I tried the new sign idea but its to far to dangerous with the Lava.

Gwan-Thwei 07-20-2011 06:32 PM

Mm, too bad. That would have been a nice addition. Is there any kind of oddworld texture pack that will make it more oddworldian?

Phylum 07-20-2011 09:11 PM

It's not an Oddworld server, it's the Oddworld Forum's server. Naturally the big building projects are of common interests.

It would be good to make some slig skins and film some stuff in there when it's finished, though.

Clannfear 07-21-2011 05:07 AM

Great idea guys but I think that this Rupture Farms is too small. It should be bigger.

Get back to us when you've finished building it.

Quite an impressive video there, DH.

Yeah, but considering I'm relying on stone donations or what I mine myself to build this thing rather than cheats, and that it's taken me over a month to get as far as I have done, it's large enough.

Ideally it should be 3 or 4 times the size it is now since Minecraft blocks are so huge, but I can't build upwards any further and there are structures immediately to the east and the north that I won't be building over.

However, AO's RF is simply so huge because of gameplay purposes - Has anyone noticed that all those catwalks, drones and boom machines don't seem to serve an actual purpose? I'll just fit into the Minecraft version whatever I can and include the most important details. As I keep saying, so long as it says "Abe's Oddysee" at the end of the construct, I'll be happy.

Gwan-Thwei 07-21-2011 06:31 PM

At the end, will you post a video tour of the structure?

DarkHoodness 07-21-2011 06:46 PM

Did you not catch the latest one I made? I plan to keep making them every 2 weeks or so to show progress (though won't cover things that haven't changed since previous videos) - And of course there'll be a grand tour at the end of the build, too.

Gwan-Thwei 07-22-2011 09:23 AM

No, I didn't. But it was cool to see how far you have come. I know I could never build anything as complex as that...
It's also nice to see that despite the disadvantages, you still work with creepers.

DarkHoodness 07-25-2011 03:42 AM

Bah.

Making a small round object in a world made from cubes = Impossible. I spent ages working with various materials and this is the best I can come up with for barrels.

Suppose they don't look too terrible in-situ or when stacked, though. Geif upside-down stairs, plx!

Destro 07-25-2011 10:54 AM

Wish i participated in the project. But i didn't have minecraft at the time. right now i do and i wish to participate in a minecraft project that involves all oddworldian fans out there:)

DarkHoodness 07-27-2011 05:50 PM

Since people have difficulty finding them for some reason, even though there aren't many doors to chose from yet and this tube is in exactly the same place as the old stairs:

Yeah, I used it as an experiment to see what'd happen if I applied AO sounds directly to a Minecraft video. It didn't work.

There are no stairs in AO - You walk through a door and magically appear through another door elsewhere on the screen. There is no way to do that in Minecraft so tubes with spiral staircases will have to do.

Gwan-Thwei 07-27-2011 07:13 PM

Question, would the Better Than Wolves mod help any, or are you just trying to make rupture farms in all original minecraft?

...Can you even put mods in multiplayer?

DarkHoodness 07-27-2011 07:19 PM

As I've said before, using mods would take away some of the challenge. Most people on the server would rather it was kept as original and unmodded. It's easier that way.

Crashpunk 07-28-2011 03:22 AM

Yep. Un-touched, Un-modded Minecraft is the way I like it. I don't even like texture packs

DarkHoodness 07-28-2011 11:48 AM

EDIT: There was a hosting blunder - The original RF on the OWF multiplayer server is no more.

I've decided to re-create it on SSP using INV edit, and upload a map for people to look at, maybe play together in SMP.

Just let me recover from the shock of the setback though. It's a big job.

Carnix 07-28-2011 11:54 AM

And yet another FC project bites the dust.

Sorry, pal. Really thought this one was gonna make it..

DarkHoodness 07-28-2011 12:01 PM

I'm strong-willed. To be honest, half the time spent building Rupture Farms was mining resources. I still have the plans, many screenshots, and a video of the place...

Yeah, I'll eventually re-build and change it into an adventure map for multiplayer. That way it'll be available to more people and at least it'll have a future. But this is still a massive setback.

Crashpunk 07-28-2011 12:20 PM

Aww man this is just great. RF was looking to be a masterpiece.

goddamn it.

