The game doesn't seem terribly difficult if you're only completing the levels

You're in for a fucking surprise.

I was recently subject to some extreme nostalgia for this. Is it worth $18, in your opinion?

Yeah. It's also worth pirating, like I did.

Only because I lost the disc about a decade ago though.

But honestly, if you're gonna get an AoE game, go for the second one. It's definitely the best, as others have stated.

OANST 02-04-2012 06:26 AM

This doesn't really belong here, but I am really close to convincing myself to get a Kinect. The two studios that I always buy games from (Doublefine, and Twisted Pixel) have started making Kinect exclusive titles, and Doublefine's newest, Happy Action Theater, has got it's hooks in me. I can imagine having so much fun with that with Abbey.

It really isn't that hard, don't know what everyone is talking about... Though the bonus level, Land of the Livid Dead, is really fucking hard on your first try. Beware.

I've been playing Assassin's Creed: Revelations and the Syndicate demo.

I really enjoyed Syndicate and I'm most likely going to get it soon after it's released. Kinda bummed that it didn't have a singleplayer demo though.

Revelations is alright, but I'm already a bit bored with it. Unlike Brotherhood, I don't even really want to explore. I don't like the place you're in in Revelations, Rome was much more interesting. Storywise, it seems pretty good.

Multiplayer in it is loads o' fun, but not many people play it, I can only find basic deathmatch games. I want to play team deathmatch, god damnit!

It's funny, I think exactly opposite: cities in Brotherhood looked for me like those in AC2, which bored me after a short while, the ones in Revelations seem fresh (although I have not completed the game yet, who knows)

Just bought Bastion on impulse since it was on sale. Not really sure why I didn't like it before, it's really fun so far. Game is beautiful too and has good music. I've barely started it, but it has already grabbed my attention.

Also, how good is the DLC? I'll probably get it anyways since its just a dollar, but what is it comprised of?

MeechMunchie 02-04-2012 03:37 PM

It's easier to just finish the game first, then you'll understand.

Mac Sirloin 02-06-2012 10:46 AM

I bought Skyrim while looking for Space Marine. It's very fretty and has to load a lot on the PS3. It's pretty fun, I just reached RiverWood

after rampaging across the landscape like an eggscaped Orang-utan. I was attacked by skelertons about 2 minutes after wandering into what appears to be Alberta. There was also a man who threw a dog made out of zappery at me. I dispadthed they and claimedth his diary, which was altho near a skelerton. My conjuring skill was raithed somehow.

I really wish I'd bought the guide a few weeks ago when it was at the very same store for about seven dollars.

Also playing Plants vs. Zombies whenever I take a bathroom break at work. Lots of fun, updated with a whole bunch of extra puzzles and minigames. You can buy them either with the coins you earn in game, or for something like 2$ a pop in iTunes money.
Also, then Zen garden. What is it for?
And who wants to play PS3 with me?

OANST 02-06-2012 11:17 AM

I bought a Kinect. It came with The Gunstringer, which is cool because, as I've mentioned, I love Twisted Pixel. The Gunstringer is pretty damn fun, and I'm surprised by how well it actually works.

I also bought Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, and Happy Action Theater. HAC is pretty awesome as a toy, but it's not really a game, which is fine with me.

I'm still spending the majority of my time playing Iron Brigade, though. Survival mode is just an absolute ass raping by wave 15 unless you come with a damn good strategy. Best I've done so far is getting to wave 71, which took a lot of time, teamwork, and patience. I love this game.

A Zen mode in any game is usually one infinite level with gentle (if any) escalation.

Yo, I know a few guys on here (Dripik, Wil, Nexy...) MP'd Magicka for a while. I've got a few bits of DLC - last stand maps, Vietnam, Stars are Left etc. I think only the host needs the expansions, so anyone interested in that?

Also, then Zen garden. What is it for?

For annoying people with OCD and/or completionist anxiety.

Basically, after a certain point you start receiving plants as rewards in the game. You water them periodically and they give you coins. But it's mainly about collecting 'em all.

Dynamithix 02-06-2012 09:04 PM

I bought Bastion from Xbox Live marketplace as it was on sale for 600 points. Really enjoying it so far, didn't have much time to play it because I have an exam today, but I really want to play it more. The narrator is awesome.

I also started playing Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer with a few friends. Landgrabbing is really fun with lots of people, but oh boy do I hate the fucking leveling system... I'm still only level 23 even though I've played the multiplayer for countless hours. You get an extremely small amout of XP for killing someone and sometimes (has happened to me twice now) the XP until your next level resets. What the fuuuck. I don't even know what's causing that to happen.

DAZDOUG 02-07-2012 06:51 AM

League of Legends, Team Fortress 2, Minecraft

Mr. Bungle 02-07-2012 11:49 AM

Just like the rest of the internet, eh?

MeechMunchie 02-07-2012 11:57 AM

They're all good games.

Daxter King 02-07-2012 08:01 PM

Just beat Bastion, what a fucking amazing game. The ending honestly presented the hardest choice I've ever faced in a game. Can't wait to tackle the new game plus and the DLC.

Mr. Bungle 02-08-2012 07:32 AM

I should probably try Bastion, it's been getting tons of praise from all over the internet.

I got to what I thought would be the last world of Rayman Origins (clouds, whatever theyre called) only to find there are 5 more whole worlds left. Sweet. Can't get enough of this game.

Also been playing through Yoshi's Island again for fun. It's probably my favourite 2-D platformer ever, the art style and gameplay is just so amazing.

Dynamithix 02-08-2012 07:35 AM

I'm now up to the part where you get dual pistols in Bastion, this game is so beautiful. I don't get the "Who Knows Where" place though. Is it some kind of a survival mode or what?

