunk 05-16-2014 07:47 AM

Yup. His torso is far too big.

Nepsotic 05-16-2014 07:56 AM

Why is his right eye falling off.

Job McYossie 05-16-2014 04:47 PM

Abe is skinny. Really Skinny. Like, you can always see his ribs. These ribs though are so big it looks like his ribs are breaking through the skin.

MeechMunchie 05-16-2014 06:41 PM

"very rare"

I just did a doodle of Chewbacca wearing a sombrero. It's the only one in the world!
