The lack of meat is specifically to leave room for the clay. If I completely fleshed out the base, then it would leave very little room for the clay, which I like to pack on then carve in the details. It kind of sucks when you go to carve and hit plaster/tin foil. It makes for a lot of complications that could have easily been avoided. Rest assured the paramite is going to look well fed once it's done. Thanks for the input.

Oddey 02-17-2013 12:41 PM

Nothing wrong with it yet, but of course it's kind of hard to tell with the base model. When you put on the clay and form the details into that, I think I'll be able to better tell if it looks alright. Good luck though! I'd love to see that one done.

Crashpunk 02-19-2013 04:47 AM

That's Mod mesh isn't it? Man...takes me back to GCSE Art at school. :)

WolfensteinOdess 02-27-2013 10:27 AM

Nice :) Continue

Slog Bait 06-14-2013 04:14 PM

When it comes to sculpting the base is everything because if it isn't solid and recognizable the final result won't turn out very well.

@Crashpunk
It's plaster cloth. I found it to be useful to bulk up the armature and use less clay, but it also helps dry the clay faster which proves to be a problem as most of the clay I use I discovered is prone to cracking. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to make the clay work with the dried plaster without it cracking as severely as it does, or at least trying to find a way to nicely fill in the cracks because despite the ridiculous amount of cracking the clay holds firmly in place.

Small bump since I haven't updated this thread in forever. Have a pen sketch of General Dripik.

That's pretty damn sweet. Though it does help that Dripik is one of my favorite characters.

Splat 06-14-2013 04:50 PM

Hey, not posted in here before I think, but... your art is really good! (Ok, I'm bad at commenting on this side of FC :fuzemb: )
But seriously, it looks good enough to be mistaken for official stuff, which is great; I particularly love the painting of elum amongst the trees on the first page. But all in all pretty awesome!

Slog Bait 02-14-2014 10:40 PM

I got an Oddworld-related commission recently, which makes this the first Oddworld related picture I've done in a long time I feel like posting. Kind of boring update, but it's cool to see the improvements I've made since I last posted.

Also aaaggh thanks, Splat. Though, I don't think I'm nearly as good as you say I am, it's still really fucking flattering. I think I'll try doing a landscape painting some time since I rarely do environments.

Job McYossie 02-14-2014 11:35 PM

Wow, didn't know about this thread. So many new desktop backgrounds awaited me. I think that first drawing of a paramite is going to be the one up. The clay paramite looks great, reminds me of my clay Shrykull cup. But, you know, of course your's is considerably better. Because you're a great artist. I'm not good at talking, this is a complement.

scipionyx 02-18-2014 08:29 AM

hey that glukkon looks awesome! i especially like the expression! :D +the small details in the lineart, good work! :fuzcool:

gishygleb 02-19-2014 05:09 AM

That was enrapturing... I have never seen something, that could surpass your works in beauty.

What is the enigma of your astonishing style?

This is gonna take a while. I still need to recut the legs because somehow one of the wires shrunk.

Oziah 08-16-2014 03:50 AM

These images are absolutely awesome! I love the style you've gone for.

Everything looks creepy as hell which is how I believe the creatures of Oddworld should look.

'Bitey', your weird snake/worm/fleech thing, honestly fits into the universe I think.

Top work - I'll be checking back for more buddy :)

I only like the original single line visor.

I wasn't planning to sell this specific sculpt, but I do take private commissions.

Damn that's some impressive stuff. Looking forward to see what it looks like after being painted.

Slog Bait 04-12-2016 11:41 AM

I'll be posting the painted fleech probably when I stop getting all huffy about painting. I hate painting.

Already looking good so far. I like the wrinkles on its chin, or neck, or whatever the hell you would call it.

Oh, this is so realistic their tentacles tickle!

Slog Bait 06-10-2016 12:37 AM

I haven't heard back from Alcar in a while so I'm not sure if he forgot or if he got busy or what, but I figure I should at least show the fruits of my labour rather than let my announcement fall apart like another false promise. Here's some "previews" of the skin I said I had wanted to make. Based on the current Native and Industrial themes. If this ever gets implemented, I have a Sekto Springs theme in mind for the other vbull skin.

These were all compiled in a very messy HTML file I, for the most part, reverse engineered from the index.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...folder/top.png

I wanted to make the birthday icon a BIG SURPRISE after implementing the theme, but some things were just never meant to be.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...folder/btm.png

Here's the whole skin, minus the background image I intend to hand paint for it, since that's not as vital as some of the other things that went into making this theme. Also minus the broken images. This screenshot was taken before I fixed all the links.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...older/full.png

I'd like input on how to improve the text, but this is how I got it to stand out best against this background colour. Also, I thought using the spirit locks to indicate an open/closed thread was genius, thank you very much.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...er/checkit.png

Rep icons. Little skulls. Teehee.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...er/negrep1.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...er/negrep2.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...der/nutrep.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...er/posrep1.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...er/posrep2.png

Over all, I just wanted something that was easier on my eyes, because the current themes all give me a headache looking at them for any longer than 15 minutes at a time. The eye strain is real.

Nepsotic 06-10-2016 02:23 AM

I remember when you were showing me this months ago, I can't believe Alcar still hasn't implemented it.

STM 06-10-2016 03:12 AM

This is fucking awesome, kudos dude, I'll be using this in lieu of the native theme for sure. And that's saying something...I've been using the native theme for eight years.

Gunnr 06-10-2016 12:54 PM

Nice! I'm digging the warm colors I'll be choosing that as my background skin if/ and whenever that's available :)

Fartuess 06-26-2016 04:16 AM

First off - i like your drawings, plastic models look great. I can't give any crit/feedback on them besides approval.

But since topic of forum skin was mentioned. It really need to be refreshed. I can't expect migration to vBulletin4, nor i should expect brand new layout, but since you are working on a skin it would be nice to use more modern color pallete which is not based on single dark colour + wider columns would be nice.