Gameplay wise, yeah pretty much that. It also serves to fill in the backstory of the different characters. I found the the second to be the most difficult, by the time I hit the third I was pretty much unstoppable so it wasn't too bad.

MeechMunchie 02-08-2012 09:34 AM

It's a training ground/survival mode/cash grinder/exposition machine.

Basically a combat challenge with interesting backstory as a reward. You'll need it to understand and appreciate one of the endings.

The ending honestly presented the hardest choice I've ever faced in a game.

I know, right? I paced around my room for at least ten minutes, and making loud, sobbing indescision noises by the end. So what did you pick? AND DYNA SERIOUSLY DON'T READ THIS I picked Save Zulf/Evacuation.

Also, what weapon combos? I kept mine pretty much all the way through. I had:

1: Cael Hammer (Maxed Damage)
2: Breaker's Bow (Speed/Damage [The speed made it really hard to get power shots, annoyingly])
S: Mirror Shield

Though I eventually swapped that out for:

1: Duelling Pistols (Damage/Accuracy)
2: Cael Hammer (Maxed Damage)
S: Mirror Shield (Hey, it's useful...)

I can't be arsed to compare spirits.

I picked the same choices that you did, the part where you carry Zulf out stands out to me as one of the best marriages of gameplay and story in a videogame.

I had the Cael Hammer and Mirrror Shield(you can swap this?!) for the entire game. I kept the Breaker's Bow for a good chunk of the game, switched to the rifle and eventually the mortar at the end though.

Did you not try clicking/selecting/whatevering it in the Armory menu?! You mean you went through the entire game just not understanding what those Secret Skills you were finding were for?

Oh wait.

I meant the Mirror Shield Secret Skill. You know, the one where you spin and everything dies?

But that scene. Oh God, that scene. I was practically in tears. The music, the animation, it felt like I'd just stepped into a movie. The way they give you control until the very end... You genuinely think you're going to die, and yet you do it anyway, because you just feel you have to. So I stumbled, I flinched at the darts piercing my defenseless frame... Then they stop... They part... That guy gets struck down by his captain... They displayed an unbeliveable amount of character through that basic AI. I saved one of their kind, when they themselves considered him past forgiveness. I felt like more of a hero than I ever have before in a game. And I probably did cry.

Oh, and Evacuation is definitely the "Good" ending, don't worry.

Dynamithix 02-08-2012 11:28 AM

Fuck you guys, I'm tempted to read that stuff.

MeechMunchie 02-08-2012 11:33 AM

Better go play the game, take your mind off them. Read 'em when you're done.

Picked up Skyrim for £15.60 (Thanks Havoc!). Should be fairly bugless by now, so I'll get to see what all the fuss is about ;)

Crashpunk 02-08-2012 01:09 PM

Been playing though RE4 Wii Edition recently with my GF :3.
It been waay too long since I last played it and it's better then I remembered it. Best part of the game has got to be the gameplay, the Wii controls are perfect.

Also the Merchant is a legend.

I misunderstood you, I thought you meant just the regular shield ability. I had the Summon Squirt through out the game.

Mac Sirloin 02-08-2012 04:42 PM

I've been playing a lot of Plants vs. Zombies, and trying to avoid using the same tactics every single level. This is foolish the exact second you acquire Corn. With Corn, nothing can stop me.

Strike Witch 02-08-2012 08:01 PM

Playing Fortune Summoners.

It's cute as a button and surprisingly tough.

First task is collect keys and go exit. Sounds too easy? Well game goes totally 3D maze in later levels. :fuzconf: http://www.oddworldforums.net/images...icon10_odd.gif

Just beat Bastion. My god, what a game. I also chose the Save Zulf ending, but after that I chose the restoration one.

And yeah, the part where you carry Zulf out of there was definitely one of the best scenes I've seen in a video game. Last I felt the same way was when I beat Arkham City. This game is a masterpiece in my opinion, I wish there would be a sequel.

What did you think of it? What do you think it means? Try New Game+ if you want a hint.

Dynamithix 02-09-2012 10:16 AM

To be honest, I really didn't even know what to choose so I just went with that one in the end. From what I got from the ending, was that they went back to a better time where there isn't calamity. Or something like that. And yeah, I started NG+ already.

The reason I picked Evacuation was partly that Rucks was clearly trying to escape from his guilt over his past mistakes, but mainly that... well, it's a saved state. No-one remembers. You see in the credits that everyone makes the same choices again. There's just going to be another Calamity, over and over again, and it's probably been going on for hundreds of loops by the time we play it (It might be that the devs wanted each player's experience of the game to be equally valid, so each time someone plays the game, it's another Restoration loop).

In case you think this is just fan theory, remember the start of NG+. "... I-I'll see you in the next o-one..."

Jordan 02-10-2012 01:24 PM

Cave Story+. Such an awesome little game, probably one of the most fun I've ever played. Plus, it has funky music.

Dynamithix 02-11-2012 11:29 AM

My cousins were visiting us today and we (four of us) played a shitload of Rayman Origins. I've never had so much fun playing a video game in my whole life.

Crashpunk 02-11-2012 02:14 PM

I love hearing about Video games that become so much better when you play them with Family or Friends.

Smash Bros. Brawl is a game I keep playing when my mates come over. We NEVER get bored of it.

Dynamithix 02-14-2012 02:43 AM

The Mass Effect 3 demo.

Meh, it was good but I'm not that hyped up for it so I thought it was a bit boring to be honest.

JennyGenesis 02-14-2012 02:51 AM

Flatout Ultimate Carnage, I feel stupid for trading this game in years ago :/ I can't even remember the reason why I traded it in either.