DarkHoodness 07-28-2011 01:03 PM

It'll rise again from the ashes. Most of the work was designing the damned thing - I still have the plans. And the hardest part (the interior) was yet to be designed... Building that frame was pretty tedious though.

STM 07-28-2011 01:07 PM

Must be a real fucking pain man. I hope you get over this nasty arse set back.

Gwan-Thwei 07-28-2011 02:19 PM

Aww, Dude, I'm so sorry. That took you forever to make, how terrible!

Havoc 07-28-2011 04:52 PM

I'm really sorry, dude! RF was a truly awesome project! I'm sure you can quickly get back to where you were with some 'cheating' :p

Crashpunk 08-05-2011 12:28 PM

Well now the server is back up, Any progress with RF Darkhood?

DarkHoodness 08-05-2011 12:41 PM

Yeah I've been slowly working on it. I finished the loading bay and railway line to it yesterday. I won't bother with doing the inside until I get my hands on the new materials (such as iron bars) that 1.8 will give. But it gives me time to plan.

Crashpunk 08-05-2011 02:45 PM

Awesome. Something told me you weren't working it on it anymore due to the sever issues but I'm glad your still working on it ^_^

DarkHoodness 08-09-2011 06:55 AM

Just an update: Today I've spent the afternoon planning and working on this project after taking it easy for a week while I've gathered motivation and ideas - I'm building the boardroom.

Finishing this project will still take a long time but it's far from dead - I now at least have an idea of how to continue. Stay tuned.

Havoc 08-09-2011 03:24 PM

And damn does that boardroom look awesome.

DarkHoodness 08-09-2011 04:55 PM

Ta - Glad people like it. :) Shame I can't add too much detail to it though. I'll add some deco soonish.

Here's a small preview for those who don't have access to the server, I've also done the area where Abe waxes the floor and looks at advertising boards for RFs products.

Crashpunk 08-10-2011 02:55 AM

Now we need everyone on the server to have glukkon skins and one Slig skin and stand in them places

Splat 08-10-2011 04:03 AM

And one mudokon standing in the doorway!

Can you do the projector somehow? Something dangling from the ceiling with a block of glowstone behind a block of glass?

MeechMunchie 08-10-2011 04:18 AM

Would active Redstone wires work better as the strip lights?

DarkHoodness 08-10-2011 04:58 AM

@Splat: It's a WIP, I haven't done all the furnishings and decorations yet, will play around with stuff. Not sure about glowstone since I really dislike it - The texture is ugly. :S Only good thing about it is that it glows.

@MeechMunchie: Redstone wire can't be made to go vertically.

DarkHoodness 08-20-2011 07:15 PM

Just letting people know that the project is still alive and kicking, I work on it a little bit every day, either through stockpiling resources or adding small details. For example there are now more chimneys out the front, the roof is finished (I may modify it later though), and I've drawn up some plans for the ground floor which I won't post here yet 'cause they're subject to change.

Dripik and Splat have been giving me lots more stone too, so many thanks to them. :)

As I said before I'll be picking up the pace after 1.8 once I find out what new materials I'll have to work with - I'll try not to spend too much longer working on this though, after all it'd suck if I finished this several months down the line long after people have lost interest in Minecraft. If I do ever cancel this thing for whatever reason, I'll say so here - But I plan to see this through to the end.

enchilado 08-20-2011 07:54 PM

I'll never lose interest in Minecraft. It just runs too slowly on my computer to be enjoyable.

I'll try to get on some time to look at RF, though, because it's an amazing project. I hope you do finish it.

Crashpunk 08-21-2011 10:01 AM

I've been playing with the YogBox on Single player. thats why i haven't been on the server in ages.

I'll give you some stone DH. I've got some left.

Clannfear 08-22-2011 12:23 PM

Okay, I understand that height of "cube-map" is too small for bigger buildings but - some people can respond to me only like kids? (I don't talk about DH). Also, "Glukkon place - with slig" looks really nice (in Minecraft terms ;-).

DarkHoodness 08-29-2011 01:47 PM

As I said I haven't been working too hard on this lately, but there's enough progress to make a vid about it:

Scraby 08-29-2011 03:58 PM

it looks really really nice, especially the inside looks just like a real factory. great job.

Splat 08-30-2011 08:02 AM

DH, I was passing through Rupture Farms yesterday and the 'enter' door on the train line (the piston one) stuck open.

(Also, video is cool).
