There is more than one Elum on Oddworld, you know.

Abe's elum, of course.

Nepsotic 03-03-2013 06:32 AM

He doesn't just use one. And if you want to know what happens to the one that lives in Paramonia, it gets blown up.

Manco 03-03-2013 07:08 AM

The Free-Fire Zone is pretty much the most atmospheric area in AO, so I’ll be looking forward to that.

Steamer_KING 03-03-2013 09:01 AM

Monsaic Lines, Scrabania, Stockyards/Free-Fire Zone. I'm really excited to see these.

STM 03-03-2013 10:20 AM

I had a dream about New and Tasty last night. I know in part it's because I'm really sad but also, when a game resonates with you so much that you dream about playing it, you know it's one of the best you've ever played. Can't wait to see the full Rupture Farms as well as Monsaic, the industrial areas are beautiful in their own right really and I think that's quite understated.

Nepsotic 03-03-2013 01:15 PM

I used to dream about AO when I first played it. Now when I play it I always get nostalgia and great memories of playing it with My dad.

MeechMunchie 03-03-2013 03:17 PM

My dreams about AO would really qualify as nightmares.

Crashpunk 03-04-2013 06:22 AM

Yeah I vaguely remember dreaming about getting chased by Slogs down the road. Not to mention the Fleeches used to freak me out so much I couldn't even sleep some nights. This was all after playing Abe's Exoddus with my Dad for a few hours.

...Kids shouldn't play Oddworld.

Mudokon/Paramite orgies?

Nepsotic 03-04-2013 07:14 AM

Paramites in general used to freak me the fuck out.

Jbot123 03-04-2013 11:15 AM

VYKKERS ARE SATAN HIMSELF

Vyrien 03-04-2013 12:22 PM

But Vykkers don't really have anything to do with Abe's Oddysee so it's fine.

Jbot123 03-04-2013 01:06 PM

We were going over scary oddworld characters. I'm not even going to mention clakkers....

*shudders*

Manco 03-04-2013 01:32 PM

What, are you chicken?

Nepsotic 03-04-2013 01:33 PM

Don't mention chickens!
*shudders*

Spooce-aholic 03-04-2013 05:12 PM

TCP/IP LAN and online multiplayer and level editing. Maybe even some modding support.

Nepsotic 03-04-2013 10:10 PM

How the hell would online multiplayer work?

Xavier 03-05-2013 12:12 AM

Second player plays Alf in some dedicated zones designed for puzzles that require two players.

How the hell would online multiplayer work?

I see it working in 2 ways. A separate story, like Portal 2 did with the robots in co-op.

Only this time, during Abes escape, there will be 2 other muds who also find out about the the gluks plans. Then I assume the puzzle aspects will be one player has the ability to talk and the other one can open portals/possess enemies.

Then as 2 players go through the game, they'll be just behind Abe or something and maybe rescue creatures as well as stray workers?

They can play around with it quite a lot if they do this. I mean, they could even make it a racing game where you have to roll or run through a trial together and try use the level to slow down your opponent. Escape the gas or slog or something.

Nepsotic 03-05-2013 07:18 AM

I like the race idea, but the idea of a multiplayer story seems really boring to me.

Bullet Magnet 03-05-2013 07:31 AM

One player would play as Abe, and the other would effectively be the Dungeon Master, sending wave after wave of sligs and slogs against an unarmed player 1 in a level specially designed by player 2 to have no walls, ledges or other tools to escape the oncoming horror.

STM 03-05-2013 08:31 AM

Two player where you just take turns after death was fine by me. Especially since I was better than my brother and ended up playing for like 1/2 an hour at a time.

OANST 03-05-2013 10:21 AM

I don't know guys. I'm pretty sure I heard that Lorne is hell bent against multiplayer at this point.

MeechMunchie 03-05-2013 10:48 AM

Really, OANST? I hadn't heard that. Please expand on his views a little.

Bullet Magnet 03-05-2013 10:52 AM

Nuh uh, I'm doing this one.

:

When moving forward with the OddBox, we started getting some rather grand ideas. One of these was to create a multiplayer component for Stranger's Wrath. We've always been interested in bringing people together with media that has the power to question social standards, so yeah, multiplayer was kind of a no brainer.

We put together a team, and we went to work. I'm not going to get into too many specifics, but I'll say this. We finished it. We finished it, and we loved it. We made some fantastic multiplayer. Then we put it into beta. For a very short time on Steam, when you downloaded a certain game, you received the multiplayer beta of Stranger's Wrath with it. This is where things went wrong. We put it into the hands of the people, and it was an eye opening experience.

After the third time that I was called a "hippy faggot", I decided to pull the plug. No more multiplayer from this hippy faggot. No, sir. We are also cancelling our foray into social networking. I have realized, finally, that people are degenerates, and should never be allowed to communicate with each other.

Also, we have decided to include rpg elements in Abe HD, and it's looking like the game will take about 90 hours to complete on an initial playthrough.

And as usual, professional buzz-kill boy and incurable on-line douchebag Wil ruined everything.

Jbot123 03-05-2013 10:53 AM

Maybe some small multiplayer minigames or fighting/racing matches in themed arenas or tracks. Kinda like the multiplayer in Conker's Bad Fur Day. For Instance, an Elum race or a slig shooting match. Maybe a cooking minigame where you prepare RuptureFarms products. What I would like is some extras, like a character gallery or something.

OANST 03-05-2013 11:10 AM

What do you not understand about "people are degenerates, and should never be allowed to communicate with each other?"

Maybe there should be a time limit or something. Also, with TCP/IP LAN and online support there could be more than 2 players.

Or maybe all players play simultaneously like a race.

I get what hes saying, and I mean, its true. You hop into any online multiplayer game, for example dota 2, and the moment you make a mistake, there are some people who just scream like rabid howler monkeys and say "LOL NOOB FAGGOT" or "UNINSTALL DOTA. YOU DIED ONCE."

But, Lorne is wrong in one sense. If the multiplayer function worked in a way where you choose who you play with and not someone random, I think it could work. I myself enjoy playing co-op over LAN with some one I know who enjoys the game the same way I do. For example, Magicka works well when its with some one you know.

MeechCrunchies 03-05-2013 08:44 PM

How about a Mudokon beating mini game where the slig with the highest number of beatings after one minute is the winner?

I'm pretty sure that quote isn't actually from Lorne anyway, and that OANST likes to show it to anybody he can.
I might be wrong of course; OWF is a mysterious place.

Josh 03-06-2013 12:54 AM

Online multiplayer wouldn't work. Games with puzzles were not meant to be co-operative, everyone is either terrible or better than you and that makes people maaaaad.

Bullet Magnet 03-06-2013 03:11 AM

The actual problem with multiplayer puzzle games is finding someone who has not finished more puzzles than you. It's no fun figuring out a puzzle with someone who already knows it, and vice versa. Which makes that achievement on Portal 2 all the more perplexing.

Nepsotic 03-06-2013 06:35 AM

That's the only one I don't have.

Bullet Magnet 03-06-2013 09:40 AM

To get it, not only must you track down a player who has just acquired a copy, but you also have to ruin their fun.

Nepsotic 03-06-2013 10:50 AM

I'm pretty sure you only have to complete the calibration course.

Jbot123 03-06-2013 11:17 AM

What was the Stranger multiplayer like? What did you do, and who was the other character?

Bullet Magnet 03-06-2013 07:57 PM

Not many of us got to play the beta. It's a painful memory. The glimpse of what could have been... and Wil's asshole trolling.

Though I'd like it on record that the servers closed with me at the top of the leaderboards That last match counted, dammit, I don't care what any of you rubes say.
