my favorite oddworld game's AE
AO - didn't enjoy as much. Munches odyssey - changed into a 3d plat former which I hated. Strangers wrath - get rid of the oddworld in the name and then you can see why I didn't like it (I don't mind that the changed the main characters but I never found anything related to the previous games besides fuzzles :S) |
I like Oddworld Adventures on the GameBoy because masochism.
|
I'd have to say my favorite game would be AE or MO. AE was easier than AO for sure and just had this feel to it. When I think back now, it might have been the music. As for MO, I just loved the hell out of that game when I was a kid. After beating it for the 30th time, it started getting a wee bit boring.
|
I think my favourite would be Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus, both equally great with their story lines, gameplay and environments.
Stranger would be my second favourite because it fixed what Munch was missing IMO such as gameplay's stealth and the story. I think if Munch was an multi platform game then I think the time love and care would have made the game alot better since they wouldn't had to rush it in order to make the deadline of the xbox release. -Edit- Actually in AE its a little too easy to get the good ending I think the save count should be more than a 150 just to make things a little bit more difficult because the only way to get the bad ending is if you actually kill the mudokons you see. |
I would have to say that my favourite Oddworld title is Abe's Oddysee, reason being it has a darker, more eerie atmosphere compared to other games, it has just the right tone of humour and the story is told in the past as well as it rhyming, which really adds emotion to the concept of the game. Also, abe's oddysee is relatively cheat free, mostly pointing out the abscence of an invincibility cheat which is present in Exoddus, in my opinion i think that the invincibility cheat in Exoddus gave the feel of running through empty levels as it reduces the challenge. I hope Abe HD remains invincibility cheat free to keep the natural feel of challenge and fear which the first game provides.
|
:
The invincibility cheat does remove the challenge from the levels however I think it should have been be an infinite fart unlock like AO with grenades with gives you an helping hand if your struggling to save mudokons in certain areas. |
But those are just added extras for fun. You can't judge a game on its cheats.
In my opinion, AO is the best because it is unique, even when compared to Exoddus. The atmosphere, the storytelling, the gameplay. Even the diologue! AO is also more challenging (although I admit, it gets fustrating when you die, and have to start from about six screens away), and I prefer having just the subtle little hints to indicate secrets. AO is a very dark game... And I love it. Its my childhood. |
I think AO's secrets are more challenging and more harder to find. I didn't like the soulstorm bottles that gave away the secrets in AE, it made it too easy. Just the slight change in ambience in AO was enough to make you think that there is something different about a particular screen. I also think AO was more original, the creature designs were fantastic until fleeches were introduced, it's not that they are difficult to survive from, it's the fact that they have plagued the natural habitats of the sacred creatures, it felt like the vaults in AE were more dedicated to the fleeches rather than the Scrabs and Paramites, so it drew a lot of attention away from the 'worshipped' creatures which gave the first game its original, dark atmosphere.

AO.
AE was far too easy, and got really tedious at times. I also wasn't too fond of changes like Abe's voice, and how it went from AO having a fairly dark and serious tone to at least one crappy joke each cutscene. Considering it takes place almost immediately after AO, the sudden change in tone didn't really sit well with me. Also I know the reasoning behind it but I can't get over how stupid mudokons look with three fingers. MO was a huge disappointment overall. At this point I just didn't like Abe any more at all. But! It did introduce some of my favourite Oddworld species and has the best black quarma ending of all the games so far. We could go on for hours about the good and the bad of MO. For me the bad outweighs the good. SW is my second favourite in the series thus far. It was nice seeing a different part of Oddworld, and the gameplay was a lot better than MO. I almost shit myself when the HD remake was announced and played it endlessly for weeks when it finally came out on psn. The main reason this isn't my favourite in the series is it didn't have the same impact on me that AO had. As a whole AO has always been my absolute most favourite game to ever be created and I can't say I would want anything about it changed. It is a literal work of art and I can play it endlessly without getting bored of it. The music is all very well done and fitting for each environment. The first couple of playthroughs were really a challenge too. The environments were gorgeous and agh I just really like it okay. As a kid I thought it was the coolest thing and it ended up becoming my main inspiration for pretty much everything. I have no idea what I'd do or where I'd be today if AO was never made. |
What he said ^.

I suspect the image I posted in that thread is of MA's shoulder tattoo, his "guardian angel".
|

|
The AO or AE versions?
|
Ive got a design of the logo but with a tribal effect on it, just 9 months till im 18 and then its on my skin forever.
|
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Oddworld Tats are awesome. I want the OWI logo on my arm but I'm too scared to actually get it done :)
|
I want that on my chest, just above one of my nipples, I don't want it in the center.
|
Getting mine done on the back of my left shoulder blade, its close to boneso its gon' hurt like fuck but it will be worth it in the end.

The sacred people of the Nekk-bi'erd.

I'd get the tribal painting of Shrykull if it didn't resemble a chicken so much.
EDIt: Back to topic, Abe's Oddysee is definitely my favourite. You can't beat the atmosphere of the stockyards, I felt like there was never really anything to rival that in Abe's Exoddus. |
Necrum nearly came close, but you're right.

I really surprised that ppl still play this old awesome game :fuzzle: http://images.wikia.com/oddworld/ima...Stockyards.png Just omg... but obviosuly exoddus has many funny movies with the glukkons xD. |
yea i no omg.
The humor of AE is part of the reason why the atmosphere was nowhere near as dark as AO. |
Probably AE. AO was amazing, but the scale of AE really did it for me. I personally think the atmosphere in AE is good, it sets itself apart from AE, making it a sort of diffrent game, giving me a new experience. Besides, I laughed like a maniac when using the minecart.

My favorite Oddworld game was Black Thorne.
|
I am torn between AE and MO. Both has interesting gameplay. I like AE for the Quiksave feature and the way you can ask multiple Muds to follow you. Gameplay on AE is much better than AO in my opinion. MO is good in the fact that you can play as Munch as well as Abe. Each of them giving different gameplay modes e.g. Munch can use his Sonar to control things, Abe can still possess (I think).
|
Oddworld Adventures because it had a great soundtrack.

Munch was just an incredibly dumbed down version of Abe and having to switch between them was one thing that made the game unbearable.[/QUOTE]
Maybe he is. I am not saying that he isn't |

Well what are you saying? Why is it you enjoy it so much? I'm just curious. ;) |
