Hey guys,
Quick introduction - I'm an environment artist at JAW working on Abe :P

The feedback has been great, it means a lot to us that you like what you've seen. You can't imagine how much we have worried about not capturing the proper feel of the original that we all love, so seeing real fans of the game happy is an insane feeling.

There are a couple of issues you've brought up and I will address what I can quickly as I'm just heading out.
Pretty much all character effects are WIP, some being created just before the guys took the build down London, Don't worry about those ;)
Audio is again WIP, as you picked up on there are some sounds missing, they've not been forgotten, we have some great guys working on those, I think you'll all be pleased with them;)
New areas were mentioned. What we actually aimed for here was to snap aware from the reused backgrounds of the original game and make Rupture farms feel more like a working environment. This means we have pretty much kept the same layout and puzzles of the original game but just made the environments more dynamic.
Yes you can stop the lift wherever you want, and the pulley lift is not forgotten ;)
The status boards for employees, casualities and escapees will be featuring those stats. As it stands though we haven't had time to incorporate that kind of flash-type magic.

I hope that answers a few of your questions.

I would guess that they feature in native areas where the power lift doesn't make sense. It's one thing to blunder and plunder your way through pristine environments and leaving slig guards in your wake, but quite another to improve the infrastructure as you go for the benefit of rent-a-cops and penniless savages.

I can't tell you how much of a good sign that is! Compare it with GTA V screen shots, not a single jaggie anywhere.. I can promise you that's not how it will look on current gen consoles!

Yeah, I guess you're right, but I wouldn't mind seeing a screenshot or two with AA enabled and without image compression.

1. Option for "classic" gamespeak
2. I liked the old platform sounds better :(
3. More colour/lights on the new platform/trap door/other important "objects"
4. Death screams
5. Death sound effect
6. Blood, didn't see any in the screenshots
I agree with pretty much everything there, and 4-6 were already promised when they said the gore level will not change

I like the titile, I think they chose a good choice. I don't mind about the Slig masks being changed either. It looks like it's going to be a great game! :D And I am absolutely as happy as a pig in.... as a mudoken that's not being beat up by a slig that it's coming out on all consoles! :D

Yep. Seeing it live was amazing. It was one of the best moments i've had in a while as a gamer.

The demo of New 'N' Tasty was just outstanding, it's stayed true to the original so well. Not only the gameplay but the music, the sounds and the voices as well. Also the character models and animation are really well done. Abe and the Sligs look amazing, I cannot wait to see the Scrabs, Paramites and the Glukkons as well. And like what WoF said about the gravity when Abe jumps of a ledge and lands ect.

And I just want to say this again but Just Add Water have done an amazing job so far, you should be so very proud of yourselves for bringing back this glorious franchise :D I cannot wait to see more!

Looks great. Only thing that bothered me was the goofy noise Abe makes when he run-jumps. Not a big deal, though.

I was furious when Abe didn't make that angry noise when he ran into the wall, but when I unwittingly made it myself I was okay again.

Oh yeah, I hope the rope pulley platforms get preserved somewhere, I love those fukken things more than I really should.

I talked to Glitch in the pasty flesh, the pulley lifts will stay in Native areas.

I later won that Abe cutout for knowing inane Oddowrld trivia. But that's a story for another time.

As an infrequent member here, I just want to stay how glad I am that this community exists. I think that OWF has had a significant positive impact on the future of Oddworld in various ways and I thank you all - as well as JAW - for helping to keep my favourite franchise alive.

I don't mean to sound overly dramatic, but finally seeing Oddworld as it's supposed to look in this generation gives me real hope for the future.

I suppose that's true (except that he was employee of the year), but it addressed him as though they were good friends. I guess it might be interesting if the first few mudokons do that and later ones not, though.

I think this section is the place where you encounter a slig and a meat grinder for the first time. Its just unfinished. But then again, its any anyone's guess.


I'm very impressed with what ive seen and I have to say, that was the 1st game conference i've seen where it was not disappointing and everything that was said was interesting. From Lorne to Stu, right to the end. Brava! Amazing work guys.

Looks great so far! These are the things that don't feel right to me (I'm aware it's pre-alpha!):

-Piled mines.
-Abe & Mudokons seem to be too hunched in this one?
-Slig walk/run animations.

I'm wondering how are they going to deal with some known secret areas: Barrels or stuff hiding the secret spots (such as when the second slig appears) don't seem to entirely work in 3D perspective with moving-scenarios, or they?

Also: many mudokon workers standing at the same spot? Will they just overlap each other in 3D? I'm sure this questions and more have been addressed already.

Just a quick question for you guys,

Do you prefer Abe's monotone voice from Oddysee or the deeper one from Exoddus? I wonder if Lorne can still do the Oddysee voice.


Also, I saw some one ask for a classic voice mode option with the simple "Hello" and "Follow me" being said. What are your opinions on this?

Shame I wasn't there to meet you lot and see New 'n Tasty (good name` choice, BTW) for the first time on a massive screen. But then that's my own mistake...

Oh well though, that looks damned impressive for a pre-alpha! The remake is in good hands indeed. :)

The dynamic environment is incredible and really does add more depth, and I'm digging the extra little details that have been added - Maybe I have a little minor criticism over some sounds and animations but seeing as they're WIP, I'll keep my mouth shut over them. I really can't wait to see where JAW is going over this.

I believe it's time we stopped with this "especially for pre-alpha" thing. Other than the obvious WIP and placeholder stuff, this is damn good even for a finished product. I especially loved the parallax and the entire scrolling mechanism, very VERY well done. On the same note, please do NOT have camera controls or anything of this style. Make the automatic camera so good you won't need it.

Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on this. :)
