The guy's obviously a fan of Edward Gorey, who was drawing that stuff before it was cool.

Huh, I'd actually seen a reference to that in a show I watched recently but obviously didn't get it. Thanks for that.

Sekto Springs 10-25-2012 05:58 PM

I love Edward Gorey. His art is equal parts adorable and macabre, and it all looks so classy and intricate.

MeechMunchie 10-26-2012 02:16 AM

I've got that book. I can only assume this makes me cool.

Nepsotic 10-27-2012 12:36 PM

I appreciate the fuck out of Limbo. It's one of the few recent games that I can consider "art".

Fred The Fuzzle 10-27-2012 01:25 PM

Coincidentally Limbo is also the last successful cinematic platformer since Abe's Exoddus.

Has anyone played Bastion? It's worth a play just to gawk at the visuals.

Aw come on, it's not a game-related subforum!

Nepsotic 10-27-2012 02:35 PM

Anything can be art.

Wings of Fire 10-27-2012 02:36 PM

Don't say that in front of OANST, he'll shank you.

Nepsotic 10-27-2012 03:15 PM

I remember his Oddworld fanfics, they were what you call art.

Strike Witch 10-27-2012 03:19 PM

Stop being a hipster. Games aren't art they're games.

Nepsotic 10-27-2012 03:24 PM

I don't think I've ever been the first to call 'bullshit' on this forum before.
I'm going to let someone else do it.

Varrok 10-27-2012 03:37 PM

*nothing happens*

STM 10-27-2012 04:08 PM

BULL SHIT. I just keep popping up in Nep's court today. It must be an omen of the imminent apocalypse.

Can film be art? Can literature be art? If the answer to either of those is yes, then games can be art as well.

Phylum 10-27-2012 06:03 PM

I think SW means visual art.

In any case you can't deny that Bastion is really pretty and Limbo looks fucking cool. The artwork in the game is good even if you want to argue on the semantics of if games are truly art.

Mr. Bungle 10-27-2012 06:19 PM

Some games are art. Majora's Mask, Silent Hill, Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus, all very artsy games.

However, games like Call of Duty or Halo would't be considered art, at least not in my opinion. They're just games. There's no real artistic integrity to them.

Nate 10-27-2012 06:25 PM

Now we're playing with semantics. Art is not a binary Art/Not Art state. It exists on a continuum. Film, for instance, has a line from porn at one end to art-house nonsense on the other, with most of Hollywood's output somewhere in the middle.

EDIT: I should have said "In my personal definition, Art is not a binary..."

Strike Witch 10-27-2012 06:32 PM

What's art~

Mr. Bungle 10-27-2012 06:35 PM

It's complicated, that's for sure

Can you seriously stop pretending like you've been here for all these years and know all these inside jokes and what's happened here? Shit, even I don't do that.

Nepsotic 10-28-2012 06:18 AM

I wasn't, you can clearly see in my post.

I researched it. At no point did I say, ME TOO, HA!

STM 10-28-2012 09:07 AM

I think he's more begrudged with the fact that you keep bringing this sort of old stuff up to feel included. It's a natural thing to do with the amount of shit some people still give you, but you just need to post relevant, interesting stuff, mate. Any way, I'm not here to give a fucking speech, so this:

This is arguably my favourite piece of art on DA ever.

Sekto Springs 10-28-2012 09:09 AM

Reminds me of Feeco Depot.

STM 10-28-2012 09:15 AM

I think it's the Victorian steam-punk architecture, I love all that sort of stuff. It's why I'm such a fan of dystopian novels I think.

Nepsotic 10-28-2012 09:35 AM

I've never been a fan of steampunk, but that really does look amazing.

Slog Bait 10-28-2012 11:52 AM

I know that the discussion happened a whole page ago, but:

:

All art. Any art. Not just visual art, no. Anything that can be considered an art. Anything you consider an art.

We have threads for things like "Oh hey, I just saw/listened/played blahblahblah", but we don't have any threads that are solely dedicated to appreciating (and by appreciating I mean going on and on about the technical aspects. The things that make this so appealing or at least seeing what can make it appealing to others.) that thing we just saw/listened to/played.

Personally, I consider games to be a form of art. It's a medium that allows most forms of art to come together to usually tell a story. This thread is for appreciating art, regardless of what medium, genre, style, and so on.

Also, I ran across this guy recently, and recall someone here saying they liked surrealist stuff, so I figured I'd share his work.

Baiting OANST is an art, and a fine one at that.

Slog Bait 10-28-2012 01:19 PM

Baiting OANST is the finest art of them all.

MeechMunchie 10-28-2012 01:33 PM

And you should know; you're a master baiter.

MA 10-28-2012 03:08 PM

you wouldn't believe how fucking long that took. i had to work for that rimshot.

Strike Witch 10-28-2012 03:21 PM

Patricio Betteo is a great blend of modern digital and classic cubist influence.
